Morning Tailgate: Feb. 8
Posted by on February 8, 2013 – 10:39 AM
Jim Harbaugh traded in his trademark black sweater for a red one on Thursday as he hit the Pebble Beach Golf Links in the first round of the AT&T Pro-AM. Along with partner Jason Day, Harbaugh finished tied for second with a score of 9-under 61. Harbaugh and Day are playing Friday’s second round at Spyglass Hill with Giants pitcher Matt Cain and Matt Bettencourt and you can follow with live scoring from PGATour.com.
Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle recapped Harbaugh’s initial round at Pebble Beach. “Harbaugh arrived at the practice range Thursday morning … well, needing to practice. He hadn’t swung a golf club in nearly a full year, since last year’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am,” Kroichick wrote. “Then he went out and helped his professional partner, Jason Day, post a team score of 9-under-par. That planted Harbaugh and Day in the thick of early contention, tied for third among the 156 pro-am tandems in the tournament.”
The rest of Today’s Morning Tailgate looks back to Harbaugh’s day on the links, Colin Kaepernick’s playoff success and more.
Mark Purdy of the Bay Area News Group passed along Harbaugh’s comments on the Super Bowl season of 2012.
PGATour.com featured a great photo of Bill Murray’s exquisite facial hair in Thursday’s celebrity Pro-Am recap.
Mike Sando of ESPN.com analyzed Kaepernick’s success on third downs in the postseason.
The San Francisco Chronicle offered 50 of the top photos of the 2012 49ers season.
49ers.com’s coverage included a story and photo gallery of Harbaugh’s first round, an end of the season blog from Donte Whitner and the announcement of six players signed to reserve/future contracts.

3 p a s s e s to crab in a row and we lose god damit, why ? i still cant beleive we lost that game, how do have we 1st and goal with 2 mins and not get 5 freaking yards to win the game ?

i would like to throw this out there , i know that the game is history, but before that game i had a bad nightmare that r corners is gunna cost as the biggest game this season.i been posting it, concern and bothered by it and it came through i know its to early to say this, that we needed to get a house hold name for r cb.but thats the only thing right now that i see, thats missing part in puzzle, somebody we trust in that area, all in all this franchise is going places where some other teams are not, just a concern…

bow 53 I agree. We need a 6ft2 strong, speedy and talented cornerback to deal with the likes of a highleaping Anquan Boldin. Anquan is very strong and plays with anger and talent a dangerous combination.
We should try to get Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson and Mike Wallace from the steelers.
We don’t know Kyle Williams status, Mario Manningham or Randy Moss so we should try to get the 2 free agents plus a guy like Jordy Nelson or Jordy Nelson himself. Jordy Nelson’s sister would love to have Kaeperneck and Jim Harbaugh.

alex is treade bait so we can move up and get a good corner or a good mauler NT to free us up for some sacks and pressureing the QB
By ben hernandez on Feb 8, 2013 | Reply
We need corners that are as big as the one’s that the Seahawks have .Big and Physical. The Raven’s secondary played the Niners the same way the Seahawks play us every year. They hold on every play and no flag is thrown. The flag is thrown on us if we play the same way..Look at the SuperBowl officiating!!

yeah lots of bogus penalties and er safty was called on us and was uncalled for all season and the superbowl officiateing was horrible as well. We should have handled business anyways maybe next year they will get the plays in faster and or kaeper will be more comfy and just call his own when they dont get it in fast enough.
By Hmrhead1 on Feb 9, 2013 | Reply
We dont need corners. Our DBs are fine. Boldin made some nice plays. That happens. Culliver, Brown, and Rogers all played well in the SB. Aside from Boldin’s great play against Rogers, the majority of big plays against our secondary in that game were the result of no pressure on the QB. Even the double move on Culliver was a 12yd in route before he went vertical. Culliver is supposed to jump that in route. Thats a 4 second route. The QB should have been in his back. Unless we’re adding Revis, we are fine with our current group. Now, we do need a replacement for Justin. Our entire pa$$ rush disappeared once he got hurt. One man’s departure should not have had as dramatic an impact on our defense as his did. Thats a big hole.

