New Tailgating Policies for Candlestick

Posted by Alex Espinoza on September 9, 2011 – 11:41 AM

The San Francisco 49ers would like to remind their Faitfhful fans of a few changes to tailgating and parking at Candlestick Park for the 2011 season. The organization’s top priority is to provide a safe, friendly environment for fans to enjoy 49ers football.

Please take note of the new policy changes, which will be in effect for this season. Thank you for your cooperation.

New Policies for Tailgating/Parking at Candlestick Park:

  • Tailgating will no longer be permitted during or after kickoff.  Any fans loitering in the lot after the beginning of the game will be asked to either get into the game, or to leave the lot.
  • The parking lot will not open to the general public any earlier than four hours prior to kickoff (9 a.m. for this Sunday).
  • Police will be patrolling and citing any cars that stage outside the parking gates before they are opened.
  • Fans are urged to take public transit or carpool, as Sunday is expected to be a very heavy traffic day in the San Francisco area. Click here for more information regarding transit and traffic.

Sounds reasonable, but can we still tailgate some after the game?

Tailgating sounds like a good idea after the game to lighten traffic and sober up before hitting the road!

“tailgating will no longer be permitted during or after kickoff”. Consider this, after the game is after kickoff. Not to hard to understand.

I just need to get this straight. We can’t even start lining uip to get in before the gates open??? We are making a 3hr drive to attened this game. My 10yr old son begged me. If we happen to get there say around 8:30am we will be cited just for lining up to get in when the gates open?? That is how this reads.

I understand what happened after the Raider game was horrible. I don’t think there is no way you can control that from happening. That can easily happen in traffic while waiting to leave the coliseum. Here’s an idea, instead of spending all this time enforcing these ideas, why not come up with an idea to make traffic a lot less congested. Maybe that won’t force us to want to tailgate after the game instead of waiting in a parking lot for 3 hrs.

What about those RV tailgating in the side lots where most would never go into the game? or The RV lot across from the stadium? Our company does one anual tailgate party where half have tickets but the other half stay out and watch the game. What is the policy for RV because they would be allowed to park the night before the game.

I.’m def. With on this one. That’s a big part why A LOT of fans come to the games for. I know people who have tickets who ALWAYS tailgate though the game. I honestly believe this will reduce attendace after time. Depending on how it goes. I’m hoping for the bright side, for all the fans to not let this affect there decision too come out and support the team resulting in the stands being filled for the “12 man” factor. Really bring that stadium alive during it’s final years thats what our teams needs! Faithful Support!

Have sent 3-4 e-mails regarding Preferred Parking problems. We are 30 year Season Ticket & Preferred Parking holders. In the Preferred lot, about half of the people routinely take 2-3 spaces for BBQ’s, Liquor etc. making it EXTREMELY difficult for other Preferred people to even find a Single space without a confrontation. Please advise that you have a PLAN to solve this problem and Police the Preferred area to monitor the problem and advise these selfish people that they are only entitled to ONE Preferred spot. Thank you ! K. Dorwin

Why are we punishing all the tailgaters? We have been tailgating for years, always go in to watch the games, and now find we don’t have enough time to set up and take down, mostly due to the parking lot opening later than before. The loyal, long time 49ers tailgaters are not the problem. Stop punishing us.

Go 9ers this should be an far out season…Kendall Hunter looks strong and Frank Gore will show out I’m sure. What about Kaepernick? Let him play he can become seasoned like it’s OJT [on the job training]..

I think they need to outlaw bringing any alcohol into the parking lot period! People can still have a good time tail gaiting w/o having to get drunk before the game. Drinking only enhances one man’s ability to think straight. Plus liquid courage turns men into macho idiots! Maybe the concession stands need to lower the price of beer so it’s more affordable during the game and limit a person to only 2 drinks per game with some type of drink ticket.

I think it’s GREAT it keeps the Dirt Bags to a minimum and THEY (The Dirt Bags) are the one’s who ruin things for everyone.

They are also the igits and I spelled that how I wanted to who Boo their own players and TEAM. Real Fans NEVER BOO your own, PERIOD. Unless they do something way beyond the game but in simple terms about playing, etc., YOU NEVER BOO YOUR PLAYERS, PERIOD and the DIRT BAGS are the one’s at games that do, I know, I’ve been there plenty.

We have grown so much in so little time, due to increase of police/security even the parking lot did not smell like a marijuana field. The Stick returns

Sorry to hear you guys can’t tailgate like before cause of a few hoodlums, but on the bright side you guys won’t be puking your guts out from stuffing your faces when dallas goes in there and whoops that Red and Gold into a few shades of Purple and Blue….

I do not thik it is fair to not permit smoking as it has always been permitted!! The guys who started the NFL were big cigar smoking beer drinknig Fans who loved the game!!

  28. By Alex on Sep 16, 2011 | Reply

My issue is with the 4 hours prior to game time. Its crap what you guys are doing to the tailgaters who get out there early. I also don’t appreciate you guys using a photo from the Club 49 Tailgate crew that I am a part of, as a poster for your new rules.

It stinks that this whole thing is being brought on us niner’s faithful. The unfortunate events at the battle of the bay game were because of those damn raider’s fans. Most don’t have respect for themselves let alone others. Have they considered just banning tailgating for that game – if it ever happens again. And to respond to the suggestion to ban alcohol. Little extreme I think. How about a section of one lot that is an “alcohol free zone” for those that want to tailgate without others around them consuming alcohol.

Wow… pretty sad. As a MN native but 49er first, I will be making my first trip from MN to the stick this season only to hear the tail gating restrictions now placed on what is such a popular an vital component of the total fan experience.

    Disappointing!
