49ers Sign FB Corcoran

Posted by Taylor Price on July 30, 2011 – 11:20 AM

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Saturday they have signed FB Jack Corcoran to a three-year deal.

Corcoran (6-1, 235) originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Houston Texans in 2010. He spent training camp with the Texans and was released on the September 4. Corcoran was signed to the Tennessee Titans practice squad on September 14 and was released on October 5.

The 24-year old native of Hammonton, NJ, Corcoran starred collegiately at Rutgers, where he was a teammate of 49ers T Anthony Davis.

Corcoran will wear jersey No. 43.

Yawn, yawn. I guess we aren’t going to get any FA’s that might actually help right now. Trent are you awake?

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME A FULLBACK WAS THE DIFFERENCE MAKER? UMMM NEVER OPEN UP THE WALLET AND PAY SOME PLAYERS SO WE CAN COMPETE!! I GOT AN IDEA LETS JOIN THE PAC-12 THEN MAYBE WE WILL WIN SOME GAMES.

  7. By John Kreutzmann on Jul 30, 2011 | Reply

I see no effort by the 49er front office to acquire a FA that can make a difference.
You are losing more good players especially on defense. Teams like the Eagles and Patriots know how to get it done like the Niners of the 80’s. The Niners of today are lagging way behind. None of the teams needs have been addressed. Even a great coach like Jim Harbaugh needs good players to be successful.

  8. By Brandon on Jul 30, 2011 | Reply

We are making no kind of splash in the free agency. Our best sign was a kicker so far, and a couple of re signs, but the bad thing is we can’t even re sign the players who make a difference for our team.

  9. By KEN BARKER on Jul 30, 2011 | Reply

You did great by getting Harbaugh as head coach. I think he will do a great job. The draft was pretty good but what the ( blank ) is going on now? Everyone in our division is picking up players that have experence and that are good. Granted we got david akers one of the best kickers in the game but he cant score all the points. Come on we need more help and yes I know management knows it to so lets get it done. You know a lot of fans miss the good old days when we won alot of games each year. Please do something

  10. By FM on Jul 30, 2011 | Reply

Thats full back number 3. I believe we still need an outside linebacker, middle linebacker, multiple corners, a safety, d-linemen, center, one or two veteran receivers, and a speedy running back, not to forget that crabtree is out 4-6 weeks, and frank gore is holding out. If i recall correctly the 49er fan base has been told we will not be big players in free agency. Also that our team is right on track. On track for another loosing season and on track for a new coaching staff. Jim and Trent need to do something for the fans and possibly job security.

what the hell are we saving money for, free gifts for the fans? my hope is with the coach. all of the fa”s are gone. c’mon jed talk dad into letting Eddie have the team. the faithfuls are down to faith….

the 49ers are building a team of 49ers.. guys who came up in the organization.. i know it seems strange in this day of trades and free agency.. but if your team is homegrown and grows together.. the moving parts are going to work together smoothly..

I cannot believe this is the 49ners. why are we not trying to compete? why are w e throwing the season? come on man! get some good players, what we have will not get it.

This is complete BULL. why the hell is it so hard to sign someone? It’s because the YORKS are complete RETARDS no one wants to play for the organziation.

This kid is a hard worker and will be a fan favorite for years to come.. All of you haters out there check back once the season is over and frank gore leads the league in rushing. This kid is going to clear the way for gore. He also has amazing hands out of the backfield..

  24. By Chris on Jul 30, 2011 | Reply

I understand we need a FB behind Norris but we need to focus on getting Gore a contract first. We also need to focus on getting a CB to replace Clements, while everyone was fighting for Nnambi we could have gone under the radar for Jonathan Joesph, or even Chris Carr, now we are too late.

We also need a WR to help out while Crabtree is on PUP. I’m glad we have a sit down with Plaxico but if we couldn’t intrigue Ochocinco how are we going to intrigue Plaxico? He has no ties with any of the coaching staff or players? Jets haven’t signed Braylon Edwards, Sydney Rice is still there, I doubt the Eagles are going to be able to afford Desean Jackson after their moves they did, I’m sure we could try to get a trade out of him. Let’s step it up guys!

  25. By Drew on Jul 30, 2011 | Reply

Apparently the 49ers are not interested in competing this season seeing how they have only created more holes in the roster and the only one filled was signing David Akers. This will end up hurting their chances of a new stadium seeing as how fans don’t wanna pay for tickets to see crap on the field let alone on tv. Also, I doubt there will even be enough players in camp to have actual competition to get a roster spot

A three year deal???? He was released by two teams last year. WTF is going on?

  29. By Coach Mike on Jul 30, 2011 | Reply

Corcoran can play. Yeah he is not going to take the 49ers to the S.B. but he will be a starting F.B. in the NFL. . You guys IMO have had a couple good drafts & were just poorly coached. This kid is a perfect fit in the 49ers new O. He is a Harbaugh type guy. Give him a chance. You may have gotten a piece to your puzzle.
I would love to see Raiders Mike Bush & Braylon Edwards in San Fran. Maybe trade for Samuals if the Eagles move him.

  32. By Jose on Jul 30, 2011 | Reply

As long as the York family owns the 49ers we will never have a winning team because there cheap and they can’t keep or sign players.

