MT: Lattimore Inspired By Gore
Posted by on May 17, 2013 – 11:36 AM![]()
They’ve just started working together on the 49ers practice fields, but it seems like a perfect mentoring relationship between Frank Gore and Marcus Lattimore.
San Francisco’s four-time Pro Bowl running back and fourth-round pick are hitting it off just fine at 49ers offseason workouts. Although Lattimore is taking a calculated approach in rehabbing his well-documented knee injury, the South Carolina running back has been picking up constant information from Gore, San Francisco’s all-time leading rusher.
“He’s a very detailed guy,” Lattimore said via Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. “You can see why he’s so successful.”
Lattimore and the 49ers are off on Friday. The rookie running back is with a few teammates at the NFL’s Rookie Premiere event in Los Angeles.
Gore and the veterans return to work on Monday. The veteran running back did make glowing statements about the incoming rookie to 49ers.com, too.

MT: Quinton Patton’s Work Ethic
Posted by on May 3, 2013 – 10:26 AM![]()
The 49ers were excited to see Quinton Patton’s name available when it came time to make the No. 128 overall selection in the 2013 NFL Draft.
The Louisiana Tech wideout had 24 touchdowns in two seasons, both of which he was given first-team All-WAC honors. San Francisco knew they were getting a competitive player in the 6-foot, 202-pound wideout, but they were blown away when Patton tried to visit team headquarters earlier this week.
“He’s just a good, solid, all-around receiver,” general manager Trent Baalke said of Patton after the draft.
Jim Harbaugh liked Patton’s eagerness to get to work with the 49ers, but it turns out, Patton’s made a habit of logging extra hours on the job.
Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com and Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee both caught up with Patton’s college coach, Sonny Dykes, to hear more about his hard-working ways.

Posted by on April 19, 2013 – 3:06 PM
The San Francisco 49ers announced uniform numbers for several newcomers to the 2013 roster.
Most notably, Anquan Boldin will wear No. 81, which was previously worn by tight end Garrett Celek. No. 81 has been Boldin’s uniform for all 10 of his seasons in the NFL, seven with the Arizona Cardinals and the last three years with the Baltimore Ravens.
Boldin’s new jersey is available now on shop49ers.com.
Celek will change to No. 88 this season. He’s not the only member of the 49ers wearing a new number in 2013. However, new cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha has not officially selected a uniform number for his 11th season in the league and first with the 49ers.
Here are the new uniform numbers:

Football in the Bay Area has been on the rise in recent years. High school, college and professional teams have enjoyed the type of success that earns national notoriety.
With Stanford University, Jim Harbaugh’s former school, earning back-to-back BCS Bowl invitations, the Cardinal have become the leaders in Bay Area collegiate football. Coach David Shaw has continued Harbaugh’s work at Stanford by bringing in academically and athletically gifted athletes. The Cardinal finished as the nation’s No. 7 team according to AP Top 25 results.
Another Bay Area school, San Jose State, also enjoyed impressive success in 2012. The Spartans finished the year 11-2 and No. 21 in the AP’s Top 25 poll.

Draft Chat with Mel Kiper Jr.
Posted by on April 11, 2013 – 12:56 PM![]()
ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. discussed his predictions for the 2013 NFL Draft in a Wednesday conference call.
The long-time draft analyst mentioned several players profiled in 49ers.com’s “49 in 49” draft series as potential first-round targets for San Francisco.
The first name mentioned from Kiper was a standout Pac-12 defensive lineman.
“Datone Jones, a defensive end from UCLA, that would be a little bit of a curve ball,” Kiper explained. “He’s a had a great Senior Bowl week. He had a heck of a year for Jim Mora. He’s ideally suited for what they do.”
Kiper continued on his possible first-round targets for San Francisco by highlighting a player 49ers.com featured on Wednesday.
“As a safety, Jonathan Cyprien from Florida International, good football player,” Kiper said. “He’d be a great pick at 34 or 31. Matt Elam, a safety at Florida, would be in that mix as well.”
The final possibility Kiper discussed was a player the 49ers coaches have worked with that also fits a position of need with the departure of tight end Delanie Walker.
“At tight end,” Kiper began, “do they look at Zach Ertz from Stanford? Do they wait until late second round and look at either Ertz, if he’s still there, or Gavin Escobar from San Diego State or Dion Sims from Michigan State?”
Kiper summed up his thoughts on what the 49ers should do with their first two picks, No. 31 and No. 34 overall.
“I would think at defensive end, safety, and tight end, if you can get those three positions filled with those picks at 31, 34 and 61, it would be a nice draft for Trent Baalke and company. And hope that A.J. Jenkins can come back year two and give you something at wide receiver.”

Every year impact players are drafted outside of the nation’s top football conferences and they end up carving out highly successful careers in professional football. The 2013 NFL Draft figures to be no different.
