49ers Call for Red Out

Posted by Alex Espinoza on September 13, 2011 – 12:55 PM

When the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys get together, great things happen.

The long-time NFL rivals, who have won a combined 10 Super Bowls and faced each other in six NFC championship games, renew their series on Sunday at Candlestick Park at 1:05 p.m. It will be the first meeting between the two teams at Candlestick Park since 2005.

Fans entering the stadium will receive free 49ers flags courtesy of game sponsor Ticketmaster, the Official Ticket Exchange of the NFL.

The 49ers and Cowboys met in one of the greatest NFC Championship games ever played 30 years ago at Candlestick Park. That historic game ended on a play simply known as “The Catch,” a Joe Montana to Dwight Clark touchdown pass with 58 seconds remaining to give the 49ers a 28-27 victory. The 49ers went on to beat the Cincinnati Bengals for their first of five Super Bowl titles. Clark has been selected as the honorary captain for this Sunday’s game. He and his teammate from that great team, Dwight Hicks, will sign autographs at the Verizon Gate starting at 11:30 a.m.

The 49ers Faithful are invited to remember that game and celebrate this great NFL rivalry by creating a “Red Out” at Candlestick Park. Fans are asked to show their team pride and turn “The Stick” into a sea of red. New 49ers gear is available this week at a 15% online discount through SHOP49ERS.COM. Use the special code REDOUT11 (offer valid through Sept. 18).

To honor the 1981 championship season, fans will be treated to an 80’s nostalgia theme. Legendary rock band Cheap Trick will perform the national anthem. Cheap Trick has sold over 20 million albums, has 29 movie soundtrack credits and produced such great hits as “I Want You to Want Me,” “Surrender,” “The Flame” and “The Dream Police.”

An 80’s music medley will be performed at halftime by local band Wonderbread 5. Gold Rush will wear 80’s throwback uniforms during their performances and fans with the best 80’s costumes will win prizes in the Grand Plaza during pregame festivities.

Fans are also invited to participate in the Children’s Books Community Drive sponsored by U.S. Bank. Books will be accepted at the gates of Candlestick Park before the game.

The Safeway Game Day Experience for the ultimate free VIP tailgating experience will take place prior to the game. The Safeway Game Day Experience is an 18,000-square-foot party featuring a 3D sports den, media room airing live football games from across the country, Safeway food and beverages, games and prizes. Safeway Game Day Experience is free and open to fans of all ages beginning at 10 a.m. in the north parking lot of Candlestick Park near the Verizon Gate.

The 49ers opened the 2011 season with a thrilling 33-17 win over NFL West rival Seattle last Sunday.

Tickets for the Dallas game are available via Ticketmaster.com in the following ways:

  • Season tickets that include Dallas and all remaining home games.  Purchase season tickets at 49ers.com or by calling the 49ers directly at 415-GO-49ERS (464-9377.)
  • A limited number of single game tickets will be periodically released this week for purchase through Ticketmaster.  Tickets may be purchased at Ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000.

I was at the Jets/Cowboys game last Sunday and all the cowgirl fans were in shock!! It was great…one of the best games!! Walking out of the stadium everybody was shouting “Tony…Romo” It was so awesome. I hope the 9ers can kick some butt. All of you at the game need to ride “Tony” and make it hard for him. He chokes in the clutch!!

I thought Harbough would “Go for 2 points” at the end of the game just to help Pete Carol remember the last time they both met in College LOL. That would have been priceless LOL

    Please don’t beat my team! I’m scared….

Do we even have anyone that can cover that 6’5″ Bryant? He made both cromarty and Revis look silly in the Jets game and they are the best in the business. I hope Justin Smith, Raye McDonald and company will bring the heat on their rookie O line, cause if they don’t, Romo, even with his mistakes, will have a field day using Bryant and Witten on our secondary. I hope Coach Vic unleashes the pain in the blitzing schemes and puts pressure on Romo in the pocket all day long. I also hope Harbough will change up the play calling a bit. If you want to run it five times, fine, but use a sweep or mis-direction, not 5 dives in a row, come on, that’s not attacking, everyone knew where they were going to run it. The mis-direction looked nice in the 1st qrt, but we never went back to it. I don’t get that. It’s not my job to stop my offense, it’s the defenses, so keep running the darn play til they can prove they can stop it, instead running the same play they are proving they can stop (Dive). Don’t be afraid to run play action on the goal line, role out Smith. There is not much room in the endzone, so when you are on the goal line and they are stuffing the dive, please feel free to try something, anything different. Davis and Edwards are playmakers too, let them have a go, I respect Gore, but sometimes the D is centering on him, they know he’s going to get it. It’s just like boxing, you hit them with a left when they are expecting a right, doesn’t have to be fancy, just do something ELSE.

Iv’e been a Niner fan since I can remember (60s) I want to see Jerry Jones on the sideline at the end of the game rooting for his team only to see them get there butts kicked all over . Defence. Keep them from coming into our side of the field. GO 49ers.

  34. By JohnK on Sep 14, 2011 | Reply

Your right about ESPN. I now live in Florida and they give the 49ers no respect. NO west coast team gets any. ESPN is a biased sports network for the East coast. But we will show them WEST IS BEST.

Is it too late to throwback alex smith? maybe bring back more of the 80’s, like ’88 Niners.

  37. By Ojay Wood on Sep 14, 2011 | Reply

That was a good win, but it should’ve been a blow out. Back to business though the boys is coming in town. I think we should play a cover2, until Dallas can prove that they can run the ball on us and we should open up our offense and attack their secondary also. We have to many weapons Crabtree, Edwards, Davis, Morgan and Ginn Etc. How about that! GO NINERS

I am too unfortunatly from Houston Texas 9HELL), and am moving soon to El Paso, hopes theres more niners fans than here in Cowbilly land. I was planning on going to this game but given this economy I haved to miss it and I am bummed beyond belief, was gonna go, but I will definitly be there in 5 years or less when we play again, and next season to a regular game. This is the game though, I have a huge hatred fopr the Cowbillys, always since my high school days, I was the only 49ers fan wearing a starter Jacket when 90% of the school was wearing there Cowbilly jeresey camo ball cap and all, it was Hell, but I loved rubbing it in there faces I was a fan for life!! I hope we win this game by sa large number, like everyone says, the Cowbillys fans down here will realize who we are and that we are for real!!! The Cowbillys fans are arrogant down here, very like the people!

I have been a forty-niner fan for about thirty years know and will die a forty-niner fan. Most of my family was have switched teams due to thier long 8 year losing streak. Heck I have a brother that switched to the cowboys. Talk about traitor, I don’t even talk to him anymoe (lol). I hate the cowgirls I dont care I we go 2-14 just as long as we don’t lose to those scum-buckets. Niners-4-life.

I fully support all ticket holders to attend or let the money go. I was at the ’05 game and it’s a sad day when the visiting fans are as many and as loud as the home team. And to those two lame-o Cowboy fans–it was my wife who snatched those stupid arrows out of your Cowboy hats without either of you realizing. Gooooo, Niners! This game just might get me out to the stick cause I hate the cowboys that bad.
