Willis Ranked No. 23 on NFLN Top 100

Posted by Taylor Price on June 20, 2011 – 10:41 AM

Regarded by many as one of the NFL’s best defensive players, 49ers four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Patrick Willis was officially ranked as the game’s No. 23 overall player according to NFL Network’s Top 100 Players of 2011.

Willis’ segment which aired this past Sunday, featured several remarkable highlights from the linebacker’s impressive career as well as a presentation from linebacker Takeo Spikes.

“Patrick does all the ordinary things, extraordinarily well,” Spikes said.

“He never slows down to think about what he’s accomplished in the past. It’s always, ‘What can I do to get better.’”

In four seasons, Willis has totaled 737 tackles, 15.0 sacks, eight forced fumbles, four interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

After Willis’ inclusion on the list was revealed, the humble star went to Twitter to let everyone know his thoughts on the ranking.

Willis became the third 49ers player to make NFLN’s Top 100 rankings. Running back Frank Gore was ranked No. 94. Tight end Vernon Davis came in at No. 88.

Where do you think Willis ranks? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

I think he should have been higher then this. There is no way that Ray Lewis should have been higher then him on this list. This was best players of 2011 right?

Willis is a top 10 talent, but like all sports at all levels total team performance helps decide rankings. Once the 49ers reclaim their destined power-house status again now that we have a real coach, we will see lots of our stars making and taking top positions in similar ranking lists.

Frank Gore deserves to be way high than 94. He had 4 1000 yard rushing seasons in a row. VD tied the record for most TD’s by a TE in 2009, hes higher than that too. The way this top 100 is going Fitzgerald should be #1.

I would have to agree with John M. The only reason Lewis is still ahead of WIllis is because of how the Niners finished this year. It is BS but we live in a society based on winning… I think Frank got screwed worse than any player on this list from our roster. Gore is easily in the Top 50. He is the most complete running back in the NFL.

WOW…Talk about getting pulled way back when you know your #5 in the NFL or that’s what i think…he should atleast been #1-5 he is really that good and for others so called “good players” are rank ahead of him ..all i can say is WOW my team got the worst SNUBBED of all..Gore got it as well to..

obviously, being a 49er fan, i believe that Pat should be a top 10 selection. He burst onto the scene running over running backs, sacking quarterbacks, and running down wide receivers, and he hasn’t slowed down through strained muscles and broken bones. He is always around the ball, every single play, and whenever the offense gives the ball back to the other team, I feel comfortable knowing that Pat is on the field. Living in WA makes it hard to talk with all the Shehawk fans, but they know and I know that Patrick Willis plays like a man among boys!

Top ten for sure, but voted by the players there are still some players that have not played against or should I say, tried to play against this man!
    2011 should change their minds.

Bam Bam should be ranked number 1. If this included Chuck Norris, Norris would be ranked at 2. That’s how good Bam Bam is. xP

said it before that the list is a JOKE. Team has to have winning season(S) to earn league respect! The list should motivate the whole team! Most of all ALex Smith! Im sure PW would rather have a ring then individual attention. HE DOES DESERVE ALL THAT HE GETS but lets get another ring!Just watched 89 Niners on NFL network! Time to play like that year!Lets GO!

Patrick W. is a humble player. I’ll be PO if he don’t get at least a ring when his career is over. The ring(s) he’s get is (are) with the mighty Niners of course.

I thought Patrick Willis got rated at the appropriate spots. The NFL is filled with talented players in various positions. Top 25 is not to bad in a league with many great players. Checkout my blog at http://www.dgtsports.blogspot.com.

Patrick Willis should be ranked 6th in the league behind all the top ranked qb. he has been great and with little to no compliments in his side of the field to help him. all the greatest like ray Lewis has ngata, suggested and a great dbs to keep him focus on one thing and that is to stop the run. for example clay Matthews had a great year and it was because of help from Jenkins and great coverage from the packers secondary.

This list is B.S… you have the best LB in the league ranked 23rd… top 5 without a doubt. Gore ranked 94 is the biggest insult of all… numbers don’t lie and Vernon 88… We need to make a statement this season this is all about winning… 49ers for life

I am going to be the voice of reason. #23 for Patrick Willis is pretty darn great. Statistically, there are 22 players that are desserving of their higher ranking. The truth may hurt, but the truth has to be told.
