Morning Tailgate: Aldon Smith Tries MMA

Posted by Alex Espinoza on March 1, 2013 – 11:20 AM

Aldon Smith may have put together a historic start to his career, but the 23-year-old is pushing himself in a new direction this offseason. Smith, who has set an NFL record with 33.5 sacks through the first two seasons of his career, started training in a local Mixed Martial Arts gym to improve his athleticism.

Comcast Sports Bay Area shared a video of Smith working out with UFC Heavyweight Daniel Cormier. “It’s definitely a good way to stay in physical shape,” Smith said. “In football you use your hands and feet so much, they definitely do it a lot in this sport.

The rest of today’s Morning Tailgate features the latest mock draft predictions for the 49ers and more.

If the NFL declared the 02/03/2013 Super Bowl game a MISTrial and mandated that Super Bowl-47 be played OVER again (like in 2 or 3 weeks from now), yes,, the Ravens would most definitely WIN it again, but THIS time by a score of perhaps 42-17 (over the 49ers). The game would NOT be close. Furthermore, the SF 49ers will NEVER win their 6th franchise Super Bowl! That team is now DESIGNED to “choke” in the end. They choked in January 2012 (NFC Championship game vs. the Giants) they choked in Super Bowl-47, and they will CONTINUE to choke, every year from now on (and sooner or later, the 49ers will be BACK to being a bottom of the barrell,, 2-14 team). Fact of the matter is, the 49ers can not even beat the Dallas Cowboys in regular season (as the Cowboys have BEATen the 49ers,, the last 3 times the 2 teams have played each other).

Niner Nation… ignore the ignorance of “stephen” who clearly knows nothing about the sport… and is probably jus an ignorant person in every way… Those who watched the game and saw how one-sided the game was called know the truth… People like him who have distain for the Niners are blinded… learn the rules…. then rewatch the game the whole game… and see how much the SB was handed to the Ravens… “stephen” you giving true fans a terrible name!!

    Niner Nation!!!

WTF? T.O.? Where did that come from?

Looks like Stephen is made because his team finally won the Super Bowl and everyone knows that they were not the better team and would have collapsed were it not for a few bad calls and they are losing a number of key players this off season and will be lucky to even make the playoffs for years to come. Good luck with Flacco and his 120 million dollars. Most over rated QB ever.

with moss gone and ginn to follow….done to crabs, manningham, williams two guys coming off bad injury and hall, jenkins….not a wr core that looks to put fear into many defenses….remember seahags and rams def. r phsycial…and their db’s r tough…the nines need a big time wr….i said wallace before but mihght be to much but whose left? he can open up the offense and plays in a tough def. division…ravens, bengals and browns so he knows tough db’s..he avg’s 17 yards a catch over last 4 years..him with crabs opens up the field for vernon….just a thought..i’m more worried about this offense right now….if they don’t sign walker they r going to need a t/e…he was a big part this past year…the little things that u need to win…they start losing some pieces they will need to replace….

I think Mike Devito would be a good free agent hookup from the Jets.

I’m Sorry. Mike Devito is a DT who plays the 3-4 for the Jets.

Let Gholdoson go, trade our first and and 3rd along wtih rodgers to trade up and get milliner. sign either woodson or reed to a 2yr deal. this will free up money to sign crabtree to a long term deal, as crabtree will go for 1400+yrds this year with kaep at QB

  20. By mando on Mar 5, 2013 | Reply

so 1st of all ginn has the speed of a trackstar and dudes overlook him cuz he never really gets the reps kaep could turn him into a downfield threat and him and jenkins are in atl training together to get that chemistry u guys act like we njeed calvin johnson like wrs we’ll be fine with what we got these guys are all still young except for manningham but anyway to let goldson go would be a HUGE MISTAKE he is our ballhawk he’s proven himself he deserves that money we need to have faith niner empire that lombardi trophy belongs back here in the city baby!! This would do wonders for his foot work. His arm work would get much better also. I hope he learns to get rid of those long sleeves the O linemen have been holding onto!
