i loved brandon lloyd when he was originally with us,and honestly i never knew why we got rid of him in the first place,it would be nice to see him in a 9er uniform again, too bad he cant have his old number

leonard davis would be a good fit,it would be good to have another vet on the o-line to teach the younger guys some tricks,i think he should be on the left though, put iupati on the right

I know we might just draft BPA at the 30th we gotta address the WR corp still can’t depend on the old vet’s we should still draft a WR in April draft if Mr Stephen Hill drops we gotta take him at 30th pickl if he’s get’s picked early then we’ll go with Kendall Wright if he falls at 30th

we better pick up some o line we need it. i’ll miss snyder he was a great backup cause he could play anywere. it’s a toss up between BL AND MARIO . i like bl but he always made the crazy catches but dropped the easy ones. ALL I GOT TO SAY IS THANK GOD WE RESIGNED CARLOS ROGERS. NOW ALL 11 STARTERS ON DEF ARE COMING BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ugh! What’s a picture of a Ram doing here!? Oh, that’s Brandon Lloyd. I guess that’s okay then.

And I agree with you, Kurt. Lloyd or Manningham would be nice. I was so nervous about Carlos Rogers! I was re-freshing the Free Agency Tracker like crazy hoping to see the Niners logo beside his name! Getting him back is a big deal.

Pretty upset with the 49ers….after all the Costanzo did for them in special teams….they just let him go off to the Bears…all for the cost of a few bucks and 1 year of time…hope it was worth it..all I know is my days of being a 49ers fan are numbered if they can turn on their guys that easy..

49ers should either trade a 1st rd pick to the Steelers for Mike Wallace or sign Brandon Lloyd. Between them, i rather have Lloyd.

  17. By Wes on Mar 15, 2012 | Reply

If we can get one or both of the guys, Brandon and Mario, With Moss signed and pick up a good WR from draft I say let Crabtree walk after this year. Crab is nothing but a younger Owens.

  18. By Chris on Mar 15, 2012 | Reply

Lock up Davis, lock up Manningham or give Mike Wallace a contract offer. We can afford to give up the 30th overall pick for Wallace he’s worth it.

It is impossible for CK to be worse than Alex, absolutely impossible!!!

start CK, draft the best QB available & spend the time & energy of the coaches on someone who has a chance of improving, not some “washed up never has been”

It will be Manningham or Lloyd, they won’t sign both. Personally I’d like to see Wallace, and he has made it public that he would like to come to SF. I truly believe this is our ace in the hole, management is just being hush hush about it. Just imagine our team if that became reality. NINERS BABY!!!!!!!

ugh really peole are still waveing the alex flag …let it go people the league has turned their back to him becaus he is no good to anyone …the niners keep him areound for god knows why and NO HE CAN NOT GET IT DONE NO MATTER HOW MANY RECEIVERS WE GET ALEX can not throw a slant or even hold the safeties his constant stareing down receivers and his slow delivery are just a few things and the bag is so big with his faults wich is why no team will even consider him as a 3rd stringer …accept for the niners who for some reason want to bury us in this he will get better eventually story so much i had to go out and buy waders to get throguh the muck

Lloyd, Wallace, and Manningham all really good but we still need a tall big bodied WR for the red zone who can go up over the DB and pull it down maybe Moss can fill that roll but would like to have a guy in his prime.

  29. By the obvious on Mar 15, 2012 | Reply

BL has the best hands in the league – they should have never let him go. Wasn’t he the top reciever in the NFL when he went to Denver. Keep the faith, these guys (JH/TB) know what they are doing & Jed listened to his uncle and is letting the football guys – make the football decisions. They are developing a dominate team – with a “team first” attitude. Moss is a great pick up, now get BL or Wallace (they can afford both). And watch out! Can’t even imagine how the opposing D coordinator will sleep at night. I was not an AS fan either – but, he went 13-3 without a #1 WR. You give any NFL QB the weapons they are lining-up and he will do well. Alex is smart and with JH at the helm – he will lead this team. Must I say again, time to stop with the AS bashing – 13-3, NFC Championship game (lost as a team). the future is bright. More offensive weapons and a D that will dominate again. GO NINERS!

