Morning Tailgate: July 17

Posted by Taylor Price on July 17, 2012 – 9:19 AM

The closer we get to training camp, the more we come across last-minute predictions for the 2012 season. Not to worry, 49ers Faithful would approve of these opinions.

The latest offering, NFL Network’s season preview of the San Francisco 49ers as part of their “32 Teams in 32 Days” series, touches on the 49ers chances of improving on last year’s NFC title game appearance.

NFLN analysts Jamie Dukes and Daryl Johnston spoke positively about the team’s chances of reaching a sixth Super Bowl in franchise history. In fact, Dukes has gone on the record as predicting the 49ers being the NFC’s representative in this year’s Super Bowl.

More analysis on the 49ers heading into camp and the latest team headlines can be found after the jump.

Dukes and Johnston also discussed one of the biggest offseason topics for the 49ers, the expectations for Randy Moss in 2012.

NFL.com fantasy football editor Michael Fabiano recently discussed his 2012 fantasy football outlook for 49ers players.

Former 49ers cornerback and current team radio analyst Eric Davis recently broke down his rookies to watch in 2012. Davis will join NFL Network’s newly created “NFL AM” morning show beginning on July 30th.

Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News shares the news on the deadline passing for Dashon Goldson to reach a long term contract with the 49ers after being designated as the team’s “franchise” player. Inman: “Goldson can only collect his $6.2 million tender this season as the 49ers’ “franchise” player in free agency. The sixth-year-veteran said last week he’d play on that one-year franchise tag rather than boycott the season without a multi-year deal.”

49ers.com’s offseason coverage continued with a camp preview on the offensive line, plus two “Meet the Gold Rush” videos with cheerleaders Carianne and Bria-Chantel.

Was pen pals with Eddie Debartolo back in the day. Use to get letters from his Ohio office, free tickets with his and Kathy Keklak’s signature. I think the present bunch will be better than the Montana, Solomon, TYLOR, Craig, Rathman etc.

We have to 2 bookends in Moss and Manningham. We have a plethora of solid running backs Hunter, James, Gore etc.

last season was great,no one could have forseen the success the team was to have. in todays NFL,to repeat the kind of success we had last year is a tall order,a very tall order indeed. as long as we win the division and make the play-offs im kool with that, a trip to the super bowl,of course is always wanted by the fans of every team, but I dont want to get to look too far ahead, but there is no doubt,if the defense plays up to the level they did last year, and keep teams under 20 points, with the new additions on offense, better red zone play, and improved 3rd down conversions,we will find ourselves in the big game for sure

I read somwhere in yesterdays tailgate blog someone said that dashon goldson was a below avg. safety playing in a good system and thats the only reason he did good last year. i must disagree, goldson has always been able to help in run support, and has always had a nose for the ball, how many times had we seen singletary explaining to him to make the tackle and not the ronnie lott whoo hit, I know I saw it several times early in his career. he now has whitner at SS and very good cover corners inside and out. he can now focus on his job and not try to do too much and that very point was made evident with his 6 picks last year. the guy is one of the top 5 FS’s in the league and he will be playing for a free agent contract for next season. the dude is gunna kill it..it will be very costly for the 49ers to keep him and I do believe whitner will be looking for a new deal as well and other important team members, winning the super bowl will bring them all back at a much more affordable rate.

ok lets face facts our schedule last year was soft besides an upswinging detroit and a close giants game wich was won by all pro justin smith not alex by the way …..we were one of 2 teams who should have won the division last year ….stop making it more than it was from here on out we will really see where we stand …it should be fun to see where the chips fall and how long alex stays a QB…….should be fun to watch

Sorry, to all you MLB, and NBA, and NHL fans, but this is the time of the year most sports fans really look forward to: football season! NFL, NCAA, it’s all good! It’s just like the 80’s again. Are ya all feeling it?

