49ers Claim Tolzien; Sign Practice Squad

The San Francisco 49ers have claimed QB Scott Tolzien off waivers from the San Diego Chargers. To make room for Tolzien on the roster, the team waived LB Keaton Kristick.

The 49ers also signed the following seven players to the practice squad: C Chase Beeler, T Derek Hall, WR Joe Hastings, CB Cory Nelms, RB Xavier Omon, TE Konrad Reuland and LB Monte Simmons.

49ers Sign QB Josh McCown

The 49ers signed QB Josh McCown to a one-year deal.

McCown (6-4, 213) was originally drafted in the third round (81st overall) by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2002 NFL Draft. He has played in 47 games (31 starts), completing 610 of 1,058 pass attempts for 6,584 yards, 35 touchdowns and 40 interceptions, while adding 127 carries for 569 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed TE Nate Lawrie to a one-year deal.

Lawrie (6-6, 255) was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round (181^st overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft. He has played in 26 games (five starts), registering four receptions for 43 yards. Lawrie has played for Tampa Bay (2004-05), the New Orleans Saints (2005-06) and the Cincinnati Bengals (2007-08), while also spending time with the Philadelphia Eagles (2004, 2010) and Baltimore Ravens (2008).

49ers Sign Safety Dashon Goldson

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed S Dashon Goldson to a one-year deal.

Goldson (6-2, 200) enters his fifth NFL season after being selected in the fourth round (126th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft by the 49ers. He has played in 51 games (34 starts), registering 254 tackles, five interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), three sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 15 passes defensed.

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed TE Chris Blohm to a three-year deal.

Blohm (6-4, 262) played collegiately at Yale, where he appeared in 30 games (17 starts), and registered 27 receptions for 270 yards with two touchdowns. In 2010, he was the recipient of the Greg Dubinetz Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the Yale lineman who best exemplifies the spirit of Greg Dubinetz.

49ers Sign WR Braylon Edwards

The San Francisco 49ers  announced they have signed WR Braylon Edwards to a one-year deal.

A Pro Bowl selection in 2007, Edwards (6-3, 214) has played in 90 games (84 starts), registering 326 receptions for 5,142 yards and 39 touchdowns. He entered the league as the third overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. After being traded by the Browns to the New York Jets in October of 2009, he went on to play in 28 games (26 starts) and tallied 88 receptions for 1,445 yards and 11 touchdowns.