Agree with u missouri…Wallace would be GREAT…Lloyd would be Nice….Manningham not sold on I live in NY and watched him on Sundays regularly hes not that great he was a product of defenses focusing on Cruz and Nicks and he ofcourse had Manning throwing to him…He is Crabtree all over again so no point in getting him….Just put our eggs in the basket and go get WALLACE!!! As far as a big body in the Redzone i LIke Alshon Jeffrey still!!!

  31. By Rod on Mar 15, 2012 | Reply

I’m with Jason on this one, go get Mike Wallace, he is the best free agent WR by far and definitly take the pressure off of Crabtree and Moss. If not him then Manningham, WE NEED SOME SPEED at that position.

Well..let’s play “what if…” What if Alex has been working super hard in the off season, with special coaches…..What if Alex becomes that elite QB some people think he can be? What if the head office gets some serious Offensive line people to give him a little more protection and time….well then. With our DEFENSE intact, we will be spending super bowl sunday watching out favorite team wipe up the opponents on that most prestigious of football fields.

    Goooooooo 49ers……make it happen.

We need a qb that will throw the ball more than 5 yards per attempt… We need someone that will throw to his receivers more than his rbs…. We need a qb that can throw for 300 yards more than once a year…. We need a qb not an avoid turnovers manager..

Eventhough we signed randy moss (I liked), I still think we need help at wide reciever seeing that ted ginn has yet to be re-signed and he was a major player in the return game and josh morgan has moved on. I hope we make the moves to land another big threat or a over the middle guy. I am extremely excited carlos rogers got re-signed. I think in the draft we will look at QB in the second and third round.

Also how can you expect someone to be a Peyton Manning when every year you get a new coach and offencive cordnator. So dont say Alex Smith sucks because we were one mistake from the Super Bowl this year.

First off, yeh getting Peyton would be like a dream come true, just remember who is gonna have to go because of salary cap yet alone for 7 long yrs I have back Alex Smith and this year was a very good year for him as we all could see. Alex needs targets to throw to, Veron Davis is great but we need more targets who can get open and catch the friggin ball. Crabtree is afaid to take a hit so yeh he covers up before he makes the catch let alone he is not even average at route running, the loss of Josh Morgan is huge, he could catch and run route’s good, the signing of Moss, well just Run Randy Run, guy can still catch the ball so. We need to see if we can get 1 more credible WR then maybe pick 1 up in the draft, but at pick 30 your better off going CB then finding a diamond in the rough in the 2nd and possible OL in the 3rd. Alex Smith is going to be better and more confident and more comfortable and for the 1st time in his career have the same offensive coordinator so he is gonna be able to improve on this system not start a new one so we need targets for him.

Thats fine, I would not have a problem with signing Peyton but still we should sign Alex Smith, I would take him as a back up all day long, but honestly i do not know how they would afford both. Also I think if Peyton does not sign with the niners its gonna play with Alex’s mind a little that they would do that after a good season.

With Manning at the helm and with a couple more offensive weapons and our returning defense, the 49ers could go undefeated and win the Super Bowl, which are two things I am sure both Manning and Harbaugh would like to add to their resumes.

I wish they would sign GINN……I want Ginn to play for the NIners! What a great player…..Not sure about Manning it would be a quick fix, not sure how much Manning’s body can handle being hit….. Dont get me wrong I think Manning is a great player and up standing guy but it would only be for a couple of years. We have Moss, who will run deep routes down the sidelines.

We have Crabtree, who will catch slants and be a short yardage possession receiver.

We have V-Davis, who can do it all.

We have Gore and Hunter, two all-purpose backs who can make plays out of the backfield.

We have Delanie Walker, who can do it all.

