San Francisco’s running back reps behind Frank Gore will be a key to Sunday’s game in St. Louis. Whether Brandon Jacobs or LaMichael James becomes the featured No. 2 runner behind Gore remains to be seen.
Jim Harbaugh said the reps against the Rams would be shared “among the other backs.”
With the loss of Kendall Hunter and Kyle Williams to season-ending injuries last week in New Orleans, the 49ers coach will have to find ways of showcasing other players on the roster.
Even so, Harbaugh admitted the injured players will be tough to replace.

The 49ers made an 11th-hour addition to their defensive backfield on Monday by announcing the signing of cornerback Darcel McBath, just three days from the start of training camp.
But McBath doesn’t come to the 49ers as a complete stranger, as the former Texas Tech star played college ball with receiver Michael Crabtree and learned from defensive backs coach Ed Donatell with the Denver Broncos for two seasons. The 2009 second-round selection can play both cornerback and safety, saying he’s grateful for the opportunity to join the 49ers.
“I’ve been training hard, eating right and doing everything I’m supposed to do to stay healthy,” McBath said. “Now it’s just taking care of my body and playing hard.”

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed CB Darcel McBath to a one-year contract.
McBath (6-1, 198) was originally a second round draft pick by the Denver Broncos in the 2009 NFL Draft. In that span, he has played in 21 games (1 starts), tallying 28 tackles, two interceptions, and four passes defensed. McBath was released by the Broncos on 9/4/11 and later signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars on 12/12/11. The Jaguars released him this offseason on 4/23/12.
