Two More Honors for No. 52

Posted by Taylor Price on February 7, 2011 – 4:25 PM

By now, 49ers fans and Web site writers alike should be accustomed to Patrick Willis winning awards.

When you’re arguably the best at what you do, people will compliment your performances by way of hardware. And for the second year in a row, Willis has added to his mantle being named the NFL Alumni’s Linebacker of the Year. The most recent award is a nice addition to the Pro Bowl and first-team All Pro nods he received this offseason.

Willis totaled a career-high 6.0 sacks in 2010, adding 153 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, seven pass breakups and two forced fumbles in a dominant season which was cut short one game due to a second hand surgery.

However, Willis recently tweeted that he’s back doing cardio workouts and is optimistic about the 49ers direction for future years as evidence by the comments he made in of one his latest blog entries on Willis52.com.

The four-time Pro Bowler also tweeted about winning Madden Bowl XVII along with Cincinnati Bengals wideout Chad Ochocinco and TV personality Maria Menounos at the annual Super Bowl party put on by EA Sports. Though it was not the ultimate prize he’s in search of, in knowing how competitive Willis can be over video game outcomes amongst his peers, it should go down as a decent consolation prize.

unbelievable,we have two of the best linebackers in the nfl,the best tight end, the best running back, a great defensive end, the best kicker, the best punter,a great kick returner,a great cornerback,(well…used to be)some great offensive lineman, the best run blocking full back, and yet….we couldnt even finish the season with a winning record…i just dont get it….please help us harbaugh!!!

I think P. Willis is the best linebacker period. I think that SF should get that FA DB from Oakland and draft Prince A. from Neb. or if available Peterson from LSU. one of those rookis with that veteran would be great. if both are gone get V. Miller from Texas A&M to go with P. Willis. I have read that HC likes the look of Alex Smith If he stays with the Niners that will be his seventh OC. It might work but I think we need to get a veteran QB (McNabb, Palmer or Orton). Don’t Draft a QB in the 1st round.

Why did Patrick Willis have second-hand surgery? Couldn’t they afford a real doctor?

Sorry, that just looked funny when I read it the first time.

I understand Willis desire to be optimistic. After all he is the best linebacker in the game right now and wants to win now. The 49ers will make a turn around this year and we should be Super Bowl bound in 2012-2013 season. Be patient big Willis and it will pay off! The fans here in Frisco love you and admire your play!

Only Patrick Willis could win a video game tournament with a surgically repaired hand. You the man Pat!!

I have always wondered why people that post on these things have no idea about punctuation or grammar. It is pretty funny actually. I disagree with the post that all the great QBs were drafted 3rd round or later. Last time I checked there was a guy named Peyton Manning that was drafted #1 overall that has turned out pretty well. There was a guy in the 2005 draft that was taken in the first round. He wasn’t the first QB taken that year, but he was still a 1st rounder, and he just won a Super Bowl. If you think about it, Aaron Rodgers could have been a 49er that year. It’s not about where you pick, it’s about who you pick. We need a cerebral (smart), very accurate QB that makes good decisions and makes the throws that are there. Don’t take 50 sacks a year, and don’t throw 20+ INTs and we have a chance. Wait until the 2012 draft and look at a guy named Kellen Moore from Boise State. He had like 50 TDs and 5 INTs last year. That wins football games. I bet you Frank Gore would welcome the space that would open up in the running game. He may not have to touch the ball 400 times a year for the 9ers to win games either. It is about WHO you draft, not where they’re from or where you pick them in the draft. I also think a QB from a pro-style offense is imperative. Alex Smith was doomed to failure no matter how many Offensive Coordinators he has had.

I wish the niners can make Willis feel like hes at home so that he doesn’t have to make every tackle.

I am hoping the 49ers draft Von Miller to give Willis some quality help.
