49ers Activate Joe Looney

Posted by Alex Espinoza on July 31, 2012 – 11:51 AM

The San Francisco 49ers announced that G Joe Looney has passed a physical and therefore was activated from the active/non-football injury list. Looney was a fourth-round draft pick out of Wake Forest in April after suffering a foot injury at the Senior Bowl, but has already garnered praise from coach Jim Harbaugh for his attitude and football knowledge.

You can also follow Looney during his first NFL Training Camp on his 49ers.com Rookie Blog. While he couldn’t get on the field with his teammates, Looney spent much of the offseason alongside backup lineman Chase Beeler, taking mental reps and learning the offense from the sidelines and in the meeting rooms.  The 49ers didn’t practice Tuesday, but are scheduled to return to the fields on Wednesday morning.

Said it before – its worth repeating (at least I think so). When the smoke and dust settles on the last cut down day, we will end up providing several teams with the nucleus to build a roster (Denny Green, where are ya’ Son).

Every time I think about that roster limit bizness, my temp goes up a notch or two.

You have a good point my friend Time2speakup but if the niners brain trust takes a good look at it we can keep a lot of those players and still be under the cap, we (niners mgt) has to be very smart about who they let go and who they keep.

Lets GET IT ON !! Positions of need to get better or at least stronger to & thru the long season …wide recvr, offensive line, run’g back, def back & depth at all positions & spec. teams look to be BETTER by far! If healthy, the 49ers will be there in the end….Just execute now because they have the attitude.!! GO NINERS!!

I’m mostly concerned about outside linebacker and our depth there. However, we will end up cutting a lot of very good players.

We need better backups on special teams and the backfield..Remember
backup number 26 giving up a touchdown on 3rd and fifteen against the Giants on the playoffs. He came in on that on play because number 22 had gotten injured on the previous play. And of course, remember the to fumbles by Williams