We have Sopoaga and Staley, who can catch AND run.

What we need next is a super s p e e d y WR who can rack up RAC (run after catch) yards with no regard for mankind. Wallace? Lloyd? Ginn? Manningham? I say Wallace, if he’s within budget. Otherwise, Lloyd might come to SF for cheap.

Add Peyton Manning to the mix, the NFL’s most feared defense, a top ranked special teams, and the genius of Harbaugh and what you get is a BONAFIDE Super Bowl contender.

    NINERS are back baby.

**Note to Alex Smith – you made me a believer last year young fella. But this is Peyton Manning we’re talkin ’bout here. At least you’ll be held in much higher regard than Steve Bono, Elvis Grbac, Tim Rattay, Shaun Hill, and maybe Jeff Garcia. Thanks for playing HARD for the fans.

In addition to our Defense and the fact that Peyton knows he has to OUTDO lil Eli in their own little family competition (what better way to prevent younger brother from getting another ring by playing in the same conference and playing for the team that pretty much beat Eli twice in 2011)…it’s a no-brainer why Manning should shed the blue and don the red for the rest of his career:

    1. Winning 49er tradition
    2. Some of the best restaurants IN THE WORLD.
    3. The Weather
    4. Marketability improves…his jersey would probably be the top seller
    5. More commercials…imagine a commercial with Manning, Montana, and Young.
    6. Another DYNASTY is forming. All Peyton has to do is follow the writing on the wall.
    7. Whenever MY Lakers are dominating the NBA, it’s only fitting that MY Niners do the same in the NFL.

    Food for Thought…

Peyton is just as competitive, if not more, than YOUNGER brother Eli.

Yes, Peyton loves his brother but I’m also sure there is a sibling rivalry there that even Archie probably won’t ever understand.

They’re both big time competitors. Eli has two rings, Peyton has one. Do you honestly think Peyton would want to play for an AFC team and want to have to face losing to younger brother Eli in a Super Bowl especially now that Eli is up on Peyton 2-1 in rings? What if Eli’s Giants defeat Manning’s Titans two years from now? Eli will forever be known as better than Peyton even though Peyton has better career statistics.

But if Peyton signs with San Francisco, he can come out on top. The Niners and Giants will probably face each other in the playoffs every year for the next three years. Peyton’s Niners would instantly be better than Eli’s Giants and Peyton can beat up on an old AFC if the Niiners can make it to the Big Dance. At the same time Eli can’t have a chance for a ring because Peyton’s Niners already defeated Eli’s Giants in the conference championship. If Eli wins a Super Bowl while Peyton is a Niner, Peyton can say “at least Eli didn’t be me in a Super Bowl game”

PEYTON is Golden Gate bound. I can already feel the Candlestick Winds guiding Bill Walsh’s spirit right into Peyton’s psyche in order to tell him what I just talked about above.

Now Faithful… please go to your local Chinese restaurant and order yourself some Chicken Fried Rice the day Peyton makes it official. Because if Peyton chooses the Broncos, the Chicken Fried Rice you’re about to eat will taste a lot better in your mouths. And then it’s back to Alex Smith we go, hoping he will follow the yellow brick road.

Enjoy the rest of your scarlet and gold summer.

    One last thing:

When Peyton came into the league as a rookie with the Colts, guess who he replaced at QB? You guessed it, Jim Harbaugh.

Now that Harbaugh is coach of the Niners, it’s only right that Peyton comes full circle to lead the team of the person he once succeeded.

Good night everybody and will someone please notify the equipment manager that we need to have a red #18 jersey all stitched up and ready to go by Monday.

