Morning Tailgate: Team Needs

Posted by Taylor Price on April 1, 2013 – 10:17 AM

Who will be the newest members of the San Francisco 49ers to run out of the tunnel at Candlestick Park? The question will be answered in 24 days when the three-day NFL Draft begins.

The 49ers have 14 selections in the upcoming draft and can add depth to the roster in addition to finding long-term replacements for outgoing free agents like Dashon Goldson and Delanie Walker.

Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee examined potential additions to the NFC’s defending champions.

The 2013 draft looms large for the franchise as it looks to reload for another Super Bowl run. Barrows points to a number of incoming rookies who can step in and help San Francisco in 2013.

“The 49ers won’t be able to hold onto everyone in coming years, especially with a potential mega deal for Colin Kaepernick on the horizon,” Barrows wrote. “That’s why having 14 draft picks is such a boon to the 49ers right now and so crucial to sustaining success. It gives them the ability to plan for the future.”

Barrows noted kicker, center, wide receiver, defensive end, quarterback, safety and tight end as potential draft targets for the 49ers.

NFL.com’s Bracketology series features two 49ers signature plays remaining in the fourth round of voting.

Pro Football Weekly offered San Francisco’s team needs for 2013 and noted free agency moves for  every NFC club.

Chris Burke of SI.com listed his top 40 prospects for the upcoming draft.

Yahoo! Sports’ Shutdown Corner Blog discussed this year’s offensive line class with respected NFL analyst Greg Cosell.

49ers.com finished Big Ten week with a profile on Ohio State defensive end John Simon.

And last but not least, make sure to purchase some of Jim Harbaugh’s new clothing line.

oh boy…the seachicken is ugrading there roster not for the S.B. but to dominate the nfc west, alone and wants badly to defeat the niners, which in my opinion is not gonna happen, why??? cuz’ there getting players fr. f.a. which is gonna last only in about a year or so….or in other words there not really that smart in picking personels, there cap space is really minimal now…in other words again there only good in paper…thats about it…nothing more , nothing less…unlike r own franchise is just playing cool r now, and were building roster for the longest time possible and we will be a contender for the longest duration of time in the nfl….25 more days to draft, we will be picking players that will fit in the 49er system, u can count on that…..why?/ cuz’ ‘ IN HARBAUGH WE TRUST AND IN BAALKE WE BELIEVE”

its gonna be interesting to see scott t. & mCcoy compete for the qb. backup…i think the niners is also picking one qb.in the draft…not really sure who? but just a gut feeling again….

colt mccoy hmm well he was cheap so whatever, i would like to see 2 qbs on the roster instead of 3 when the season starts, who agrees disagrees and why do we need 3 qbs on roster someone plz explain the logic of wasting a roster spot on a 3rd string qb an extra defender would actually get some snaps where as a 3rd sting qb does nothing all year

  8. By ace on Apr 1, 2013 | Reply

u can have a 3rd string qb on the practice squad

i think its pretty safe to say if ur starting qb has a season ending injury ur team will not be winning the superbowl, obviously we used 2 last year and scott t could have been on the practice squad giving us another roster spot basiclly,or have i lost my mind

bow53 i agree seahags signed guys too 1 year and 2 years thats carroll they will fall flat on their face…he will be gone in 2 years….

Tolzien is in has last year of his deal before becoming a RFA. With Harbaugh being a QB himself, you know he’ll want some insurance. Although, McCoy could be enough of a project, and Kaep still has to prepare for his first season as a starter. I bet he’ll go after one on draft day 3.
