Morning Tailgate: April 13

Posted by Alex Espinoza on April 13, 2012 – 10:16 AM

Each year, several high-profile NFL Draft prospects earn invites to New York City for a chance to hear their names called by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. While everyone knows players like Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III will be in the green room on April 26, there are some other less familiar names that help make up this year’s record-setting group of 26 invitees.

As for for the 49ers, who hold the No. 30 pick in the first round, there is still plenty of speculation as to which direction they will go. Some say San Francisco will look for more weapons at the wide receiver position while others mention the possible offensive guards who could be worthy of a late, first-round selection.

Aldon Smith shook Goodell’s hand and posed for pictures at Radio City Music Hall during the 2011 NFL Draft, who will do it for the 49ers this year? The latest 49ers draft headlines can be found after the jump.

The NFL officially released the list of 26 invitees on Thursday and you may notice some familiar names from our 49 in 49 pre-draft series. NFL.com also put together a photo gallery featuring all 26 of the invited players.

A couple of 49ers beat writers took a look at the deep class of offensive guards that make up the 2012 NFL Draft. Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com examines a number of options at interior line that the 49ers could consider drafting. Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee profiles Tracy native Amini Silatolu, an intriguing guard from little-known Midwestern State College who has drawn plenty of interest from NFL teams.

Barrows also reported that the 49ers hosted Baylor wide receiver Kendall Wright for a visit on Thursday and that Georgia Tech wideout Stephen Hill is scheduled to visit team headquarters in Santa Clara this weekend. Kevin Lynch of the San Francisco Chronicle also breaks down other wide receivers that have been linked with the 49ers during the pre-draft process.

Tight end Delanie Walker discussed the 49ers involvement with missing Morgan Hill teen Sierra LaMar in a thoughtful interview with KNBR on Thursday. Barrows also noted the efforts of Alex Smith and other 49ers teammates who have helped during the search for LaMar.

In case you missed yesterday’s coverage on 49ers.com, we profiled head strength and conditioning coach Mark Uyeyama for our Coach ‘Em Up Series. You can read his story and watch his interview. Also, we featured Oklahoma wide receiver Ryan Broyles for our latest 49 in 49 player profile.

TWEET ABOUT IT

Vernon Davis stopped by spring football practice for his Alma mater Maryland and talked to coach Randy Edsall and his players on Thursday.

depending on the first 5 picks …look for the niners to move on a O lineman 1st round if the opportunity is there they will jump recievers 2nd-3rd other poss is CB at #30 ….safety????……lol it is all based on the first 5 picks …should be interesting yet will have to wait till preseason for any idea of where we will be going this year …hard schedule….QB????….O line holes????…..the coach will look to bring everything he can out of the guys this year….this is his production year so last year doesn’t look like a fluke …..some guys wont start others will be gone….there is no time to wait and build the time is now he knows it and his moves at QB and bringing back the defense in whole is just that a statement of how he intends to move this team forward and not wait for others to try harder year after year after year……………….and for another 3 years

What is with you people don’t any of you pay attention to the draft of last year? The niners sre loaded with lineman it is the last of their needs.. Yove got alex Boone who isw ready to blossam and he was a stud in college, and has put his demons behind him and was one of Harbaughs main guys…Having said that you then have Persons and Kilgore drafted last year both were beasts in their own right those guys will be pushing the veterans like Goodwin for their jobs rumor is kilgore will get reps at center.. and last but not least you’ve got Garrett Chisholm the Trent baalkes free agent brilliant signin… Go ahead cheak out the guys history, it was a great signing that guy is Star in waitiing. The least of which he brings good young depth

Heres a name you heard it first here folks ” THE RED TIDE! it happens only in summer and it is deadly poisiness perfect for our boys in red and gold…..

  22. By ZenTwist on Apr 14, 2012 | Reply

WRs So Im not a Crabtree guy either One catch in the biggest game of his life says it all..Couldnt get free from tight coverage and slow as caa caa never will be a number one trade him and move on we have seen his best..

That leaves Manningham who is a vast improvement faster and doesnt drop balls and plays bigger in big games, he is an up grade over Crabtree you watch takes his Crabtrees job overhyped ,underplays… Moss who I love?!! Can he still play?? Definetly need another Wr
Finally the list of needs Wr and DBs including safeties I was never a fan of Reggie he always over played the ball and gave up huge plays, Maediu was just a veteran back up

  23. By ZenTwist on Apr 14, 2012 | Reply

We got young and thin in a hurry CJ spillman may be ready for the next step anyone remember that tackle he made against Baltimore one on one stop at the goal line absolutely awesome? after him though way to many questions depth a priority at defensive back/safety

Although Kendricks from Cal would be an awesome pick up

  24. By SHIP on Apr 14, 2012 | Reply

Draft order as follows: WR’s, DB/S, RB, WR, DB/S, OL, DE. Defense name vote goes for “Golden Gate”.

