So those of you who view Harbaugh as a coaching god, do you believe him when he says Kap had a "great game" against the rams? I see it as he was directly responsible for 10 of the Rams points and Harbaugh is full of $hit! And I'm willing to bet Alex thinks hes full of $hit! To me, Jim may be a great coach someday but for now he has allot to learn. He has put himself and this team in a tough position and I just hope if Kap is not cutting it, he is not too stuborn to go back to what got them to the NFC championship!

@49erdefense2012, I would have to kindly disagree. I think too many fans give Alex too much credit last year. He played it safe the entire year and let the defense win the games for them. There was a game where our defense got him 5 turnovers and the Niners won by a touchdown or less. I agree that this is late to be making a QB swap but I was rooting for Colin to start the first game of the year. We have seen the best that Alex has to offer and it MIGHT be enough to get to a Super Bowl. Most of the 49ers wins last year came down to game winning field goals by Akers who is struggling this year. Can you really give Alex credit for all those wins last year? He had the second best defense (arguably the first) in the NFL and he still barely won games by a couple points. Plain and simply, Harbaugh made moves in the off-season to try to add horsepower to this offense and it is still stagnant under Alex.

This young QB has the weight of the whole team on his young back, to take out one of the hottest QB's in the NFL to start a young unproved QB could be the downfall of both?
Kaepernick looked real hot vs the Bears, and only so so against the Saints, and not to good at all against the Rams!
I honestly believe coach got a little too smart for his own good, and painted himself in the preverbal corner. Its so hard for me to understand why he would put sooo much on the line, all our players trusted him to make the right moves. They didn't expect him to take such a gamble with (THEIR) team, If the gamble works there is no change, No Change we just keep winning. but on the other hand if it doesn't work .. f u c k e d!

You honestly believe this is how you develop a young QB??
Myself I've lost a lot of respect for coach, and I don't feel good feeling this way. The man lied to us how bad is that, he said "I'm going with the QB with the Hot Hand " he lied!

Yes I do believe Alex could keep up with Brady, why not he did just fine keeping up with Bree's last year. arguably the hottest QB in the NFL last year. Something that Kaepernick couldn't do 2 games back. And please don't forget the Defense put up 14 points vs the Saints, and as far as limiting Kap, development that makes no sense at all. Rogers come to mind!

@ninerfan80, the rams played man most of the game after frank gore had some early game success, kap couldnt get it done then. all your saying is the same thing everyone else has been saying. the kid has alot of POTENTIAL,,THATS IT.
POTENTIAL doesnt amount to squat in this league. and for anyone to say this is the right move switching qb's near the end of the season, during a super bowl run, benching a qb who had not played badly at all, does not know todays nfl. c'mon, coach harbaugh knows the risk he is taking, this move is unprecedented. you dont make a qb change like this unless your team has already been knocked out of the playoffs. oh yeah, lets play our rookies now, here at the end of the season, who cares if they havent played A SINGLE DOWN IN THE REGULAR SEASON.,,,,yes harbaugh played qb in the nfl,,,a long time ago, the nfl today is nothing like when harbaugh played. the only thing left is to see where the chips may fall,,for anyone to say they arent worried about what may happen with this team after this drastic move coach has made does not understand fully the nuances of todays nfl.

I might be the only one but I trust Coach Harbaugh. Alex Smith is a smart but safe player. He is a QB who can keep you in the game but he is not a gunslinger that is going to put up points when your defense has a bad day. He is good at what he does but is very limited.

The Niners traded up and spent good money to get Kaepernick. Anyone who has seen his college film and the records he set knows why they are doing this. Kaepernick has the strongest arm since Dan Marino and also is a threat with his feet. He is inexperienced, but you can only get experience one way.. through playing. The true test of character is how he will rebound from this defeat. He will have to beat Miami through the air as they have been tough against the run lately. I truly believe that Kaepernick is the future of the Niners and he can get experience and win now. He has been in all the same meetings and had all the same coaching as Alex for the last 2 years under Harbaugh. Harbaugh is a QB and knows the position well. I trust him and his instincts. There are so many teams that want to see the 49ers fail.. want to see the locker room divided.. which is why they keep talking about this. The guys are rallying behind Kaepernick. Harbaugh will not lose that locker room... those guys love him.

I just have one question to ask. When the Niners head to New England a week from Sunday, do you believe Alex could keep up with Tom Brady? I honestly do not believe he can. The Patriot Defense has allowed a lot of yards and points this year and we would be hoping that Alex could do enough and then rely on our Defense to spend a lot of time on the field to try to stop Brady. Trust me, Bellicheck will wear down our defense if we can't keep our offense on the field. I think Kaepernick has the better chance at this. IF Harbaugh & Roman use him correctly, he is a match-up nightmare for defensive coordinators. You have to choose to keep one extra man in the box to prevent Frank Gore from having a big day AND someone to spy Kaepernick. Kap can through from outside the pocket so when he does get outside he can beat you with his arm or his feet. If they dedicated extra men to prevent the rush, you leave man-to-man coverage on Moss, Vernon, Mario, Crab, etc. If they add the shifty LaMichael James who is great at catching out of the backfield.. that complicates it even more for a defense. I just hope our Offensive Coordinator and head coach has a good plan for these upcoming games to best utilize these weapons. Quite honestly, I think that starting Alex is a safe bet but hurts the 49ers in the future because you are limiting the development of Kaepernick who can be the future for this team and a real star in this league.
