Patrick Willis Powers up with Duracell

Posted by Alex Espinoza on September 21, 2012 – 1:24 PM

All-Pro linebacker Patrick Willis overcame adversity from a young age to become one of the NFL’s best players. So who is the man behind the No. 52 jersey?

Willis and Duracell teamed up to film this powerful commercial, showing the strength it took Willis to fight on his way to the top. The powerful ad debuted on the big screen at Candlestick Park during last week’s game against the Detroit Lions and was well-received by Willis, who said he was happy about the message it conveyed to fans.

“Duracell did a heck of a job and I’m appreciative that they asked me to be their guy,” Willis said. “Everything kind of fit together and that’s when you know you have something special. The way they put it together was phenomenal and it kind of took me by surprise with how well it ended up.”

Duracell and Willis also took to Twitter and Facebook to promote the commercial’s message. Using the hashtag #TrustYourPower on Twitter or by logging on to Duracell’s Facebook page, fans can share their stories of trusting their power to trigger a $1 commitment (up to $200,000) from Duracell.

The money raised will provided disadvantaged youth with scholarships to ProCamps, an organization that runs pro athletes’ personal sport camps ages 7-14. Willis held his ProCamp for hundreds of children during the offseason in Palo Alto, one of the nearly 40 ProCamps nationwide.

“It’s always great anytime when you can be a part of something that gives back,” Willis said. “It’s another opportunity for kids to benefit and hopefully step closer to achieving their goals.”
