The San Francisco 49ers announced on Thursday that they have signed QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson.
Bethel-Thompson (6-4, 230) signed with the San Jose Sabercats of the Arena Football League in the spring of 2011, and he appeared in 12 games and completed 20 of 43 pass attempts for 220 yards, three touchdowns and one interception this past season.
He played three seasons at Sacramento State after transferring from UCLA, appearing in 25 games (5 starts). In 2010, he played in 5 games, completing 21 of 38 pass attempts for 161 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Bethel-Thompson played in all 11 games (2 starts) in 2009, seeing action at quarterback in six games. He completed 64 of 110 pass attempts for 746 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions. As a sophomore, Bethel-Thompson played in four games (two starts) and completed 28 of 49 pass attempts for 415 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He began his collegiate career at UCLA, playing in five games (one start). He redshirted in 2006.
Bethel-Thompson, a 23-year old native of San Francisco, CA, attended Balboa High School and lettered in football for three seasons (2003-05), earning first-team all-city, player of the year, and all-metro honors after throwing for 2,100 yards and 22 touchdowns as a senior.
