Morning Tailgate: Dec. 20
Posted by on December 20, 2012 – 9:48 AM
The San Francisco 49ers have several Pro Bowl-worthy candidates on this year’s roster. The 2013 All-Star teams for both the NFC and AFC will be announced on Dec. 26, but five members of this year’s club can lay claim to leading the NFC fan-vote at their respective positions.
The vote leaders, released Thursday morning by the NFL, were as follows: DT Justin Smith (257,020), LB Patrick Willis (226,791), G Mike Iupati (177,817), K David Akers (140,847) and ST C.J. Spillman (89,797).
Smith, in particular, will be a much-discussed player this week. The 49ers defensive co-captain is nursing an elbow injury and has not practiced yet this week. Smith might not play against Seattle as discussed by Eric Branch of The San Francisco Chronicle.
Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News looked at San Francisco’s task of shutting down Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.
Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee examined how the 49ers will deal with Seattle’s well-known crowd noise.
Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com looked at the mid-week injury reports for both teams.
Kyle Bonagura of CBSSports.com doesn’t think Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll will be exchanging Christmas cards this year.
49ers.com looked at Colin Kaepernick’s preparation for Seattle, the conference calls of Carroll and Wilson, plus an update on the Sunday’s night Spanish simulcast of Sunday Night Football.

Hey guys, if you DVR’d the replay of last Sunday nights game, on NFL network, just before the start of the third qtr, there’s a great moment where Randy Moss is calming Vernon Davis, who seems to be anxious about not having the ball thrown his way. Check it out, it shows the good influence Moss has on his teamates.

I think Akers stays up all night voting for himself that’s why he is too tired to make a 30 yard field goal.

By Hermie on Dec 20, 2012 | Reply
Another bad call or should I say one Non-Call late in the game had Brady drop “straight back” and he got pressured and just threw the ball away…no intentional grounding was called on that which would have put them back inside about the 5 yard line.
By BullChip on Dec 20, 2012 | Reply
Hey 11years, Jennings plays WR not TE……. I say it’s time to get a clue.
Hey Hermie, you sqeaked out a win and y’all still are crying about non-calls. Pathetic. Go Seahawks.

@BullChip, dont you mean the patriots squeeked out a loss?,,loser, the only reason the SEAKAWKS are in playoff contention is because of a blown call,,,PATHETIC,,,IN HARBAUGH WE TRUST,,,49ER DEFENSE #1 2012

Yo @bullbotch,
Still won regardless… speaking of which, your team BARELY beat them by what a whole 1 point in YOUR OWN backyard. We beat them in NE in DEC(which is when they play there best football) via TD. Don’t mention SQUEEKED out a win without taking a look in the mirror.. you’re just making it to easy.

Can I just say…. I HATE J SMITH BEING INJURED!!!!! I dont see him playing until the playoffs. I bet the injury is worse than they are disclosing. The D line just doesnt get the same push without him. He provides A Smith the openings he needs to get to the QB. May need to move him around the line a bit more this game. Im confident with the offense aginst Seattles D. Im more concerned with Seattles Offense. They always have a tough time stopping Lynch which will open up a lot of things for Wilson…..This one may depend on our offense to come up big in the scoring department. Want that bye week fellas!!!!! I need the stress free week myself!!!!! Oh and one more thing…again…..AKERS NEEDS TO BE CUT BEFORE HE COSTS US POINTS OR WORSE…THE GAME….IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!!! He has hit the wall in the confidence dept and I dont buy the “hes workin through something” thing. Sorry Coach.

Kap has me in the Christmas spirit:
Oh Kaepernick, oh Kaepernick
Your arm is strong and your legs are quick
When you throw the ball like a frozen rope
or take it yourself, you give us hope
Oh Kaepernick, oh Kaepernick
Randy Moss’ dislocated finger proves your throws are sick
A Super Bowl win would sure be great
Just like when you beat Boise State
Oh Kaepernick, oh Kaepernick
Just don’t fumble it or throw a pick
By ace on Dec 20, 2012 | Reply
and lets not forget the sack fumble that aldon had in first qtr called incomplete, the replay clrearly showed aldon hit him while his arm was going back, the hit cuased his body and arm to go foward thats a fumble
By ace on Dec 20, 2012 | Reply
and the walker fumble the second he touches the ball he’s hit so usually they call that incomplete i think

its the friday before the ” BATTLE IN SEATTLE “,,,last weeks performance and victory in new england was a statement game for the new CK7 led offense,,,this week its time for the defense to show everyone just who the most dominant defensive unit in the league is. I predict lynch doesnt get more than 85 total yards, wilson throws 2 late picks, and we keep seattle out of the end zone allowing them only 4 field goals,,,final score,,24-12,,,gore gets 100 total yrds and 1 td and CK7 throws for 2,,,akers with a late field goal,,,,sounds good to me….
IN HARBAUGH WE TRUST !!!!!!MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE,,,YES YOU TOO 11YEARS WITH ALEX,,,MERRY XMAS TO ALL
