come on everyone..give alex a chance..he hasnt had one solid coach for 3plus years…his Oline hasnt been great, Davis has finally started producing and Gore is Gore…hes got one good receiver…and now hes got a brand new coaching staff and a coach that knows the bay area and knows offense. you all need to admit that there wasnt much confidence after Steve Mariucci left…weve had coaches who were conservative and were all about defensei I mean come on..dickinson, nolan, singletary??!! what do they know!! oh ya yelling and being conservative….now we have a coach whose offense offense offense…alex smith hasnt had a chance w a solid OC either…hes got an arm, hes young and who else we gnna play?? david carr?? the new guy from neveda?? were not getting kolb or anyone else..so i believe in alex smith and now that theres a brand new staff that will be here for awhile..i think hes got this…look at the giants they climbed and climbed and won…

WILL COLIN GET THE NOD RIGHT AWAY, AND WOULD THAT BE THE BEST FOR THE TEAM? OR WHAT ABOUT TROY SMITH, I THOUGHT HE HAD LOTS OF TALENT, BUT HAD LOTS TO LEARN AS A NFL QB.

you are so right ben johnson, without free agency, without OTA’S,no mini-camps,the only qb we have on the roster is david carr,we have to bring alex smith back,he knows the players we have on the roster,he knows the tendencies each player has,at least with alex at qb it wouldnt be starting all over with a new system, new qb who doesnt know anyone or where vernon will be on his famous 999 route or seam pattern,it justs makes sense to bring alex smith back, the real question we should be asking is wether or not alex smith will actually return to be a lame duck qb,,one year deal,,,i doubt it,,it will take a 2 year deal to bring him back at all,and will the team be able to afford what he asks for? This up-coming season is so whitewashed, the teams that have had their rosters together the longest will be in the playofs,,thanx alot owners for not opening up your books you greedy sumsabeeches,it has ruined this coming season,i will still be there,i always will support my team but it will be hard to get excited about anything that happens this year,,,GO NINERS

it”s a gutsy good move actually, let alex play just for i year and let the new qb get the hang of it, and learn the system, after i year turn him lose and at the same time get rid of alex……

  16. By 9erninjja on May 5, 2011 | Reply

You know Alex Smith ain’t going anywhere. Harbaugh likes him, plans on keeping him, and letting Kaepernick grow as a qb, not just stick the guy in there. Like or not, You haters are gonna have to go through with it. I’m on board with Harbaugh and if you’re not, you don’t deserve to be part of the 49er Faithful.

  17. By niner4life on May 5, 2011 | Reply

9erninjja im with you but im tired of losing with this qb!

  18. By sean on May 5, 2011 | Reply

need alex smith out 49er were the best team now no one is scared of us no more teams need to be sraced of us. we will not win with alex smith.

  19. By 9erninjja on May 6, 2011 | Reply

@niner4life- I know losing sucks. I think Alex Smith will be a winner under Harbaugh. Having a coach that used to be a qb will help a lot and help him grow as the qb. and plus, Smith has a really good relationship with V.Davis. and you don’t want to break that up (Davis did tie the record for most TDs for a TE, a majority of the TDs thrown by Smith). Smith also had really bad luck having two defensive minded coaches and bunch of OCs to go with that. I really think Harbaugh can turn Smith’s career around and if not, We have the future in hand. That’s why they game Jim that 5 year contract right. He’ll rebuild this team and bring it back to the glory days.

Alex Smith has talent, but he lacks heart. I believe this problem stems from him being beat down so often early in his career when our offensive line could not protect him. And then there was the fact he never had a quality coach to set up an offense that utilized his talents. I believe Harbaugh will do just that. I say we give him the preseason and a few regular season games along with our support and see what happens.

  21. By K DeCou on May 6, 2011 | Reply

I will boycott the 49ers if they start Alex Smith, I had enough of him blaming others for his misfortune. This includes not ordering my $300 Directv NFL package. It’s time to cut our loses and find a QB with talent.

Hopefully the niners will amount to something this year. Alxx Smith has not shown us much in the past but now with Harbught coaching and developing the offense maybe, just maybe Smith will come alive and show us what he is capable of. The new kid can learn for a year and act as a decent back up QB. Go Niners!!
    Faithful fan for 48 years.

ya he hasnt had a good coach for a couple years now but is it really the coaches fault for his performance in the game. i want kaepernick to be the 49ers QB but i dont think he is going to start right away unless he shows tremendous talent during preseason or if alex smith does not show any improvement or he gets hurt.

HOW COME NOBODY IS SAYING THIS???? TRADE ALEX SMITH AND A COUPLE DRAFT CHOICES FOR KEVIN KOLB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS WILL DEFINITELY MAKE US AN ELITE TEAM IN THE NFL AND DEFINITELY CONQUER THE WEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. By wyo9erfan on May 9, 2011 | Reply

So if as some of you suggest, the 9ers will win very few games if Alex Smith is the QB, that puts them in the running for one Andrew Luck. It also gives them a chance to evaluate Kapernick.

PLEASE JUST SAY NO FOR ALEX SMITH I WOULD LIKE A WINNING SEASON BEFORE I LEAVE THIS WORLD WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET THIS TEAM INTO A WINNING SEASON ALEX SMITH IS NOT YOUR ANSWER ..I AGREED GET RONNIE LOTT BEFORE THE SAINTS GET HIM SINCE LAST SEASON JERRY RICE GOT THE SEAHAWKS GOING GOOD FOR THEIR SEASON ..NO ALEX SMITH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. By Redandgold808 on May 9, 2011 | Reply

Guys Coach H is a quaterback coach look what he did with andrew luck while he was at Stanford, He can sure as hell do it with alex smith and kapernick. Give smith some slack hes had to struggle with the constant change of offensive coordinators while he was in San Fransisco, hes our best hope, give him this one last season, if he doesnt turn out to the quaterback we need him to be than Coach H will realize it and let him go. Until than lets support him, lets support our team.

  32. By Redandgold808 on May 9, 2011 | Reply

The Problem with kapernick, is hes a project, he still needs to work on his mechanics, one of the most vital skills a QB has to master, he is and athletic QB and he has a Strong arm, if Coach H is able to get kapernick to master his mechanics, Kap will be one of the NFLʻs elite in years to come.

Geez!! everyone is ragging on alex. I admit there were a couple of throws he should’ve made last year but the guy has had it worse i think than any qb maybe in history, every year the he gets a new OC and has to learn a new playbook. The playbooks are not 5 pgs people, they are like freakin dictionaries, literally 1000′s of pgs. I feel bad for the guy. I think he does have talent, and one guy says he has no heart……look at when he gets the ball in hands and gets to call his own plays like in the saints game. He was playing the best i ever seen him play and he looked almost unstopable. He knows what to do and how to do it. He needs stability. Maybe if he gets an OC that will call good plays and his o line will block enough for him to look downfield, he might do something. This is the 2nd yr for davis and iupati so maybe they will have a better line. If your really a niner fan you have to believe in your team. coach H has to win or else he wont last too long and i think he’s a good coach but we’ll have to wait and see.
