MT: 2013 Draft Week Arrives

Posted by Taylor Price on April 22, 2013 – 9:07 AM

In a matter of days the San Francisco 49ers will have 13 opportunities to add to the roster in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Starting Thursday, the three-day draft will see General Manager Trent Baalke and his personnel staff find the best prospects for San Francisco.

There’s plenty of speculation going on as to who the 49ers will take with the No. 31 overall pick and if the team will actually make 13 selections in the draft. Baalke said last week that he’s treating every selection with the utmost importance and that there’s potential to move up and move back in the draft via trades.

For now, it’s a waiting game and an exciting one at that.

Over the weekend we finished our “49 in 49” series. You can check out all 49 profiles on this year’s intriguing prospects. Maybe one of them will be a 49ers draft pick just like LaMichael James was in 2012.

If you’re attending the 49ers Draft Bash , here’s all the information you’ll need for the event.

I would love to see the 49ers be aggressive and trade up in the draft for an impact player, be it a defensive lineman or a safety. If Star Lotulelei slips down into the teens I would hope that Baalke would pull the trigger and trade up to get him.

Or at the very least I would like to see us trade a few of our picks for better picks in future drafts. It’s never too early to start stockpiling for the future!

Agree. My desire is to move up and land Lotulelei or Richardson. Id rather take a shot at great than build a lot of good.
Between Woodson and three starting caliber safeties in the draft, we can take a shot if its there.

to me why waste picks to move up? take cyprein or williams (bama or n.car.)d-line guys next take hopkins wr from clemson than with second pick in 2nd rd take mathieu…trading up to get richardson looks tempting but is he that good? i think this draft is all even no one sticks out….i say stay at 31 and trade out a 3rd or 4th rd pick for next year…

since r corners have been address, and i strongly believe thats one of the pot holes that we need fill and they did so,its hard to name , names during the duration of the draft on which way were going, just like the boldin trade i did’nt see the coming, but it was the most excellent move ever as i may say so, now my opinion here is , will be drafting safety at ist pick. either we trade up or what the franchise would do with those 13 picks, there a lot space to move around with those incentives, will just have to way and see, all we have to do now is ..IN HARBAUGHT WE TRUST…

well, the server seems to be working, hope its ready to put in some work on thursday night,,while I too like the idea of moving up,it depends on who they are moving up for, because in my opinion, the talent we can add with our first 3 picks if we stand pat, is far more appealing to me than any 1 player we could move up for,,and I really dont see anyone worthy of losing those top 3 picks for. dont get me wrong there is some talent to be had in this draft especially on the defensive side, but this draft is loaded all the way through the 4th round with defensive players,,,,,IN HARBAUGH WE TRUST IN BAALKE WE BELIEVE TO 49ER FOOTBALL WE ARE “THE FAITHFUL”

we need safety yes we also need to go after some tall CB’s the league is full of tall recievers who get the ball just thrown up to em as they did to us over the last 2 years wich did hamper our SB winning …..yes a really good D lineman for some p.a.s.s. rush and we can lock this thing up ………the kaeper will be on fire this year ….and we need a future RB to compliment the QB style with a good fast RB that the D needs to focus on the QB then can… go wild ….hey that is trade marked so no stealing ……..GO NINERS ………DOMINATE ……..

wow still a football site that will not let you say p@ss …..

We need a DT and an OLB that can get after the quarterback. That was the difference in the last Super Bowl. We are also going to need a corner that can go one on one with the best WR in the NFL. I would go CB, DT, OLB and in that order, which I base upon projected available talent when we pick.

I don’t see trading up as a good idea because there isn’t much difference in talent, minus a few players, from projected first rounders to 2nd and 3rd round prospects. I hope the 49ers stand pat in the first 3 rounds. I could see moving up from the 4th round on, but not until then.

wait dont we already have 2 of the best outside linbackers in the league ? yes i think we do

  17. By ace on Apr 22, 2013 | Reply

moving up in the first round is almost never a good idea i think the lucky # is like 24, where more pro bowlers and hall of famers came from

i believe they are inside linbackers

i hope we move culliver to free safety, move up in the draft for richardson

(heir apparent for j smith) and pick up the best corner in the second round. then te, strong safety, back up oline and wr. that would set us up for many more years of dominance

    any one see ace’s mom

  22. By CaseyBeggs on Apr 23, 2013 | Reply

I could definitely see staying with our current picks and not trading up, but if there is a guy like Lotulelei or Richardson available in the middle of the 1st round, I would love to see us pull the trigger on that to trade up. If not, then stand pat and take the best DL and Safety available. Either way we are going to be looking good after this draft I think.

really my mom ? thats soooooo funny

  24. By mfkram64 on Apr 23, 2013 | Reply

i agree 49er defense….if they want a d-line guy floyd, richardson or lotulelei r rated top 3 but to me they arn’t much better than williams from bama and williams from n.carolina which will be there at 31 and don’t have to waste draft picks to trade up….as far as cb’s do they want to trade up for one? i think they r set get one in later rds…. safety there is on guy vaccaro…is he worth trading up for? can get cyprein or reid at 31….i say stay pat also and use some picks in later rds. for trades for picks next year
