I said it when parys haralson got hurt, and im saying it again, aldon smith is a great SITUATIONAL type of player. he has shown that he cant set an edge against the run, but he can rush the hell out of the qb. too many times I saw TE's take care of him one on one at the line of acrimmage. parys haralson could play DE in a base 4-3, he is a big dude, aldon is more of a "tweener" the 49ers need a guy who can play ROLB in our base 3-4 but could also play DE in a 4-3 base.,,maybe aldon's shoulder injury was worse than we were led to believe, but I saw with my own two eyes what happend to aldons production when we lost justin smith, the tape dont lie and while aldon is one of the best pa$$ rushers in the league, he cant set the edge againt the runs and stretch plays that were constantly run to his side of the field, he also needs more work in drop back coverages. the NEEDS for the 49ers are evident to everyone, including our coaching staf,,and you know what 49er faithful,,I aint worried about a thing, and you know why im not worried about a thing?,,because,,IN HARBAUGH WE TRUST!!!

I agree with you 100% hmrhead,,lack of p,a,s,s, rush had a direct impact on our coverage units,,we NEED strength and depth on our D-line, and with trent working his magic once again, we aquire the chiefs snd rounder in this years draft. that means we can pick 3 possibly 4 times in the first 50 picks,,THAT IS AWESOME,,,with our first 4 picks we should be able to IMMEDIATELY get help on the d-line thereby helping the coverage units,,,IN HARBAUGH WE TRUST

It cracks me up when you disagree with someone's opinion on this site and that somehow makes you incapable of having any knowledge of the game.

I'll say it again. Prior to the NE game, our secondary played well. We had beaten Rodgers and Brees and shut out Brady for an entire half. From the 2nd half of that NE game thru the SB, our ability to pressure the QB significantly dropped and our secondary gave up more big plays. Now, we can look at that as being in line with Justin's departure or simply chalk it up as mere coincidence. Personally, i believe that Justin's injury allowed other teams to not require a double team on JS and therefore being able to double Aldon. In my opinion, that lack of pa$$ rush is what caused the issues in the secondary and the game tape that i watched reflects my opinion.

So unless the CB is first name Revis, last name Island, i truly believe we should be targeting front four personnel who display qb pressure skills. Fix this and we "fix" our secondary.
