With the inclusion of Faithful fan Rosie, a supporter of the team since 1947, the 49ers found a remarkable candidate for the team’s first fan-inspired commercial of 2011.
The 49ers “Share Your Story” campaign asks Faithful fans to share their reasons for supporting the five-time Super Bowl champions by uploading their story along with a photo to the team’s Facebook page.
Rosie, 82, has become a popular figure in her hometown of San Francisco ever since her commercial debuted last month and since circulated on YouTube. She’s gotten a lot of attention since the ad has aired, but perhaps no more than the overwhelming reception she received at the 49ers 2011 Draft Party.
“It was really surprising. It was shocking,” said Rosie, who has been faithfully going to 49ers games every year since she was introduced to the team in 1947. “But now I’m starting to expect it.”
Rosie’s friends like to brag about her involvement in the 49ers campaign and they don’t hesitate to call her if the commercial is being discussed on the radio.
It means a lot to the Faithful fan, who began going to games to support her husband’s job as a Bay Area sports writer. Over the years, Rosie went to games at Kezar Stadium with a family press pass, but then switched to season tickets to ensure better seats.
Rosie’s commercial features her raising a 49ers flag to wake up the neighborhood, but she said her favorite team tradition is spending gamedays with other passionate football fans such as herself.
“My favorite part of going to games is being surrounded by good people and sharing the game experience with them,” Rosie said.
And now, the same fans that Rosie enjoys cheering with can appreciate her 49ers passion the same way.
