Morning Tailgate: Jan. 28
Posted by on January 28, 2013 – 12:18 PM
NEW ORLEANS – The 49ers touched down in New Orleans on Sunday and greeted the national media in the Big Easy before getting preparations underway for Super Bowl XLVII. Jim Harbaugh and a few of the team’s biggest leaders addressed reporters on Sunday night, discussing the franchise’s sixth Super Bowl run.
Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com broke down the trip for the 49ers and compared it to the two trips to Youngstown, Ohio, that the team has taken in the regular season since Harbaugh took over as coach.
“But the 49ers’ week-long stay at the site of Super Bowl XLVII is bringing back memories of the road trips the club has taken the past two years during the regular season,” Maiocco wrote. “Yes, there will be a lot more media and hype surrounding the 49ers’ game Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, but it is also a time for the team to focus on football — just as they’ve done in Youngstown on week-long trips.”
The rest of today’s Morning Tailgate features more 49ers arrival news and more.
Matt Barrows of Sacramento Bee also wrote that the 49ers are treating this trip like the Youngstown business trip.
Ray Ratto of CSNBayArea.com discussed the rich franchise history of the 49ers.
Mark Purdy of the Bay Area News Group examined the 49ers upon their arrival to the Big Easy.
Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group wrote that Harbaugh is happy with his team’s focus.
Joe Cortez of the Modesto Bee shared comments from Colin Kaepernick’s family.
Inman spoke to Hall of Famer Joe Montana, who said he expects the 49ers to win.
Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle examined Harbaugh’s relationship with his father Jack.
NFL.com shared a video of Jack Harbaugh discussing the impact of Muhammad Ali on the Harbaugh family.
Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group profiled Mike Iupati and LaMichael James.
Maiocco chronicled Frank Gore’s journey through life to the Super Bowl.
Joe Davidson of the Sacramento Bee spoke to former 49ers front office exec John McVay.
Maiocco shared comments from former 49ers coach George Seifert.
49ers.com’s coverage included a look at the team’s arrival, a social media recap, a photo gallery and press passes from Kaepernick, Justin Smith, Joe Staley, Dashon Goldson and Patrick Willis and offensive and defensive player transcripts.

I don’t want to speak too soon … so I won’t predict the Niners winning the next 5 superbowl. I had better play things safe and just predict them winning the next 3.

So proud of our 49ers. They have a rich tradition and this team will add to it.
Did you guys read today about JH, when he was a rookie with the BEARS, was one of the few who questioned the rule about no women sports reporters in the locker room…in fact he actually escorted one so she could interview some of the players. She says she will be forever grateful for his encouragement and how he stood up for her. She will be rooting for the 49ers at the Super Bowl.
I can hardly wait for Sunday ! Gooooooooooo NINERS ! ! !

I have sat through every single 49ERS game since they won their last Superbowl, And I mean every game start to finish. It was hard to watch the 49ERS get beaten over and over and over again but i knew the 49ERS would be back and boy are they. I am sooooooo happy now that the 49ERS are back. GO 49ERS GO.

Niners will win big because of Dashon and Donte will get the ball back for the “Capped Crusader”
We will contain suggs the most dangerous force on the Ravens. Our 6ft 8 young fast guys on the offensive line will double team suggs and make him a non entidy.!!!!! Game will be a close game at first till Jim figures out a few things plus or def and offensive coordinators.
Expect one touchdown by Anthony Dixon, 2 by Gore, Walker one, Kaeperneck 2, 3 Touch downs by Vernon Davis, oNe by Dashon, One by King Crab, One by Bruce Miller and one by Walker. One by LaMichael James
77 to 35 Niners just too many weapons
Go Niners Buzz Clifford from Santa barbara Joe Flacco iut early with injury.
Tory Smith one td, Ankquan 2 TD’s , Rice 2 TD’s and one by other tail back #30/??????

l think the ravens will double crabs and davis at times…that means moss will have single coverage…love to see him light it up…like to see james and walker make the most of it when their number is called..on defense aldon is going to have to have a big day..it’s time…get flacco on his back…i like to see g-ro expose lewis…go with 4 wr’s maybe 5 that leaves kap. room to move…..getting pumped!!

we get to flake-co A.S.A.P. we shut him down, the guys not much of a running qb.then we have a huge chance we can pull this off, to be honest ,r corners is much of a concern to me, they been giving alot of chunks of yardage in the last couple of games, ravens running attack, our front seven will take care of that, CK7 and co.will be holding there own, g-ro is gonna open up the playbook wide open here, look for randy moss to shine here……..

I expect the offense will go right at Ray Lewis…He will have to cover Vernon and Delaney at times, so they should be able to tear him up. There is a reason he is retiring…can’t keep up anymore.
9ers will give Lewis their own kind of divine intervention!!!
Side note…Look for the Eagles to make a push for Ed Donatell as the DC!!

One more win. It’s starting to hit me now and I love every minute of it. It just doesn’t get any better after 19yrs it’s here people. Let’s do this……..

i agree bow53..corners need to jam torrey smith at line..bolden is strong wr but slow…thta’s why to me they need to pressure flacco all day..make him unsettled…if he has time to set up he can kill u..but get to him and he throws ducks up in the air..that’s why it’s time for the smith bros..to have a record day…the ravens front line is playing good so niners need to use their speed on defense..i like aldeon in this game to have 3 to 5 sacks…he plays big on the big stage…
By mfkram64 on Jan 29, 2013 | Reply
i also agree they should go right at lewis all day..make him cover or run at him..do some hurry up…i want his tongue dragging on the ground make him look old….the one thing they can’t do is let him make a big play cuz that team feeds off him…sunday can’t come fast enough..i get jacked up talking about it! lets go niner nation!!! rally up and get that positve vibe going!!!!
