The 49ers players have the day off, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be heard from this Friday on 49ers.com.
Our latest Niner Talk podcast features an interview with starting cornerback Tarell Brown who discussed the team’s Sunday preseason contest against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Brown said the first-team defense is excited for the challenge and as always, looking to hit everything moving.
The interview also covered Brown’s road trip necessities which included Welch’s fruit snacks and a round neck pillow for long cross-country naps. Matt Barrows of The Sacramento Bee, a writer frequently linked in the Morning Tailgate, also joined the latest podcast to discuss 49ers storylines heading into Week 3 of the preseason and the frontrunners for his yearly “Iron Bee” award.
Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com looks at the quarterback matchup between the 49ers and Broncos. Marvez: “The 49ers know for certain that they still field one of the NFL’s most mentally tough quarterbacks coming off his best season. They also believe the 28-year-old (Alex) Smith may have even more upside in 2012 thanks to an improved supporting cast.”
Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com noted that NaVorro Bowman and Chris Culliver sat out of Thursday’s practice.
Kevin Lynch of SFGate.com shares practice notes from Thursday, including Jim Harbaugh’s comments on Brandon Jacobs doing enough this offseason to make the 53-man roster.
Lynch also shares details of Bowman asking Patrick Willis to be the godfather on his newborn twins.
Barrows, our podcast guest, shares the details of undrafted 49ers defensive tackle Tony Jerod-Eddie’s close relationship with Broncos pass-rusher Von Miller. Barrows: “When Miller was in high school, his family took in three other players on the DeSoto (Tx) High football team, including 49ers defensive lineman Tony Jerod-Eddie. “It was like a sleepover every day,” Miller said by phone Thursday.”
Jeff Deeney of ProFootballFocus.com analyzes the 49ers heading into 2012 as part of the site’s 32 Teams in 32 Days series. Deeney: “While the 49ers are a better, and much deeper team on paper in 2012, it’s hard to see them duplicating the 13 wins they put up in 2011 as a much tougher schedule awaits. That being said, this team is still the consensus pick to come out of the NFC West, and even if they only win 10 games, they should be in just as good of a position to try and make a deep run in the playoffs in 2012.”
Alex Espinoza of 49ers.com detailed the visit of the Panther Racing team to 49ers headquarters.
