The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have promoted LB Michael Wilhoite from the practice squad to the active roster, signing him to a two-year contract. The team also announced that S Eddie Whitley has been added to the practice squad.

Wilhoite (6-0, 240) was originally signed to the 49ers practice squad on December 14, 2011. Following the 2011 season, he signed a Reserve/Future contract with San Francisco on January 24, 2012. Wilhoite spent training camp with the 49ers this year, and was later signed to their practice squad following training camp.

A 25-year old native of Topeka, KS, Wilhoite was a three-year captain at Washburn University, where he recorded 211 tackles and three interceptions.

Whitley was signed to the 49ers practice squad on November 20, 2012, and was later released on November 27.

Huh, seems like neither Jenkins or James are ready to play in the NFL.

These are good additions though. Our special teams need to have a facelift if Anthony Dixon will be a bigger factor in the running game.

I have full trust in Harbaugh and the staff. These moves will work out.
