Big Mike Iupati Loses Long Hair

Posted by Taylor Price on May 1, 2012 – 4:45 PM

Six years of growth went out the window for 49ers guard Mike Iupati. Known for mauling opposing defensive linemen, Iupati’s easy to spot on the field because of the signature black locks flowing out of his gold 49ers helmet.

However, that will all change in 2012 as the third-year guard has decided to sport a buzz cut for the upcoming season.

“I cut my hair because I wanted a change,” Iupati said on Tuesday, the second day of the team’s Football School sessions. “I wanted a new style, a new beginning, a new start.”

It’s not the only big change in Iupati’s life these days. The Pro Bowl alternate guard got married over the offseason, a special event attended by a handful of 49ers teammates.

“It was nuts, but it was good,” Iupati said of the Hawaiian ceremony. “I love it so far, marriage is good.”

Perhaps, Iupati’s biggest lesson in marriage will help his day job with the 49ers.

“I’m learning how to communicate better,” the 6-foot-5, 331-pound lineman said, followed by a hearty chuckle.

Iupati has enjoyed spending time with his wife Ashley over the offseason. The quality time spent in between workouts is always welcomed by him.

“You always got to make your wife happy, because you’re always out and about with football,” said the new groom. “You always have to make your spouse happy.”

Sounds like Iupati’s learning fast in marriage like he did with football.

Hey, Mike, here’s how you communicate with your new wife better; whenever you get in an argument, just remember to always get the last words in, “You’re right, Dear.” Always works. LOL Congrats and have an awesome season.

If Mike isn’t already a Top 15 Guard in the NFL. Then he will be in the future, man. I love this guy so much. I’ve found a new appreciation for the 49ers’s Offensive Line ever since we drafted Mike and Anthony Davis. We already had Joe Staley, but he needed help. Love the buzz cut on Mike, it suits him very well.
