Morning Tailgate: Harbaugh Visits SJSU

Posted by Alex Espinoza on March 15, 2013 – 11:59 AM

In the fall of 2007, Ron Caragher took over the head coaching position at the University of San Diego, replacing one Jim Harbaugh. On Thursday, the two coaches reunited at San Jose State, as the 49ers coach visited Caragher’s team during a spring practice session. Jimmy Durkin the Bay Area News Group was on hand as Harbaugh caught up with Caragher and some NFL Draft hopefuls. SJSU Athletics also shared a photo gallery of the afternoon visit.

“Harbaugh, sporting his classic look of khakis, black 49ers crew neck sweatshirt and black 49ers cap, watched the last hour of practice,” Durkin wrote. “He chatted with Spartans coach Ron Caragher, Harbaugh’s successor at the University of San Diego, and with NFL prospects and former SJSU players David Quessenberry and Ryan Otten.”

Stay up to date with all of the free agent action with 49ers.com’s Free Agency Tracker. The rest of today’s Morning Tailgate also examines the free-agent addition of LB Dan Skuta.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee passed along comments from Skuta’s introductory conference call.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com wrote that Skuta has experience on defense, offense and special teams.

Mike Sando of ESPN.com looked at the special teams units of San Francisco and Arizona.

Barrows reported on the possibility of Nnamdi Asomugha and Charles Woodson joining the 49ers.

Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle looked at the defensive backs who have visited team headquarters.

Maiocco and Barrows reported that Ricky Jean Francois has signed a free agent deal with the Indianapolis Colts.

NaVorro Bowman shared pictures from his charitable trip to Africa.

Can we afford Woodson? what a great addition to the secondary he would make . . . an on-field coach, mentor, teacher and leader for the likes of Brown, Culliver & Cox . . . the jury is still out on Carlos Rogers . . . i would like to see just once one of our CB hit someone with authority and be aggressive covering and going for the ball ala the Rams or Chickens Corners . . . this can be coached by example on the field – I believe !!! Still standing by Baalke for his insight in bringing in the best affordable talent available . .Yea 49ers – in-season and off-season, be ready !!! .

looking at draft if they want a stud d-line guy they r going to have to give up a lot of picks to move up…is it worth it? to get Richardson or Williams they will have to move up to top 15 in draft…to me if they stay at 31 get best dt/cb or safety..i like Mathieu…get young cb…than safety elam…and third rd go get lattimore he is going to be a solid rb in nfl…can learn under gore who had same type of injury coming out of colleage…we all see how he made out…

way to go harbaugh and baalke, they knew they were going to lose goldson and they waited for the smoke to clear from the start of free agency and found a veteran FS that is not too old and will be playing his a,s,s off to win the starting position and the rookies we draft for the FS position will feed off that and it will accel the learning curve for the rookies,,,,# IN HARBAUGH WE TRUST

they knew they didnt need to sign one of these aging veterans,,sure it would help but the money just didnt make sense,,signing dahl is smart, cheap, and if it works out and the guy wins the job its another one of those signings of a guy with something to prove and he can lay on special teams,,those are the kind of guys harbaugh loves,,, IN BAALKE WE BELIEVE

looking back being a top team the last 2 years…only losing a few players last year and now a minimal about of guys this year to fa isn’t bad at all…..and retaining the oc/dc for their third year with team is huge…look at the top teams in league they lost top guys…just can’t say it enough baalke and harbaugh r a great tandem to be reckeoned with for years to come…..

I wonder who there looking at when it comes to the draft ,and am so glade that our front 5 guys are going to be together for along time ,a lot of sports media say that Marcus Lattimore would be a good pick up for use and he can study behind frank ,we have enough picks to see if it works .

i dont like 2 many free agents, i mean we need some, but build thru the draft, i like the one we have already boldin. suka good choice, the safety from the rams hmm idk dorsey i like 2, we’ll see, a kicker ?

that’s what it’s about ace..getting guys with chips on their shoulders…got talent just ned the right team to show it….bolden, dorsey and deil r soild guys….I still think baalke has 1 more fa he will surprise us with…don’t count out a trade for revis….it’s a long shot but we will see….now they r reporting nnamdi didn’t sign with saints…just visiting so they still might sign him….

mfkram64…I think it would be nice if the 9ers were able to get…Josh Cribbs from Cleveland! That would give us a speed guy at WR, plus the kick-off/punt returner we need to get!!

Unfortunately…sounds like he is close to a deal with Arizona!

love to land him…can change a game in a heart beat…what’s that worth? to me i’d pay him….plus use him as a wr..don’t really know his wr talent never had a qb to get him the ball…look at what jones did alll year for ravens same type of player special team guy/wr he showed how much he was worth…td against denver and 2 in super bowl…