  25. By Skrillaface on Apr 15, 2012 | Reply

I read a couple days ago about naming the Niners Defense!! Someone came up with the one and only and best name, Red Fog Its original, it fits (foggy by the bay) and the Best Defense covers the entire field. Plus how can any team produce in a fog? Thats right you cant! Good Luck to the rest of the league when its yur time to face Red Fog. And all this Alex Smith talk, can it, he is here to stay and finally the same coaches in a consecutive season. Get on his nuts or get off the posts.

  26. By Skrillaface on Apr 15, 2012 | Reply

Why does everyone not like Crabtree, he is like an Issac Bruce. Pulls in almost everything that comes his way which isnt as much as it should be. Watch his college highlights, then watch some pro footage, exactly the same minus the speed to break a tackle and take it to the house ( foot injury ) Crabs is bad and will be the shiv opposite moss.

A STAND UP GUY WHO HAS BEEN THROUGH THE PREVERBIAL RINGER.I WILL BE ROOTING FOR THE GUY TO SUCCEED THIS SEASON.LAST SEASON AT HOME WAS ALMOST PERFECT,,I HATE THE COWBOYS,,THE SECTION WHERE I SIT HAS ITS ALEX HATERS,BUT I WILL SCREAM MY HEAD OFF FOR THE GUY…THIS IS IT FOR ALEX,,WE HAVE GOT HIM SOME WEAPONS,ITS ANOTHER YEAR IN THE SAME SYSTEM,,A FIRST FOR ALEX,,HARBAUGH IS A GREAT COACH,BUT IF ALEX UNDER PERFORMS THIS YEAR I HAVE A FEELING COACH WILL LOOK TO MAKE A CHANGE AT QB,,SO,,ITS ALL IN FOR ALEX AND I WISH NOTHING BUT THE BEST FOR HIM AND OUR SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS,,,,ARE YOU WITH ME??????

well it is done THE DIRTY DOZEN …11 players and harbaugh …nuff said ….as far as sitting behind alex at a baseball game ..and saying he is the best football player there is because of that is ludicrous …that being said ..saying he is a nice guy and wants to help the coaches and the defense and the hot dog guy …is the problem itself …he cant QB so he tries to help everyone else …that is not a QB that is a coach ….if he focused on QB’ing ….maybe and i am stretching here …maybe he could be a McNabb style guy who plays for this team and that and does it well enough to earn a paycheck …..i have seen enough to know he is so bad that i would bet that his jersey sales are right up there with ryan leaf

keep it up all good stuff …like the picks as well as the thought of moving up ….if you dont try and make somthing happen ..you know what happens …………NOTHIN…..sam as alex for the past 8 years his mechanics are a joke no coach or coordinator can help that ..no route or receiver can help that ….no hot dog guy in the stands or even him watching a baseball game will make alex any better than he has been for the lat 8 years …he will not start this year if the coach has anything to say about it

  44. By ELEVEN YEARS WITH ALEX on Apr 15, 2012 | Reply

first of all the Willis jersey is the most selling jersey …2nd is ALDON SMITH ….so you are obviously seeing lots of those and making a mistake wich i understand …and yes i am at the games and the 3 people who sit next to me all wear Aldon jerseys as well as the family in front who wear 2 willis jerseys a Montana jersey and a Aldon jersey …..you see i understand that you are frustrated by the losing seasons and will grab for straws where ever you can ….i will excuse you for that as we all are waiting for the team to make that push to excellence again …..

  45. By the fanster on Apr 15, 2012 | Reply

wrong again eleven, there were maybe 25-30 people TOTAL last year that I saw wearing # 99,,you obviously dont go to the games cuz’ if you did you would never had made a claim like that,,,your mouth speaks the lies and you cant even see them when its making them

  46. By the fanster on Apr 15, 2012 | Reply

there were WAYYY more alex smith jerseys rockin the ‘stick last year than aldon,,,I doubt it will be that way this year cuz the kid kicked butt last year and #99 is a number only butt kickers should wear,,,

wow now you guys can see every person in the stadium you guys must be aliens …wich would explain alot since you obviously are spouting what you obviously dont know ….your section must be full of workin girls because they are the only ones who would take a alex jersey after his performance over the past 8 years ….the simple truth is no matter what you tell people on here they all dont care ….it is real simple until the season starts and we see who is the QB …..everything means nothing and when you bandwagoners jump the alex ship and try to board the winners ship we shall see who is who and how well you are treated when your waste of time is gone
