On the Phone with Carroll and Hasselbeck

Posted by Sam Good on September 8, 2010 – 4:28 PM

The 49ers might not recognize their opponents when they travel to Seattle for the season opener on Sunday.

Yes Seattle is a division rival, and yes the teams have faced each other twice a year since 2002, but with a new head coach and 27 new players on their squad, the Seahawks have a totally different look and feel to them this season.

The same can’t be said for the 49ers, at least that’s what three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Hasselbeck said in his conference call with Bay Area reporters on Wednesday.

Back in OTAs, Mike Singletary said the final players to make his 53-man roster would be the ones who contribute the most on special teams.

Posted by Sam Good on August 26, 2010 – 6:02 PM

Several prominent members of the 49ers are yet to see any action this preseason, but head coach Mike Singletary said that will change when his team faces the Oakland Raiders on Saturday night.

Posted by Sam Good on August 26, 2010 – 11:54 AM

Although Brian Westbrook has moved to the Bay Area, he hasn’t forgotten about his hometown of Washington DC.

From the Field: Aug. 25 PM Practice

Posted by Taylor Price on August 25, 2010 – 4:34 PM

Once again the 49ers are back on the field for another practice session at team headquarters in Santa Clara. I wonder if the competitiveness from the morning “ownership period” will carry over into the afternoon.

It’s a lot cooler this now than it was on Tuesday. The players are in shells, and several veterans are getting a practice courtesy, which means they won’t participate.

Individual drills are taking place on both fields at the moment. Check back for more updates as practice unfolds.

From the Field: Aug. 20 Practice

Posted by Taylor Price on August 20, 2010 – 3:21 PM

Mike Singletary did his players a solid, canceling Friday’s morning practice. But the team is back to work for a pad-less afternoon practice.

I’ll pass along practice highlights and observations as we go along. Currently the offense and defense are going over substitution procedures – the ones they’ll use this Sunday in the preseason home opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

49ers Get BAWSI

Posted by Sam Good on August 20, 2010 – 2:06 PM

The 49ers had the morning off on Friday, but the practice fields were still full of football.

The 49ers invited 50 girls from the Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative (BAWSI, pronounced “bossy”) to their practice facility for the opportunity to participate in the Gatorade Jr. Training Camp drills on the practice fields.

Over the years, the 49ers have worked with BAWSI on several programs teach young women the importance of staying active and to help ensure they have opportunities to play sports.
