Frank Gore and Marshawn Lynch enter “Thursday Night Football” as the NFL’s No. 8 and No. 3 rushers, respectively.
Both will face challenging rush defenses.
Seattle has allowed 70.0 yards per game and two rushing touchdowns; San Francisco has allowed 92.7 yards per game and two rushing touchdowns.
When both teams meet in a nationally televised game, it’s likely that the 49ers’ first NFC West divisional game to be decided in the fourth quarter. Five of Seattle’s six games have been decided by six points or less. Both of San Francisco’s wins over Seattle in 2011 were decided in the fourth quarter, too.
Truth be told, close games have been a league-wide trend in 2012.
Through six weeks, 51 games have been decided by eight points or fewer, which is tied for the second-most such games through the first six weeks of a season in NFL history.
Gore, one of San Francisco’s offensive co-captains, feels confident in the 49ers ability to bounce back this week, according to Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News.
“Gore, who had runs of 13 and 10 yards in the first half (against New York), finished with 36 yards. He is confident the 49ers (4-2) will right themselves in time for Thursday’s visit by the Seattle Seahawks (4-2), noting: ‘We know we’re a good team.’”
In 12 career games against the Seahawks, Gore has 208 carries for 1,079 yards and four rushing touchdowns. He’s averaged 89.9 yards per game and 5.2 yards per carry.

this might be the game that randy moss will see extensive playing time, running 9 routes all day to draw the coverage out of the middle of the field so crabs, mario and vernon can have some success, then its frankie time, if I remember correctly frank the tank seems to have his best games against the seahawks at home
,,,,we will know soon enough,,thursday is almost here

simple ….fine we will act like the giants game never happened because of the i told you so’s …i am fine with that …but 1 thing you guys always bark out at me …what do you not htink the coaches know what they are doing …and yet you blame them as well as the defense and the receivers for the worst game of the season and alex gets kudos still … oh helooked good in first half oh staley gone….oh well no one was open …..crock several times crabs was open down field as well as moss and manningham ….alex got scared and dumped off way to many times …and it cost us TD’s and a huge game ….yet climb on his back and ride him to the playoffs …if we make it and see how far he gets you …..and when he is gone you will all say well he was not that good ….we should have gotten rid of him sooner …..lol 7 years not enough of a league wide joke for yas …i for one am tired of saying i am a niner fan only to hear they suck and alex is the worst ….seven years tired of it and still you cheer him and hope in one hand he will amount to anything else but a money pit …..sor shame niner fans …for shame

oh and yes alex and several team members do read this as well as one defensive coach ……..so for you to shine em on whne it is obvious that we need a better QB to compete for real ….is just salt in the wound that is alex …….2 more years on his contract i hope he retires soon ……

it doesnt matter if there is someone open down field, if the qb doesnt have time to set his feet, what happens no brain? you say excuses,we say giants played a better game than us, back and forth, back and forth, the only constant is your obvious dis-taste for alex and his quarterbacking ability. I want the 49ers to win, every game, and I dont care how they do it. bad qb play bad defense either way a win is what we are trying to achive. id rather take an ugly win than a good looking loss. thats another fact that escapes your grasp. winning as a team.
losing as a team. I wouldnt want you on my team, nor do the rest of the loyal fans who support whoever is throwing the rock for us, dude after 9 years of bottom feeding and you cant be happy with the success this team has had recenlty, all you can do is cry for better qb play to be better? better than what? what we had been for the last 9 years? get lost fake fan,,,,,,,,,,DONE

Inconsistent play on all sides of the ball means out coaches have some work to do, too many highs and to many lows for a good team. We need to start playing consistent football again that was our trademark last year, like I had posted I can see us overlooking the viks but not the giants?
Its the whole team thats needs to get it together, coaches on down we seems to be lacking stability? These loses could be good for us? They are early in the season, and maybe let our guys know that they have to pull together and play their A game. And that goes for our coaches as well A-Game all the way out, we have the players the coaches, and we should be up for the task at hand. Because we are equal to any team in the nfl!

