The San Francisco 49ers announced they have waived WR Dontavia Bogan.

Bogan originally signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent on July 27, 2011, out of the University of South Florida. He suffered a knee injury during training camp and was placed on the Injured Reserve List on August 7, where he remained for the balance of the 2011 season.

Morning Tailgate: March 30

Posted by Taylor Price on March 30, 2012 – 11:15 AM

The biggest takeaway from Carlos Rogers’ conversation with the Bay Area media on Thursday was the Pro Bowl cornerback’s astonishment over all 11 defensive starters returning to the 49ers in 2012.

“This is a first for me and I’m pretty sure it’s rare for a lot of guys,” Rogers said.

In fact, several media outlets analyzed the 49ers offseason efforts to retain its starting defense. More on San Francisco’s free agency scorecard and additional headlines can be found after the jump.

The 1984 49ers were edged ever so slightly in the semifinal round of the NFL’s Greatest Team of All-Time Tournament on Wednesday, but there’s still another way to support your favorite team through the power of voting.

Patrick Willis has advanced in the 2013 EA Madden video game cover tournament.

Willis defeated Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte (62-percent to 38-percent) in the opening round and once again faces a Pro Bowl running back.

This time around, Willis meets Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew in round two.

Morning Tailgate: March 28

Posted by Taylor Price on March 28, 2012 – 8:59 AM

Headlines from league owner meetings in Palm Beach, Fla., have dominated Wednesday’s morning news.

First, several rule changes were put in place for the 2012 season. Most notably, regular-season overtime will now be the same as it is currently in the postseason. Also, all turnovers will be subject to replay.

The league owners voted to make both changes. Now, regular-season overtime will end if a team scores a touchdown or a safety, but the game will not come to an end if a field goal is first scored on the opening possession. Say goodbye to sudden-death overtime in the regular season.

NFL Coach of the Year Jim Harbaugh also addressed the media and had some poignant comments about free agent addition Randy Moss.

More on Harbaugh’s comments and 49ers headlines can be found after the jump.

Ronnie Lott and his teammates from the 1984 San Francisco 49ers need your help.

Posted by Taylor Price on March 26, 2012 – 10:31 AM

Fresh off a weekend in the snow, 49ers.com has scooped up all the top headlines from the weekend.

If you missed our Celebrity Winter Fest updates from the weekend, there was plenty of money being raised for the 49ers Foundation. Players, coaches, general manager Trent Baalke and alumni traveled up to Lake Tahoe for the weekend to help out a great cause which aims to keep underprivileged kids safe, on track and in school.

One of the weekend’s noticeable attendees was recognized in another way by a respected football analysis site. More on that, important league news and other 49ers headlines can be found after the jump.

Though neither had ever been curling before, tight ends Delanie Walker and Nate Byham made a competition out of the curling tutorial at the 49ers Winter Fest.

Morning Tailgate: March 23

Posted by Taylor Price on March 23, 2012 – 9:52 AM

Thursday, March 22, 2012, might go down as one of the busiest days in 49ers.com history.

Where do we begin.

First, there was the announcement of former New York Giants wide receiver Mario Manningham signing a two-year contract with the 49ers, complete with a reveal of the top of Manningham’s contract.

Then, we attended the 2012 Stanford Pro Day to see potential No. 1 overall pick Andrew Luck perform in front of representatives from every NFL team. Luck even went out of his way to showcase the talents of his teammates who caught passes in his workout.

As soon as 49ers.com returned from Palo Alto, news broke out on two key free agency signings: we first reported wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. signing a one-year contract and later shared the news of quarterback Josh Johnson reuniting with his college coach Jim Harbaugh on a two-year contract.

And don’t forget about the team’s annual Celebrity Winter Fest. We sure didn’t. Scott Kegley filed his first report from Lake Tahoe where the team hopes to raise $1 million dollars at the team’s 12th annual charity event.

All that took place, and we profiled West Virginia linebacker Bruce Irvin in our “49 in 49” series.

Safe to say, it was a busy day.

And yet, there are still more 49ers-related headlines to check out after the jump.
