MT: Colin Kaepernick Goes Country

Posted by Taylor Price on April 8, 2013 – 10:22 AM

One of them is the Entertainer of the Year, the other is a fast-rising superstar.

It’s hard not to argue that both are worthy of the other’s designation, but that can be resolved at a later date. For now, Colin Kaepernick and Luke Bryan spent time backstage at the 2013 American Country Music Awards in Las Vegas.

Bryan won the Entertainer of the Year award; Kaepernick presented the Top Vocal Duo honor, given to Thompson Square.

The 49ers quarterback posted photos on his social media accounts, including a photo with Bryan, Sunday night’s big winner.

“A huge congratulations to @LukeBryanonline for winning entertainer of the year!” Kaepernick wrote on his Twitter account. “Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy!”

San Francisco’s starting quarterback also made complimentary comments about another standout person, former 49ers quarterback Alex Smith. Kaepernick told the Las Vegas Sun that he spoke with Smith over the phone after the veteran signal-caller was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs.

“He was a great teammate, a great mentor, and he’ll do great in Kansas City,” Kaepernick said of the former No. 1 overall draft pick in 2005.

More NFL headlines can be found in today’s Morning Tailgate.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com offered a pre-draft tracker filled with reported prospect visits.

CSNBayArea.com also shared the report of former 49ers kicker David Akers signing with the Detroit Lions.

49ers.com wrapped up ACC Week with profiles on Florida State defensive end Tank Carradine and Clemson running back Andre Ellington.

    POLO

shut the hell up.. it’s not easy for players to workout and focus on football everyday.. he deserves timeout and nice vacation for what he did.

He knows about football more than you do.

Why don’t you worry about your job..that’s if you have one. SMH

What’s the deal? I heard he was working out every day. He makes a few comments and goes out for some fun & he is being blasted for that? Kaep if you have the energy to do both do it. I’m a 9er fan I’m not worried. You have game and from what your teammates say you work hard too. So do what you do.

Some of you 49er fans just don’t know how well you have it. Kaepernick has been working hard for over two months now. He started working and getting ready for next season a week after the superbowl. Some of the best players in the NFL did not get to work immediately, Tom Brady went on Vacation, so did Russell Wilson. You guys have a quarterback who believes that vacation can wait because it is not important and that hard work and preparation is important. When the kid spends one weekend just having a little fun you guys get angry and say he isn’t focusing on what is important. No athlete spends the whole offseason just focusing on football not even the best. Kaepernick seems to be a great kid who knows that he must work hard to achieve his goals and his fans as well as the fans of the team should realize that and should appreciate having a quarterback with such a mentality. Some of you are angry he attended the ACM’s when the reality is you could have a quarterback who believed that it is ok to golf and relax the whole offseason or one who acts like gronkowski. Believe me some fans would kill to have players with Kaepernick’s work ethic.

He can only learn the quarterback position over time. You already like what you see, and he’s not going to progress to elite status in one off-season no matter how hard he trains. Let him have his weekend.

    never change, kaep

I’ve been thinking about something for awhile and wanted to hear thoughts from others on the subject. When Tebow gets cut, what if we brought him in to be Delanie’s potential replacement? He obviously would have to be commited to a position change, but there’s no denying he’s a great athlete. I would think his no nonsense approach to staying fit and being a blue collar team player would fit Harbaugh’s culture and I would think there would be some creative ways to use him as a premier H Back. Very much like Delanie or Chris Cooley. You have to think that he’s capable of 40 catches with a handful of touchdowns. And he’d be very cheap. Just curious to some thoughts on the subject.

I AM IN NO WAY ENDORSING HIM AS A QB. To me, that’s not even an option.

hmrhead1…we had this question a couple of weeks ago and for one forget tebow….it’s a circus with him….the niners don’t need to bring in tebow cuz all the media crab comes with him and they don’t need it PERIOD! i for one think they should bring on cooley a very productive te…but as far as tebow STAY AWAY!

  24. By Hmrhead1 on Apr 9, 2013 | Reply

Im with you on preventing distractions, but I wonder if the circus goes away if he’s not playing QB. The kid is a phenomenal athlete and outstanding teammate. Seems like Harbaugh’s kind of guy.

while I am with you on teboe being a great athlete, and the move to say H-back is a great idea, I dont think tebow’s not playing qb would mane an even BIGGER media circus with all the qeustions about how he feels now that he’s NOT going to be an nfl qb,,,great idea but the 3 ring circus that comes with him his,in my opinion, wayyyyy too much,,,IN HARBAUGH WE TRUST
