49ers Add LB Hoffman-Ellis to P-Squad

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed LB Alex Hoffman-Ellis to the practice squad. To make room for Hoffman-Ellis, the team also announced that they have released S Eddie Whitley.
Hoffman-Ellis (6-0, 232) originally signed with the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent on May 8, 2012, and was later released following training camp.
A 23-year old native of Los Angeles, CA, Hoffman-Ellis played at Washington State where he appeared in 35 games (33 starts) and tallied 253 tackles, 5.0 sacks and four interceptions, in his career. As a senior, he earned Second-Team All-Pac 12 honors.
Whitley was signed to the 49ers practice squad on November 30, 2012.

Umm, if the Rams didn’t want him then why are we taking him? They’re the last team I would want sloppy seconds from. Hate ‘em!