7years,….where is all the Alex lovers that told us we were not Niners fans because we seen what Harbaugh seen?Harbaugh is a great manager he must make the player feel like they are the best so that they can perform the best. Harbaugh made lemonaid out of a lemon last year, this year we drink SUPERBOWL champagne! Peyton already has much money he and we want SUPERBOWLS! Then when he is done, CK will get us a few more,…? 10 SUPERBOWL RINGS? LOL!!!

or maybe,….Tom Condon is agent to both, but Alex is not getting any interests from other teams right now so he might just be holding out, instructed by Condon so that Peyton gets more interest/money. Peyton just might want more SB rings than money in that case Alex and Condon gets robbed? If Peyton wants the money, then Alex gets the deal he already said he likes, Peyton and Condon gets big bucks and they can both parent the Titans owner’s first born? Or maybe,…..This can all be another NFL.COM’s “Tebowism” marketing strategy? My wife loves Housewives of Orange County and I love Football Drama! Got my fingers crossed for Peyton in San Francisco. But none of us really knows for a few days!

Alex is ready to sign. The 49ers are holding out for Payton. I think the 49ers have a better shot at winning the SB signing Alex and adding another veteran wide receiver that just signing Payton. I hope the 49ers do sign Alex for the commitment and loyalty he has shown and giving them. I know Payton is the better QB, but Alex is more suited to run Harbaugh’s team offence. I think the team would want Alex back. The SB will feel more gratifying for the whole team. If you bring Payton, then it will belittle the rest of the teams efforts to win the SB.
Winning the SB needs to be a team win. Bringing Payton makes it a Payton win. Completely contradicts what Harbough stands for. Honestly it will be quit a disappointing story.
The 49ers will win the SB. I hope they choose the team concept rather than indvidule concept.

There are no Super Bowl guarantees EVEN WITH Peyton. But Peyton gives the Niners a better chance to win now.

Yes, Alex Smith had a great season. He had a career low in picks. But what if Alex reverts back to the old Smith next season? What if the defense isn’t as good statistically as it was last season and can’t put Smith in excellent field position that many times? What if Akers or Andy Lee get hurt and the replacement is not as good?

    In many ways, Akers saved Smith’s b u t t last season.

Yes, I appreciate what Smith did last year. He worked hard and fans saw results. Smith even improved on his accuracy and timing. He didn’t stay in the pocket as long although there were still numerous times he released the ball too late.

But he isn’t Peyton Manning. When the Niners had a chance to land Deion Sanders, they got him cuz they wanted to win now. Peyton is there for the taking and we will sign him if everything is on the up and up with his neck.

  100. By ChickenFriedRice on Mar 18, 2012 | Reply

Gore, Miller, Manningham, Moss, Crabtree, V-Davis, Walker

You need a 5-star quarterback to get the players I just mentioned to perform at MAX PEAK.

Peyton, not Alex, is the QB who can turn Vernon Davis into a Hall of Famer, extend Gore’s shelf life, and ensure that Moss doesn’t become a has-been bust.

Baalke and Harbaugh KNOW that having Peyton allows you to balance out the team’s running and p a s s i n g attack. With Smith, we are predictable on offense because we are forced to depend more on our run game.

Yeah KDB that is about the size of it. If not, Alex will be back and there will be open competition there (Jim’s own words).

I love the signing so far!! Looking forward to a great season!

Hermie that’s a non stater of an issue. Everything is fine as long as we keep winning, I don’t care who we have, I trust Harbaugh, but, if Alex comes back there won’t be an open competition, you are smarter than that, I think?

Alex is the only QB going to a new team for a reason. On a different note: KDB you are a true politician, you should run for presidency,…you will be the first Woman president! For everyone else on this blog,….respectively,… have a fantastic day!

Get the wideouts which we are doing, clean up the run game, we need another big back to help out. More O Line Keep the D and keep coaching well and Alex takes us to probably 2 Bowls in the next 4 years.

It is amazing at how fast we can forget about Alex Smith when Peyton Manning becomes a free agent. How fast some so called 49ers fans forget that Alex Smith helped the 49ers go 13-3. How fast they forget he threw the winning touchdown vs. the Saints oh yeah did you see how fast he can run down the field. I think Alex Smith should get another shot to see how far we can go with Alex Smith. Plus I think we should check out OLB Kamerion Wimbly. Thanks.

