MT: Seifert, Young Join SB Committee

Posted by Taylor Price on April 11, 2013 – 9:23 AM

The Bay Area’s quest to host Super Bowl L or LI received a boost this week with the two key former 49ers joining the region’s Super Bowl bid committee.

According to the SF Gate, Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young and two-time Super Bowl winning coach George Seifert, have joined the committee that features many other well-known Bay Area personalities (Condoleeza Rice, Charles Schwab, Thomas Keller and others).

NFL owners will decide the host cities for both Super Bowls at the annual owner meetings on May 21. If the Bay Area wins, the game will be played at the new Santa Clara Stadium which is set to open in 2014.

The Bay Area is up against the Miami region to host Super Bowl L in 2016. It would be the 50th anniversary of the biggest game in professional sports. The runner-up from that vote will compete with Houston to host Super Bowl LI in 2017. Bay Area mayors, Jamie Matthews of Santa Clara and Ed Lee of San Francisco, recently held a press conference on March 7 to discuss the Super Bowl bid.

Morning Tailgate: Jan. 28

Posted by Alex Espinoza on January 28, 2013 – 12:18 PM

NEW ORLEANS – The 49ers touched down in New Orleans on Sunday and greeted the national media in the Big Easy before getting preparations underway for Super Bowl XLVII. Jim Harbaugh and a few of the team’s biggest leaders addressed reporters on Sunday night, discussing the franchise’s sixth Super Bowl run.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com broke down the trip for the 49ers and compared it to the two trips to Youngstown, Ohio, that the team has taken in the regular season since Harbaugh took over as coach.

“But the 49ers’ week-long stay at the site of Super Bowl XLVII is bringing back memories of the road trips the club has taken the past two years during the regular season,” Maiocco wrote. “Yes, there will be a lot more media and hype surrounding the 49ers’ game Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, but it is also a time for the team to focus on football — just as they’ve done in Youngstown on week-long trips.”

The rest of today’s Morning Tailgate features more 49ers arrival news and more.

Morning Tailgate: Sept. 20

Posted by Taylor Price on September 20, 2012 – 10:19 AM

There’s no denying Jim Harbaugh’s Midas touch with the San Francisco 49ers.

At a 20-game benchmark, including postseason action, Harbaugh is 16-4 in his first stint as a head coach in the National Football League.

Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle recently spoke with several of the Bay Area’s top football minds for their thoughts on Harbaugh’s impressive start to his NFL head coaching career.

“George Seifert, ever loyal to his childhood team, watches the 49ers with heightened interest these days,” Kroichick wrote. “He sees Jim Harbaugh roam the sideline, intensity splayed across his face, and Seifert cannot help but flash back to the time his 49ers played Harbaugh and the Colts in Indianapolis.”

Kroichick also relayed the thoughts of Hall of Fame coach John Madden, who called Harbaugh’s 2011 season one of the best rookie coaching jobs in NFL history.
