James Earns Week 15 Rookie Honor

Posted by Taylor Price on December 18, 2012 – 9:51 AM

San Francisco 49ers second-round draft pick LaMichael James has been active for two games in his young NFL career.

The second performance last week in New England, however, earned the 49ers running back a Week 15 Pepsi MAX NFL Rookie of the Week nomination along with quarterbacks Kirk Cousins, Ryan Tannehill, Russell Wilson and kicker Blair Wilson.

James’ 62-yard kickoff return in San Francisco’s 41-34 win over the Patriots set up a critical 38-yard Michael Crabtree to give the 49ers fourth-quarter breathing room. The reserve running back also accounted for 133 yards on four kickoff returns in a late-season win for the 49ers that kept the team atop the NFC West. James added 31 rushing yards on eight carries, giving him 164 total yards in a big win for San Francisco.

Fans can vote for James at NFL.com/rookies all week until Noon PT this Friday.

After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Pepsi MAX NFL Rookie of the Year honors.  Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com/rookies throughout the month of January.  The Pepsi MAX NFL Rookie of the Year will be announced at the second annual “NFL Honors” awards show in New Orleans on Saturday, February 2, the night before Super Bowl XLVII.

A closer look at the finalists:

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins completed 26 of 37 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns in the Redskins’ 38-21 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

San Francisco 49ers RB-KR LaMichael James accounted for 133 yards on four kick-returns with a long of 62 yards which helped setup the eventual go ahead score as the 49ers beat the New England Patriots 41-34.

Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill completed 22 of 28 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns in the Dolphins’ 24-3 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Minnesota Vikings K Blair Walsh was a perfect five for five on field goals, three of which were from 50-plus yards which helped the Vikings defeat the St. Louis Rams 36-22.

Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson completed 14 of 23 passes for 205 yards and one score as well as picking up 92 yards and three touchdowns on the ground in the Seahawks’ 50-17 win over the Buffalo Bills.

How much better and more confident do we all feel when LaMichael is back there on the return than when Gynn or Kyle Williams is? I for one feel SOOOOOOO much better in knowing that not only can this guy take it to the house on every touch but that he is far less likely to do a dumb “oooops im gonna get it no im not let it just touch me and give it back to the other team” move.

La Michael James has great vision, moves and cutbacks.

Ted Ginn Jr. is still injured so that will work itself out or it won’t.

If we can stop Marshawn Lynch and Russell Wilson aand have a lead Frank Gore , La Michael James and Colin Kaeperneck should come out of the game.

Play very few starters for the Arizona game. Just play enough as to not get rusty.

I’ve watched LaMichael for quite a number of years now as a Duck and how it sweet it was to see him become a part of the 49er Mystic. I knew he was a special player and pick… you just see that in some like Montana, Rice, and so on… especially with his work ethic and no quit attitude. That and Kap and the rest, I say with great pride… NO ONE HAS IT BETTER THAN US. NO ONE. Great LJ! Keep up the great work and let’s see you out there for years to come. Go Niners!

Buzz, unless GB loses next week we will likely need to play to win against Arizona…otherwise risk not having the first round bye.

@Mark stop it. Both Hunter and LMJ are excellent RB’s. We are very fortunate to have them both.
