The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed LS Ryan Pontbriand to a one-year contract.

Pontbriand (6-2, 255) was selected in the fifth round (142nd overall) by the Cleveland Browns in the 2003 NFL Draft. Selected to the Pro Bowl in 2007 and 2008, he played in 134 games with the Browns before being released on 11/29/11.

What is the deal with Brian Jennings? Where did he go? Or did he retire or what?

Hmmm this could mean we might be using Jennings as TE trade bait.

While on the subject of signing free agents, could we take a close look at Tolbert (HB) from San Diego? I know our backs are fantastic, but doesn’t hurt to look for more.

We need recievers not long snappers

We need the peices to complete a puzzle, if they signed a LS then there is a reason. I know we need WR, but coach and balke will find the right guys, just have faith…Right now im sure they are working deals to keep our DB’s in place, and securing Alex. Im sure once that is complete they will pick and choose good players from the draft or even free agency…Look at who they chose last year, Dante, Carlos, Hawk…Unfortunantly Frank is not going to be good for too many more years, we have Kendal but we need another down hill runner like frank…I have faith in the staff and they will find the diamonds that we need…GO NINERS

C’mon guys……give the staff a little credit! we didnt go from being a 6-10 team to an eventual apperance in the nfc champ game by accident! Let these guys do their jobs and get the talent and we can do ours by being happy and cheering for our team no matter what and not critisizing (my spelling sucks)!

Ohhh…. This is the answer to all of our wr and cb problems, a long snapper. I cant wait to see this guy in action next year. F**** YEAH!!! Im so excited, and I just can hide it!!!! Wow this is the best long snapper in the league, hells yeah. Super bowl here we come.

    Sincerely ,

(Hopefully we’ll start hearing better news, like signing an actual player that can actually make a difference)

yes, by signing a long snapper for the future in a good deal. But , we must get a consistant quarterback as well. Don’t get me wrong, i’m a die hard 49ers fan. But i’m also realistic. This has been the m.o. of Mr smith for a long time. Choke a gag during the big game. 8for 29, for how many yards

i’m fine with this move if anything he can be used for depth and he has expirence doing it on the pro level

    Long snapper of the future?
    1. he only got a one year contract
    2. he is 32 years old.

They must think he can contribute on ST… maybe join the Tony Montana Squad.

WAR Brian Jennings. WAR ASU WAR 49ERS.

Pontbriand isn’t exactly in the prime of his career so I don’t quite understand why we signed him (to a 1 year deal no less). He’s not really going to be around long enough to be Jennings replacement for any length of time, in his 9th season. It is pretty impressive that he made the Pro Bowl twice with the Browns. No offense to the Browns or their fans, but Cleveland hasn’t exactly been setting the world on fire in any phase of the game and when a player (especially a lineman) on a struggling team gets recognition, they are doing something right. But, after last season with Harbaugh, I trust the decisions of our front office and staff again……FINALLY!

My guess is it’s just a move to create competition in training camp. Harbaugh wants competition at every positition, including long snapper.

Well everyone that is saying what, why and whatever else, Brian Jennings is great yes we know, but he is also old and obviously our mastermind in Brad Seeley saw something in this kid when he coached at Clevelend. Lets also mention this “nobody who we signed for no reason” can sit behind Brian and watch and learn so when Brians carreer is done we have a valuable player too step right in. This kid not to mention has been too 2 probowls so lets be happy. Niners in the Superbowl next season.

it sad how we pick up players we don’t need. we are in need of a qb and have been for years. alex smith isn’t a threat in the nfl he throws balls to the ground alot he don’t move the chains. i was very shocked to see the d stand up because we’ve been disappointing for years. 49ers please get some wr’s

Don’t know how anyone can question the decision making or decision making process of this coaching staff they obviously know what they are doing and what they want they took a team that was 6 and 10 the previous year ALL THE WAY TO THE NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME DONT KNOW WHAT MORE WE COULD ASK FOR SO HOW ABOUT A LITTLE MORE SUPPORT FOR WHAT OUR BOYS ARE DOIN GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!