  133. By jrparker on Mar 19, 2012 | Reply

Well, we didn’t get Manning and it looks like Smith is off to greener pastures or so he thinks. I personally believe he is making a mistake. That leaves us with two quality second year QB’s in Kaepernick and Tolzien and I believe Tolzien will beat out Colin for the job with his accuracy and pocket awareness being the deciding factors. I wish Alex Smith all the best, but I believe we will do just fine without him or Manning.

  134. By jrparker on Mar 19, 2012 | Reply

Alex Smith is not an elite quarterback to demand elite pay. If he had shown the ability to improvise when we needed him to and to make all the throws on a consistent basis then I could see it. Alex would be nothing more then a quality back up or bench warmer on any club with an elite quarterback and the pay the 49er organization offered him reflected that.

Alex can not blame Niners or fans for trying to get Peyton. Peyton is out, so now it is Alex or CK or who ever takes the QB raines and the 2012 SF 49ers will be the team to beat. Alex should also understand that the 49ers were loyal THROUHOUT the NON productive years. Alex should note that the 49ers had made him a good offer BEFORE Peyton Place. So ALEX take this as a motivational opportunity, SIGN and WIN THE SUPERBOWL and show that we were wrong! I am sure you have a relative that you debt just a little, but you still love them!

  143. By Drakhanx4 on Mar 20, 2012 | Reply

I hope we don’t get that bum a$$ Randy Moss that played for The Oakland Raiders, and The Tennessee Titans. Randy Moss you really need to be productive for the 49ers.

I think they are both good and I think Collin has a huge upside but I think he will take some bumps and bruses that means picks, bad plays, etc. Not sure about Tolzine’s upside cause didn’t really see him play too much.

Given where this team is at Alex is by far our best option and a really good QB. With direction and weapons, he’s a top 10 QB in the NFL, merely my opinion but last year the numbers also suggested that as well.

Let’s hope ( and I think they will ) that the players we have gotten so far and the one’s that we are still going to get, show up like Alex and the other Free Agents did last year and we really could be really good over the next few years with this crop of payers.

    Talk at you later.

This is only my opinion and I’m no expert just love the Niners and the game and I like to see playersd get a fair shake and not hear a buch on BS from some Drunks that only spew emotion, know what I mean?

    Your thoughts rjd?

  145. By KDB on Mar 20, 2012 | Reply

rjd—also I hearing regular folks that hammer on Alex about the past when its CLEAR AS A BELL he needed a coach and weapons simply tells you that one, they don’t know enough and two, if they do they have a personal issue with him as our QB for whatever reason but it isn’t based in fact when you look at everything. Sure he was at fault of trying to live up to the number 1 as we all would have because that’s our reputation. But at some point peopkle that know the game of football backed off that criticism and so there you have it.

Now moving forward, Alex needs to play like the wind, and I truly think he will be even better this year BUT LET’S get the kid signed, remember he’s only 27.

Lastly–f he were to have a stint of bad games then the bench but I don’t see it if the rest of the team does their job.

Heck even Canm Newton had all pro wide outs and a very good o line. And yes, he’s good but it takes a team.

Broncos ain’t going to the Super Bowl, see what I’m saying.

Shockwaves were felt across the NFL landscape this morning.

Sean Payton, head coach of the New Orleans Saints, has been suspended for a full year for his role in the team’s player performance payment scandal. Subsequently, the team will forfeit second-round draft picks in 2012 and 2013. General Manager Mickey Loomis has also been suspended for eight games and former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, now with the St. Louis Rams, will be suspended indefinitely. ESPN senior analyst Chris Mortensen believes Williams will be out of football in 2012.

This matters especially to 49ers fans as the team moves up one spot in the second round of the 2012 draft and will face the Saints on the road in 2012 and the Rams twice next season.
