Morning Tailgate: Combine Wrap-Up

Posted by Alex Espinoza on February 27, 2013 – 8:04 AM

The whirlwind week in Indianapolis known as the NFL Scouting Combine has wrapped up. Now all 32 teams are gearing up for Pro Days around the country and their final rounds of Draft day preparation. Before we move on to the next part of the NFL offseason, take a look back at the week that was in Indy.

Bucky Brooks of NFL.com listed SMU defensive lineman Margus Hunt as the Combine’s biggest winner. “Hunt put himself squarely on the radar of scouts after turning in sensational marks in the 40-yard dash (4.60 seconds), vertical jump (34.5 inches), broad jump (10-foot-1) and bench press (38 reps),” Brooks wrote. “He also displayed outstanding movement skills, agility and body control in positional drills, leading some scouts to believe he can develop into an immediate-impact player as a five-technique (a defensive end in a 3-4).”

The rest of today’s Morning Tailgate looks at other studs and duds from the combine and more.

Peter Schrager of FOXSports.com looked back at some of his combine predictions and how they panned out.

Doug Farrar of Yahoo Sports! wrote that Tyrann Mathieu boosted his stock at the Combine.

NFL.com compiled all of the Combine’s facts and figures into the 2013 Combine Tracker.

Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle shared Colin Kaepernick’s Q&A session from the 2011 Combine.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com examined the Draft options for the 49ers at safety.

Steve Corkran of the Bay Area News Group passed along possible Draft targets for the 49ers with their No. 31 overall pick.

There’s no one quite like Justin Smith.

with the trading of alex to K.C. we now have the ammo to move up anywhere in the 1st round and draft who ever we want. there is also a report out there saying the 49ers are now actively pursuing a trade with the jets for revis.,,,IN HARBAUGH WE TRUST,,I would like to see us stand pat and draft the best available players that fill our NEEDS with our first 3 picks and then let baalke and harbaugh work the draft day trade magic,,,IN HARBAUGH WE TRUST

for sure we need a few things more …like a dline push and better coverage down field ..we got ripped apart by new england and vikings and giants and dang ravens …..just a few more right pieces and bingo bango …..no jokeing around next time for sure …that SB was a joke and can not believe we lost to the ravens again with all we had ……..better not happen again since we will be scheduled to play the ravens in the first 2 weeks of course as ell as patriots and saints and giants and prob cincinnati

Nobody needs to worry about the 49ers and what they will pick….Our guys have shown they know what they are doing.

AND. hey! 11years…you’re gonna need to change your handle. You don’t have Alex to pick on any more.

that trade (alex) indicates that this franchise has a working staff of a brilliant minds, not only we have control on picks during draft day and i’m pretty much sure they’ll pick the right personel that will blend & fit in the 49er system…

We need to bolster CB, DL and WRs and grab a few kickers to compete and we good to go. And as fast as Ginn is, I just feel we need a rediculous, fearless KR/WR to give him competition. I just feel like Ginn should give us more as a WR too, especially with his speed. Common man!