  33. By Joe on Jul 30, 2011 | Reply

The 49ers have bigger needs than a FB, what about a new QB? Why would the 49ers resign Alex Smith? I really hope the Yorks sell the team, they care less for the fans or if the team wins!

Jim Harbaugh: You’re being SET UP! Enjoy your short stay in SF, because the front office is dealing you a weak team. Guess who the front office will blame? Sorry Jim ~ Wow, the Patriots’ front office wants to WIN!

Why are the 49er Faithful so stop being so negative support your team we will get where we want to be just takes time cant you see 49ers are starting fresh building a Team startiing with a QB and fresh D and Fresh O lines. No we arent going to playoffs thios year and no namdi would not have taken us there or any other 1 player alone SF needs alot of work and has needed Harbough is fixing singletarys mistakes releasing old worn out usless players who were over paid and didnt fit what HE is trying to do so relax we. What did you expect him to come in year one and take us to playoffs???? BE REALISTIC

It’s sad that the coaching staff salaries are greater than the players! Team has consistently been in a downward spiral since Ed Jr. got caught up! The Yorks are flat out worthless when it comes to taking care of the team’s needs!

49ers front office got me so upset the last couple years fireing coachs and doing a bunch of nothing. Then we finally get a chance to sign some play makers in free agency and what do we do??????Nothing surprizeing….NOTHING as usual. Its not the coaching its the front office not makeing moves.Come on now if we signed Orton and Edwards and maybe a corner, u dont think we would win this below averge divsion. But nooo we sign Alex again.I dont even care if Orton doesnt know the playbook to weeks before a game, Alex can’t get it done we know that…….Our front office is either dumb or cheap

  46. By Thor on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

well, once again the 49ers front office is sitting back and letting the cream of free agency get signed.saving money to re-sign current players who just arent going to get where we need to go due to way too many changes in coaching philosophies.systems need to be repetative in order to achive sucess.the front office wont take chances with free agent singings to spot fill the roster,,blah,,,blah,,,blah,,,for 7-8 years now i’ve seen the,,” lets build a strong running game,,play great defense and win the division,,team builds,,,umm hello,,,not working,,please front office help give coach harbaugh the players and coaches he needs,,,like asking former great players to come and help if they will,,why is bryant young a defensive line coach at notre dame?,,why does ronnie lott address the saint right before we play them?,,why hasnt joe montana shown up at one single training camp??couldnt you ask jerry rice to come and help mentor these young talented players??,,,the truth is,,,all the players in the NFL are great players,,,its up to the coaching staff to help get players to play above their talent level,,coach harbaugh will be hard pressed to win the division with the current level of talent on this team unless he can get them to play above themselves,,good luck coach harbaugh and hey,,,if it all goes bad this season,,,at least we will be in the andrew luck sweepstakes,,,

So, I guess the fans that come to the games wearing a 49ers jersey will be asked to play and fill in the holes to our team? What is going on in the front office? I realize Baalke spoke of not really going big this offseason. But come on man! Seems like the whole division knows how to spend money these days and sign free agents, except the 49ers! Sign somebody! Us fans are VERY hungry for some W’s!!!! Matter of fact, we’re starving for some!! Front office better do something and something quick! Because I can here the commish now…..With the 1st pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, The San Francisco 49ERS select…………

The boy king and baalke have a plan they said so. Be patient things will get worse. It’s to bad goodel can’t step in and take the team from yorks. Neither one of them should have anything to do with nfl.

  50. By joey S on Aug 1, 2011 | Reply

Cromartie is signed now with the Jets, but I kind of like the approach of not signing another CB with a huge contract. That didn’t work out so great with Clements — it feels like every WR highlight I see has him being burned. But I agree we need a CB, maybe a mid-level free agent like Brent Grimes or Chris Houston. Then maybe we could sign a mid-to-high level receiver like Malcom Floyd.

Glad to see Gore back in and hopefully Aubrayo will re-up too.

This free agent time has been worst of all. All of us FAITHFULLS sitting around watching every team make moves to better them selves in hopes we sign pieces to a very bad puzzle. We have hope shattered once again by an organization who refuses to be faithful to the fans and pride of a great organization. I can not believe what I have seen. What hope can us fans have looking forward. This is a kick in the face and I will not be spending my money to watch a team play that has a front office that does’nt want to win. Here’s to another long year of disapointment and frustration. R.I.P.

I’ll bet not one of you whiners knows a thing about Corcoran. Yet, you absolutely trash the guy. Now I can see why fans of other teams call ours “The Forty Whiners”. BL is the Niners coaching staff knows the kind of players they want…and until it’s proven the guys Baalke and his staff are acquiring can’t do the job, then maybe you should just give them a freakin’ chance.

I would listen to Rathman- when it comes to fullbacks fitting into this offense- than a fan looking to sign big names.

Rathman just might know a little bit about it- just maybe…….

Hey all you WHINERS . Ihave seen this kid play in high school. He led a Catholic School in Hammonton, NJ to 4 State Titles in a row. Was state wrestling champ at 215 pounds. Was a starter at Rutgers and blocked for Ray Rice who is the premier runner for the Ravens. This kid can also catch out of the backfield. Google him and you will see a catch he made in a bowl game. This kid is not chopped liver. He has stayed in great shape and is catching on as an undrafted player. So if you know nothing about him , lighten up.
