There’s plenty to discuss this morning in our reoccurring week day post.
First, there’s talk regarding the top perimeter players available in this year’s draft and a prominent draft evaluator who has broken up the top wideouts into different tiers.
More on the top receivers in the 2012 NFL Draft class and of course, the latest in 49ers free agency headlines can be found after the jump.
Wes Bunting of the National Football Post breaks down the various tiers of receiver talent available in this year’s draft. According to Bunting, only Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon (photographed above) stands out as a top-tier prospect at the position.
As for the latest in 49ers free agency, the team would like Alex Smith to sign the contract that was reportedly offered to the eighth-year veteran. CEO Jed York spoke with reporters outside of team headquarters on Monday and told Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, “We’d like for (Smith) to be here.”
Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports the team will host guard/tackle Geoff Schwartz at 49ers headquarters on Tuesday.
Lastly, with the Golden State Warriors retiring the No. 17 jersey of Hall of Fame forward Chris Mullin last night, the team recently aired a video of Mullin playing hoops with 49ers players at a charity event in the mid 90s.
