Fact: Kaepernick can throw the ball with more velocity than Alex Smith.
Fact: Kaepernick can run faster than Alex Smith.
Unproven Theory: Kaepernick makes the 49ers’ offense more diverse than it could be under the command of Smith.
Fiction: Kaepernick makes the offense better. The statistics plainly show that the offense has been less productive under Kaepernick.

Let’s not confuse raw physical ability with overall talent at the quarterback position. Smith is a smarter quarterback, and has had his share of game-winning touchdown rushes. Ball velocity is only an advantage if you can find your target, and Kaepernick has had trouble with that when the pressure gets to him. Kaepernick’s yards per rush average has steadily declined as defenses have adjusted to him. Kaepernick’s actual production is steadily declining because defenses are acquiring the knowledge needed to gameplan against him at a faster rate than Kaepernick is acquiring ability to be a better quarterback.

You would have been more accurate by saying, ‘Kaepernick gives us a better chance to win against clueless coordinators and offenses that can’t maintain possession.’

The 49ers went to Green Bay, and Smith’s offense outscored fellow 2005 draftee Aaron Rodgers’.
The 49ers hosted Seattle, and Smith’s offense outscored rookie Russell Wilson’s.
The 49ers went to New Orleans, where Drew Brees threw as many touchdown completions to 49ers as Colin Kaepernick did. (Kaepernick’s offense was outscored by Brees’.)
The 49ers went to New England, where the Patriots turned the ball over 4 times, and where the average starting field position on drives for the 49ers was at their own 47. Brady’s average drive in the game was almost two plays longer than Kaepernick’s, exhausting the defense.
The 49ers went to Seattle, where Kaepernick can’t sustain drives, and where a tired 49ers defense gives up 35 points. The 49ers’ offense doesn’t account for a touchdown until it doesn’t matter anymore.

Did you watch these games? When has Kaepernick won a game the way Smith was forced to win games? Kaepernick is winless against teams with a winning record where the 49ers’ defense didn’t produce at least two turnovers. Smith’s record in such games this year is 4-1 (Packers, Lions, Giants, Seahawks, Cardinals). So contrary to the prevailing view that Smith is carried by the defense, Smith has usually been a key factor in 49ers wins. Show me a game where Kaepernick carried the team the way Smith had to this year. There are none.

Charge the tie against St. Louis to whomever you want. It doesn’t illegitimize Smith’s record, and it doesn’t excuse Kaepernick’s.

But since it is Kaepernick’s superiors who decide whether he plays or not, that does mean it is ultimately Harbaugh’s fault.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the 49ers have tumbled several ranks from the NFL Power Polls since Smith was leading the team. No highly-regarded professional thinks the 49ers are a better team today with Kaepernick at the helm. He is not a starting caliber quarterback yet. Bring him back when he can read pro-style progressions.

But it was nice to see your retorts reduced to a sarcastic one line statement void of any legitimate argument in behalf of Kaepernick.
