Morning Tailgate: July 9

Posted by Taylor Price on July 9, 2012 – 10:34 AM

Report dates for San Francisco 49ers Training Camp presented by HP have been announced. Rookies will report on July 21st; veterans will report five days later on the 26th.

In order to get fans caught up with the team, 49ers.com continues to preview each position group as we get closer to camp. Already, we’ve looked at the quarterbacks, wide receivers and linebackers. Stay tuned for more camp previews all through July.

Chris Burke of SI.com recently wrote a team-wide breakdown of the 49ers as the team approaches camp. According to Burke, improvements in the passing game, Aldon Smith’s development as an every-down linebacker and the defensive unit’s sustained health are the team’s biggest storylines to track.

“Both (Jim) Harbaugh and (Alex) Smith should have more confidence in the receivers this year, if nothing else,” Burke wrote. “Michael Crabtree and tight end Vernon Davis caught 72 and 67 passes in 2011, respectively, but the next highest total was (Kyle) Williams’ 20. To help there, the 49ers added free agents (Mario) Manningham and (Randy) Moss, then drafted (A.J.) Jenkins.”

Burke concludes his preview with a strong belief that the team can repeat its 2011 success.

“With (Frank) Gore and newcomer (Brandon) Jacobs carrying the load behind Smith, and with that spectacular defense stuffing opponents on the other side of the ball, the foundation has been laid for another solid season.”

More 49ers headlines can be found after the jump.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com offers a full 2012 calendar of important 49ers events, including training camp report dates, as well as preseason and regular season contests.

Maiocco also examined the team’s depth on the offensive line, including the competition at right guard led by converted tackle Alex Boone. Maiocco: “Boone made a relatively seamless transition from his role as the 49ers’ backup tackle on both sides. In the offseason, he showed plenty of promise as he adapted to his new assignments, stance and technique. If he can keep it going when the pads go on, Boone will undoubtedly be the starting right guard to open the season.”

SI.com offers a photo gallery of the top players to track in training camp. No surprise, Moss got the nod for San Francisco.

Don’t forget to vote for the 49ers to win the ESPY for “Best Game.” The 2012 ESPYs air Wednesday, July 11 at 6 p.m. PT on ESPN.

The Niners will only be limited by their own imagination this season. Mark it!. And right now, the Packers should be concerned. Very concerned.

I don’t think the packers are really concerned about use, they lose to use it’s only one, remember win your division first .and remember what happens when you get in to the play offs a wild card team can win it all.

You read me right, we beat them that’s great or they beat use it’s only ONE game, yes you play to win every game. I am more concerned about beating the Sh-t out of our division. We’ve all seen enough football to know get into the playoff s first. And if you don’t agree, that, s fine .

rjdniner…yeah he read you right unfortunately for you #1 D-FENSE 2012 is right when he said, say what ????? Do people read what they actually write? Then they want to find fault with us. Amazing…rjdniner, are you aware that there is a difference in the two words us & use? It’s two completely different meanings. Are you aware of this earth shattering news in our english language? I could see if it was a typo BUT you keep doing it so I don’t think you aware of the differentiation.

Ahhh now we got the irony of ironys. The guy who names himself “Niner from the Cradle 2 the Grave” to somehow try to “one-up” everyone on these blogs that he is a “Bigger Fan” than the rest of us. Think about a guy who calls himself that. He is the guy accusing others of thinking they better. I think you have it backwards homie.