By 9erdog on Oct 16, 2012 | Reply
No not like other teams are in trouble, but just the same we are in trouble. If you don’t see that then I don’t what to say … good thing is we have 10 games to get things in order! Thursday nights game will give us a better idea of whats going on, like I said we have a good team, good coaches. But good teams with good coaches can find themselves in trouble, we should have never lost those 2 game like that. Especially the giants game on our home turf!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONINERS!

look not to thursday nights game as a measuring stick, this game plan will be pretty plain or vanilla if you will there just isnt enough time to put together a full game plan with film study and so on. we have to buckle up and play, and staley looks like he wont be available,he didnt participate in todays walk through and went to see a neurologist, look for boone to move to left tackle and davis and kilgore to play right guard,,this is gunna be a toguh game to win but we gotta go out and play nonetheless

wow guys really you blasted me before the game when i said if alex does not step up it will be bad game …..you said the coaches believe in him and the line is good and the defnese is best …

alex threw 3 picks and had a number of 3 and outs and that was whose fault the coaches the line …lol cant see the forest for the trees …dont worry when alex is gone and you release your frustration with him all will be forgiven…

Well no, not a measuring stick as far as a win or loss, but yes a measuring stick as far as playing together as a team. I still not sure how we even got away from playing good solid football?Reading our press clipping maybe who knows? because if we did know it would be real easy to fix !
But I have faith because I am a faithful, a Niner Faithful!

When a football fan cries about things he CAN NOT CONTROL then that fan needs to go find a team that fits his so called personality, find one team that has a QB that you like, so you won’t cry so much …….

I don’t want to read what everyone else have written before I say my peace. I thought we did not prepare all that well for the Giants as we normally should have.
I was disappointed seeing so many trick plays in this game. The beauty of trick plays is that it happens not too frequently, that way, the opposition will not recognize it when we run it. If you use it all too often, it will bite you in the rear-end every time because it takes the guessing game out as far as the defense is concern.
Why not play consistent football. Use our long ball threats to open the run, and use the run to open the long/short options. We have waaaayyyyyy to many weapons and talents on offense to be running trick plays more than once a game.
I thought I saw too many of the under study QB in the game, more than I like to see. G-Ro, Kaper is not our starting QB, nor even close to it. He is good for one or two plays in a game, even two is too many for my liking. If he comes in too often, it only puts pressure and uncertainty on our Starting QB. What is he to think? You are giving him mixed messages where there needs to be nothing of the kind in the kind of battles we went up against in the Giants. They are a good defensive team. They will not fall for the trick plays of the understudy. I know hind-sight is 20/20, but hell. I can’t believe the types of plays we ran last Sunday. Gore didn’t get a carry in the second half? That’s crazy, and the understudy got that much playing time is not acceptable IMHO.
I know the mentality of the team is team first, individuals second. But hell, that philosophy is only good up to a point, after that, it doesn’t hold any water. Harbaugh, and G-Ro, ask yourselves if you were in Alex Smiths shoes, what would be going through your mind when the understudy comes in at crucial points in the game to run the defense when it was your job to do so? It would disrupt his preparations, take him out of his game, and it will cause second guessing that needs not be there if we can all help it be so. Anyway, I know we aren’t perfect, so I know that we will lose some and win some, I just ask that we do a more thorough job preparing for games. Let’s not dwell on trick plays, and leave the understudy on the sidelines and let him take his learning curves a little more slowly.
Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Niners!!!!

haterade Thats good. I feel the same as far as J-11 being a 9ers fan. No way! Because if Alex plays a great game, he looks bad, and then if we loss big! he can say “I told you all so” So no,! No way is he rooting for us to win.
I believed that this player couldn’t play for sh t and didn’t want him to play, But when he did play I only wanted him to succeeded, I’ve never heard J-11 say anything like that. mater of fact when Alex does play a great game (SAINTS) he only trys to pick it apart. So No-way is J-11 a 9ers fan, nore does he know anything about the game of football.

