Women in Sports Forum a Success

Posted by Alex Espinoza on November 14, 2011 – 6:48 PM

After nearly two hours of listening to an impressive panel talk about women’s roles in professional sports, college students and 49ers fans in attendance couldn’t get enough.

Members of the San Francisco 49ers front office teamed with some of their corporate partners to provide unique insights into life in the National Football League last week in Palo Alto.

The Stanford Graduate School of Business’s Sports Management Club hosted a panel featuring professional women in sports, a program designed to enlighten the public about career opportunities in the sports industry. This joint effort between the 49ers and Stanford was part of the team’s marketing programs for women and was provided free of charge. Nearly 250 people packed a large auditorium-style classroom at the Knight Management Center on the Stanford campus Wednesday night.

Hannah Gordon, Director of Legal Affairs, Joanne Pasternack, Community Relations/49ers Foundation Director, and Ali Towle, Director of Marketing, represented the 49ers. They were joined by women executives from corporate partners e2K, KNBR Radio, SF Gate, Stanford Hospital and Rambus.

The event was moderated by Emmy Award winning sports journalist Andrea Kremer, who flew in from the East Coast to participate in this event. Kremer has covered the NFL for more than 20 years, working for NFL Films, ESPN, NBC Sports and HBO’s Real Sports series.

“It was great to see so many vibrant, young women at this event,” said Kremer. “This panel was fantastic and really brought a lot of great energy and excitement for their professions.  The crowd really fed off that and made great connections with the panelists. The 49ers deserve a lot of credit for putting this together.”

After the event concluded, dozens of audience members stayed to chat one-on-one with Kremer and the panelists, seeking career advice, sharing their own experiences and expressing gratitude.

49ers Total Access and 49ers Total Access for Kids covered the event and will feature the forum in upcoming episodes.

49ers To Start Women’s Fan Club

As part of the expanded women’s marketing program, the 49ers announced the creation of a women’s football fan club.

The club will provide members special access to the 49ers organization, including invitation-only programs and behind the scenes opportunities to learn more about the inner workings of an NFL franchise. The fan club will create opportunities to network and interact with other female 49ers fans.

The first task will be to select a name for the new club. The 49ers have created a contest and are asking female fans to submit their entries online: Women’s Fan Club Naming Contest. The person with the winning idea will be awarded bragging rights and 49ers merchandise.

You already a name….The Ladies of the Empire….hello. You have already started marketing towards women and I feel it’s necessary and a great idea. But lets not regress…The Ladies of the Empire is in effect.

Your commercial about The Ladies Of The Empire led me to believe you already have a ladies fan club. It seems to me you should capitalize on what you have already started instead of recreating the wheel. Synergy of energies.

The Ladies of the Empire came together from a group formed on Facebook by our “coach” Catherine Tate and we were featured in commercials, documentaries and billboard print ads for the 49ers ad campaign this year! I love the fan club idea also but it already exists and was created by loyal dedicated women 49er fans that love the game of football. Let’s give credit where credit is due. THE LADIES OF THE EMPIRE.

I agree with Catherine Tate!! It is already named “The Ladies of The Empire!”. Thank you, Catherine for starting it.

What is the point of creating a “NEW” female fan club for the 49ers?? You have one “Ladies of the Empire” we came out over the summer and took part in the 49ers ad campaign.. Are you going to discount now all the hard work that Catherine Tate put in to bring us out there? This is not a new idea…. It has been done and it has taken off… Thank you Catherine Tate for creating this and making me a part of it!!!! You are the original Lady of the Empire and a true Niner fan!!

Looks like a blitz from the Empire Strikes Back! The Ladies of The Empire is a poor choice in name. You could certainly keep the group together but a rebranding and new name that has more connection to the 49ers would help immensely.

I think of Star Wars or New York’s famous building or political speak – the Evil Empire of whomever threatens the USA at the time.

How about using some related words – gold (women like gold), super bowl (we have 5 of em) to get started…

    Super Gold Daughters

I agree with the all of the comments “Ladies of the Empire” is the original 49er women only fan site and I feel like to directly link it soley to the 49er organization they could do a spin off it such as
“Ladies Of The NINER or 49er Empire”. As for the 5 superbowls thats nice but what about when we get the 6th do we then change the clubs name next season???? LADIES OF THE 49er EMPIRE has a nice ring to it.
