Morning Tailgate: Dec. 12

Posted by Taylor Price on December 12, 2012 – 9:29 AM

Earlier this week, we discussed Aldon Smith’s chances of winning NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors. Sports lllustrated’s Peter King believes the 49ers outside linebacker and league’s sack-leader (19.5) has a serious chance of taking home the honor if he’s able to break the NFL’s single-season sack record of 22.5 set by Michael Strahan.

If able to break the record, Smith might pick up even more hardware according to ESPN.com’s Mike Sando, who lists Smith at No. 10 on his latest MVP Watch post.

“Smith has 10 sacks in his last four games,” Sando wrote in his explanation for Smith’s inclusion in the Top-10. “He has 15 sacks in his last seven games. For perspective, consider that Hall of Famer Bruce Smith finished two of his 19 seasons with 15-plus sacks.”

Brian McIntyre of Yahoo! Sports’ Shutdown Corner Blog lists New England and San Francisco as the league’s top teams in his latest power rankings.

Dan Brown of the San Jose Mercury News shares comments from 49ers players who watched the Patriots big victory over the Texans on Monday Night Football.

Michael Crabtree spoke with CSNBayArea.com about his end zone celebrations which raise money for a great cause.

49ers.com looked at the team’s preparation for New England’s high-tempo offense and San Francisco’s “Pistol” offensive attack.

No sweat he’ll get the numbers with help of his teammate Justin smith, who regularly gets double teamed. That will open up some holes for him to take advantage at getting at the QB Tom Brady. Just watch and see!!!

Can’t wait to see how many times Brady gets up off that cold ground. We win if the defense gets in his space n stays in his space, ALL NIGHT LONG. (Lionell Richie voice)

Brady’s arm is muchfaster than his feet. Up front DL stunts will cause just enough hesitation in his throwing motion to make him “aldon bait”.

I don”t care if the 49ers win by 1 point. It would still be a win but, I think the 49ers are going to shock the Pats and the League and win BIG like 21 or more points. Moss,Davis and Gore are going to light it up.

well we know jim will be calling his bro. john and get all the notes he can on the pats,,,the ravens beat the pats and play them tough so i;m sure john will help cuz the ravens need the pats to loss to help them on their seeding…also moss will help read the offense to help the d this week….the niners need to step up and show they r an elite team…just believe!also it would be good if packers and giants lose cuz they r to close so more incentive for niners…watch scores early in day see how it plays out…get pumped this could be preview of super bowl!

I hope they put Culliver on Welker every once in a while. . .they should change it up between Cully and Rogers. . .I’m not sure Rogers is up to it on his own.

The man is a beast…..Aldon is as good as a young talent as I have ever seen…..with that lancky body he doesn’t appear to be that strong…but he’s as strong as a true bull rusher i have ever seen……and to have the oppurtunity to learn more from such an awesome football lineman as Justin Smith…..also a true talented bull rusher……they all try to put 2 men him and he still pushes there as* back towards the q.b. …….as 49er fans we are blessed to have those 2 men, as well as the rest of our awesome defense…….go Niners time to bring some as* whipping to foxboro