niner from tonga i have to agree and dissaagree with that, i agree with the trick play calling maybee too much, cuz before the game is said the giants dont fall for it, thats on the coaches for out thinking themselves, but i disagree with it affecting alex smith cofidence, cuz he finally has a coach and cordinator that have a plan and know how to get the best from players, and i kinda feel like harbaugh and roman have made him as good as he is now so his cofidence will be fine if he survives, gooooooo niners !!!!
By abrahamer on Oct 16, 2012 | Reply
tonga ur totally right tho about us getting away from the formula, running to open throwing, which opens up running, thats what they did to us sunday, i wanna see us get back to that basic formula west coast high percent plays that move the chains control the clock wear down the defense and when its over we win

ofcourse if they bring in kapp and he throws a 70 yard td,yet to happen, then well ill be picking my jaw off of the ground

and you mean to tell me that if the kaeper got 2 years with the first string and coaches full attention that he would not be better than alex ….come on …..even kaeper can throw check downs and a random deep ball to run your conservative and yet often imitated but never fully instituted west coast offense …please only Walsh and Shanahan can run that and it should not be attempted by any others …….period

The niners are in flux looking for an identity and the coaches are trying like heck to find one ..versitle or straight up pounding or even hybrid …..all needs personel to pull it off ….alex my friends is and would be suited for the patriots or even arizona offense …not the niners …..and yes the coach went with him for a reason …the same reason the other coaches did …uuumm what were their names …..of the offensive coordinators that tried so hard to make alex do anything …yeah they all got fired for a reason he does not fit ….

keep up the good rants and believe in one thing that we will make playoffs ..maybe at this point …we do not look good and it seems the niners are scrambling to figure out why ….only a matter of time before they realize it is the QB….that not one team wanted to sign …they went with rookies and has beens before they took alex ….and for one reson only because they seen the tape and alex is horrible
By 11yearswithalex on Oct 16, 2012 | Reply
what are you going to say ..please no ..but what if the seachickens woop up on the niners and alex throws for 160 and 4 picks ….you will say oh it is the line he has no time ..hogwash open your eyes and stop wishing on rainbows

same old alex same old game …check downs and no TD’s ….you can play the game of blame it on the line but he had plenty of time to look at all receivers and still blew it ….or you can say the defense blew it but that is wrong too no defense can play for 3 full quarters and not give up any scores …..coaches faults ….not you just said last week they were the toast of the league ……you use every excuse for alex and yet put no blame on him ….wonder why that is …..since the play starts with him and he makes the changes and the reads………..food for thought …try not to spill your excuses on the keyboard as you try and muster the courage to see i am right …..true story

deferents between this year and last year, is that everything that our coaches did last year Worked! Not so this year! so we need to get back to basic’s power running game with the quick drop offs, and not being afraid to throw the deep ball. isn’t that the reason we picked up Moss and the young speeder?
The trick play isn’t gonna win or save games, but should be used to just keep opposing teams defenses off balance once a game is more then enough? IMHO!

Trick plays, once a game is about you can get away with that, otherwise you’re being cute, and being cute against the Super Blow Champs, well that’s a lack of respect, and they didn’t say a word on the field, they left it all on the score board.
We need to get back to basic’s the power running game with the quick drop offs, and not being afraid to throw the deep ball. isn’t that the reason we picked up Moss and the young speeder?

i’m not a big fan of alex smith but he is the starting qb so be it..my problem is he needs to be able to come back an take control when the niners r down..he looks lost..watch the two picks by rolle..three giants r right there with the niner wr..he looks the whole way..sundays loss isn’t all his fault but a big BUT.. he needs to be able to step up and try to be a leader..there was about 6 minutes left in third qtr. down 20 to 3..there seems to me like no one was in a hurry up or moving with urgentize..again alex must take control and get the guys moving..be a leader..the play calling to me was aweful..to many trick plays putting kap in at bad times..bomb to moss great play alex should have ran down field an set up and got into a rythem..instead coach puts kap in and he gets sacked bad bad call..one other thing i noticed akers is missing field goals he hit last year..plus start of second half he didn’t reach end zone..turned into a big return then td..harbaugh needs to coachem up better..remember niners r not going to sneak up on anyone this year..
