Morning Tailgate: Feb. 24

Posted by Taylor Price on February 24, 2012 – 6:25 AM

INDIANAPOLIS – The coffee is flowing and the media is entering the workroom at Lucas Oil Stadium. Pretty soon, the coffee will be running low and the line of reporters waiting for lunch sandwiches will be as long as the 40-yard dash itself.

How’s that for an intro. That’s the scene as of 8:45 this morning. In a matter of 30 minutes or so, the nation’s best quarterbacks, running backs and receivers will start filling in for their meet and greets with the national media.

If you missed any of our Thursday coverage at the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine, don’t fret. You can read all the latest info and check out our videos at 49ers.com/combine.

More 49ers and combine headlines can be found after the jump.

Executive of the Year Trent Baalke conducted a brief interview with the Bay Area media in town for the combine. In his discussion, Eric Branch of The San Francisco Chronicle highlights the key points of the discussion which centered on the 49ers franchise tag and free agency decisions.

Baalke’s podium transcript, as well as the podium transcript from coach Jim Harbaugh was posted by Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com shares Baalke’s opinions on San Francisco’s depth at quarterback. According to Baalke, it’s not a focus of need for the 49ers because the team is “comfortable” with the younger guys on the roster, Colin Kaepernick and Scott Tolzien.

For more on quarterback depth, that being the top quarterbacks at the NFL combine, Nancy Gay of Foxsports.com shares Harbaugh’s opinions on the premier signal callers: Andrew Luck of Stanford and Robert Griffin III of Baylor.

Sam Farmer of The Los Angeles Times highlights Harbaugh’s media session and writes that the 49ers coach is the “consummate insider” in this year’s NFL Draft.