“blahblahblah says the game was decided on the first poss.”
Way to twist my words. Try SEVEN possessions. Good quarterbacks with good offensive lines and good runningbacks don’t fail to drive their team to a touchdown before the eighth drive. The Ravens exposed Colin Kaepernick, and nothing more needs to be said about the matter.

u know what’s funny flacco 5 poss. 21 points kap 6 poss 6 point….we know that stat for first half how bout 2nd half? u don’t want to post stats for 2nd half cuz they favor kap..u don’t win argument he out played flacco big time..u will go as far as to say ravens d played soft…such bullshi$…see how stupid u sound..when it favors cap it’s not cuz he played good it’s cuz the defense sucked… with your thinking if alex excuted better in giants game williams never would have fumbled and the niners would have won so with your thinking alex lost that game right? o no cuz it was alex… to u everything that happens in the game is cuz kap. didn’t excute..it’s all his fault RIGHT?.

Ha! Lets look at your “exposed” comment above since you a stat w h o r e ..shall we ; )
By dave g. on Feb 10, 2013 | Reply
Lets look at how the other Ravens opponents did in the playoff run (shall we):
Andrew Luck-288 yards (0TD, 1INT) and they only scored 9 points!
Peyton Manning – 290 yards (3TD, 2INT) – 1 in serious choking style!
Tom Brady – 320 yards (1TD, 2INT) – scored only 13 points!
Oh yeah and we gained more net yards against the Ravens D then any of those teams in the playoffs!
“EXPOSED’!? HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
By dave g. on Feb 10, 2013 | Reply
Colin Kaepernick- 302 yards (2 TD – one rushed for 15 yds, 1 INT) and rushed for 62 yards with one 100 yard game to Crabtree and Davis.

And we netted over 100 yards more than the Ravens! Exposed? The only thing exposed BLAHBLAHBLAH is your lack of footbal knowledge and your incredible emotional bias! STFU already cuz we all see you as a joke except for Temper11 who thinks just cuz you use big words and paste meaningless stats that you must know something!
By dave g. on Feb 10, 2013 | Reply
What makes Kap numbers even more impressive is Kap threw more yards than Flacco with Flacco throwing prayers that somehow got caught and Kap throwing some on the money that got dropped.
OPEN YOUR EYES BLAHBLAH and release the hate to an opposing QB from the Seahawks or Rams! If not just go find another team cuz Kap is our guy!

Anyone that watched the game can see how the 49ers did before the power outage:
Kaepernick: 9/14, 173 yards, 1 Int, 3 sacks
All 49ers rushing: 16 attempts, 56 yards
6 points. A lot of empty yardage on a splash play here and there.
After the outage:
Kaepernick: 7/14, 134 yards, 1 TD
All 49ers rushing: 13 attempts, 126 yards, 2 TD’s
Another 3 points.
That was an offense that capitalized on the momentum-stealing blackout. That was a defense playing not to give up the big play. Nevermind also that the Ravens offensive juggernaut absolutely seized after the blackout:
Flacco: 8/13, 88 yards
All Ravens rushing: 20 attempts, 39 yards
Compare that to their first half totals. The 49ers’ defense came up big in the second half in many games this year, but that result throws the curve. The blackout explains this completely.
Awful arrogant of you to believe that I never looked at the numbers and didn’t have an explanation for it. Kaepernick was gifted momentum he didn’t do anything to earn. And after using it well, in four plays from the opponent’s 7, he couldn’t seal the deal. He is not clutch. Were it not for the Ravens’ defense getting the cramps 3 hours after the game started (and stopped and started and stopped again), the 49ers may never have gotten the Crabtree TD reception, and wouldn’t have gotten the Kaepernick misdirection TD run that has epitomized an offense that depends on paper-rock-scissors victories.
I’m sure there will be another dumb response to this basically to the effect of “the blackout affected both teams equally”, but anyone who has played the sport will tell you how precious momentum is.

Kap did a tremendous job. Our secondary put us in a hole that required the greatest comeback in SB history to overcome. The deefense held its ground in the second half. Akers was Akers again. Two holding and/or interference calls at the end prevented us from winning our 6th. Either way, we were in a position to win the game at the final gun. Bad play calling by Roman/Harbaugh at the end, too. With Kap’s and Frank’s legs, we should’ve at least tried one running play. Inexcusable.

No one complained about playcalling when Smith was quarterbacking. No one blamed officiating for a 49ers loss since the last time the 49ers played the Ravens in 2011. Tired of the Kaepologists. They all blamed the coach when Kaepernick lateralled a ball over Ginn’s head against the Rams. But no one will blame Nolan or Singletary because Alex Smith’s talent was wasted by them for six years. Memories are about one game long.