  8. By # 1 D-FENSE 2012 on Jul 17, 2012 | Reply

hey eleven years, only 2 teams in our division are set at qb,the 49ers and the rams, seattle has no idea who will toss the rock this year, marshawn is going to be suspended for 8 games this year, this saturdays dui charge in oakland is his 3rd strike. dude is busted!! the rams have an ENTIRE new coaching staff, arizona has no idea who will be the starting rb or qb, we seem to be the only team within the nfc west that has its $hit together

  9. By # 1 D-FENSE 2012 on Jul 17, 2012 | Reply

eleven are you for real?? making it more that it was??? tell me,what other team in the nfc west should have won the division?? you have posted some lame arse things before but that statement qualifies you for the idiot of the year award.
13-3 is no easy task. and to try and make less of it is a measure of gross imbicility
you, sir, are either naturally stupid,or have no understanding of football at all.

Hey #1D just leave him alone with his missery. I stopped reading his post’s last year because with some people you realize, they will never be happy! If Alex Smith one a super bowl he would say ” yeah but can he win two?”. Just not a happy dude. Just like your mom taught you….punch him on ignore! Now I am sure we have the best team in the NFC. Packers will be close but not enough D. The Saints will give it their all but will fall short. Losing both coaches is way to much to over come. Giants……will they stay hungry enough? The one team that does cause concern is the EAGLES! If they stay healty watch out. IMO we will face them in the NCF championship game. have a good one fellow 9er fans.

Just happy to be in this position… I am ecstatic for what we have to look forward too. Seriously, deep everywhere with past 3 years drafts. No ridiculous highly paid FA’s. One note I’d like to make, if D.Goldson wanted a long term contract with the 9ers, he would of been at the training camp showing everyone the work he’s putting in. All he did was give other Safeties a chance to show what they got. That rookie and Colin Jones are going to have a shot, watch. And they must have impressed enough to not got head over heals for Goldson. One good year doesn’t make you eligible for a super fat contract. We’ll see… Also juiced to see that offense roll out a 4 & 5 wide. Alex is going to be slobbering with open receivers. Especially after he took Drew Brees invitation to see that Throwing Coach that he goes to. 11? Seriously, your hate has consumed your ego and your posts show you’re not bright. Last year you pegged the 9ers going 5-11 or 7-9… You are straight up character. Didn’t get enough attention at home. LMAO…

Why is Eleven Years soooo obsessed with Alex? So you going to root against him so you can say “I told you so”. Maaaaan, you lame.

  14. By dave g. on Jul 17, 2012 | Reply

CJay: Its all about Eleven Years lame@ss wants to be right. He is one of these guys that throws out sh!t THEN when he is wrong makes excuses & tries to act like he didn’t say that. Eleven Years: Any professional profile psychologist would see you for who you are. A guy who is a loser in LIFE & its precisely why your single motivation in life is to search for that lil high of being able to say “I told you so” at all costs which causes you to say things that are continuously illogical. But you can’t even see it BECAUSE the drug has a serious hold on you while you search for that high You really are a pathetic individual.

you are right on it dave g. he wants alex to fail so he can say I told you so and how right he was about him all along

Let’s get one thing straight 1def you are not the editor of this blog and besides I know what I did, you always seem to be the one who wants attention by writing those long and redundant posts. And every time I read one it’s the same SH-T ALL THE TIME . one more thing. lmao

  27. By # 1 D-FENSE 2012 on Jul 18, 2012 | Reply

rjdniner, your a moron, laughing at your self, many others aside from myself have said the very same things about you. and if you look REAL close, youll see by the number of thumbs up on my posts, there is nothing redunant about them, you seem to be the only one who doesnt understand them. but that does not surprise me your lack of intelligence shows with just about every post you make dumb as$

rjdniner, you can not,and have not, been able to put more than 10-12 words in a sentence without mis-spelling at least 3-4 of them,,,AND YOU DO IT ALL THE TIME,you post lame, and stupid comments, nothing you talk about anybody agrees with, and yet you seem intent upon constantly rambling aimlessly on
your saying that everytime you read one of my post that its always the same??
