49ers Celebrate Stadium Vote Anniversary

Posted by Taylor Price on June 8, 2011 – 12:31 PM

What an exciting time it is for the 49ers and their fans as the team has reached its one-year anniversary of the successful stadium vote that allowed the team and the City of Santa Clara to move forward with plans for a new stadium in the heart of Silicon Valley scheduled to open in 2015.

A lot has happened in a year. The project, focused on creating the premier open-air venue in all of sports and entertainment, is full steam ahead. In fact, during last night’s Santa Clara City Council meeting, the City manager’s report was read stating that the stadium project is right on track.

Several positive developments have happened since our election night coverage, and 49ers Chief Operating Officer Paraag Marathe explained those developments in a press release posted on 49ers.com.

“The City of Santa Clara and the 49ers have worked diligently over the last year to open this extraordinary venue,” Marathe said. “We are proud of the work that has been accomplished.”

Chief among the key items achieved by Santa Clara City officials and the 49ers: A completed stadium design, soon to be showcased at a preview center open for public viewing in the coming months.

In addition, both parties resolved complex environmental issues that will result in the venue leading the NFL’s sustainability efforts. Site work for the stadium will begin in March 2012, now that zoning and development issues have been resolved as well.

Lastly, the NFL has approved the site as a possible Super Bowl home.

“This truly will offer an unparalleled sports and entertainment experience to the Bay Area,” Marathe added.

Another year, another year photos released but this never comes to fruition. It has been over a decade now we’re only seen is the pictures of rendering but not the real thing when will we see the real thing? Tire of this year after year. Talk to talk walk to walk…. Show the real stadium where the team can play.

What is next? Stadium in Santa Cruz, Treasure Island? Better yet Floating Stadium on the Bay? Get the damn thing done, stop BSing.

i know candlesticks a monument but is anyone opposed to maybe revamping it instead building this thing somewhere hella random? i mean really, santa clara? the project seems like the yuppiest god damn thing, i mean in the picture theres people sitting in leather chairs sipping on wine… theres less regular seating compared to candlestick and more vip seating. and anyways i dont feel like giving the 9ers a new stadium is gonna help them win a game. i agree with seng tho… floating stadium!! that and id personally rather go to santa cruz for any reason, including seeing the niners, than to santa clara
