The season may be over, but that doesn’t mean our “Teddy Football” segments have ended!  49ers play-by-play broadcaster Ted Robinson will be stopping by 49ers headquarters from time to time this offseason to answer some of your questions.

Ted will be stopping by on Thursday, so make sure to leave your questions in the comments section of this blog or by sending them to us on Twitter.  I’ll select a few that Ted will answer on TV49.

Here’s a list of all our Teddy Football interviews from the 2010 season.

Does it make sense to go after Vince Young for the upcoming season? We know of his off the field issues but he can and has shown to be a good quarterback in the NFL. He likes to use his tight ends and he has a great one here in Vernon Davis.

will crabtree be involved more please say yes and will we be getting donavan or kyle orton

Obviously this is a bit early to be asking this, but I’m looking into the future I guess. Anyways, is there any speculation on what will be happening to the QB position for next season? The only things I can think of happening is to stay with Alex Smith for a year because he knows the playbook(which is my personal vote,) trade for a vet, or looking at the draft possibly? In addition, is there going to be any moves that should be noted to beef up the O-line or anything regarding the secondary on defense?

  4. By Nikolas on Jan 12, 2011 | Reply

So I think we should bring in a free agent QB like Vince Young or trade for Kevin Kolb or Vick. I don’t think we should waste our pick on a QB unless we trade down but the thing is our biggest needs are QB and DB’s so should draft Patrick Peterson or Prince Naumakura or go after Nhamdi or champ Bailey in free agency? And do you think we will give Taylor Mays a chance this season? the guy is a beast and is a freak and I didn’t understand why he didn’t start more often. And lastly are we gonna keep Lawson? He stepped it up this year. your thoughts.

will the search for the new qb be through free agency or the nfl draft? …. who are the most probable candidates?

  6. By Christian NJ on Jan 12, 2011 | Reply

There are obviously a number of positions that need to be addressed in the upcoming draft and free agency. I think we need to acquire players that are hard working team players and not necessarily who Mel Kiper and ESPN tout as top choices (that get overpaid half the time anyway). That being said there are some free agents out there like Nnamdi Asomugha that would instantly help our struggling secondary. How aggressive do you think the Niners will be in trying to sign free agents / make trades in this off season? Also, who do you see on our roster as being able to step up in 2011 to make a difference (Taylor Mays)?

how does this idea sound to 49er fans? How about Rod Woodson to be our DB’s coach in 2011

  8. By mac dre on Jan 12, 2011 | Reply

oh and i defenitly think we should bring lawson back

  9. By JR Baca in NM on Jan 12, 2011 | Reply

How about signing Tory Holt and M. Vick?

  10. By Zeolit on Jan 12, 2011 | Reply

Get a QB who knows how to reach TE’s because we have two of the best in the game, and game changers at that!

Even though Alex Smith has been blamed for all of our Offensive woes i dont think he is to blame… Bad coaching … and new systems that dont work are more at fault than Alex. Looking at his stats he is a real good QB and we should not get rid of him. Maybe draft a QB and groom him into a west coast QB. But dont just throw away Alex.

  12. By JR Baca from New Mexico on Jan 12, 2011 | Reply

What do you think of a Donoven McNabb and Brian Wesbrook hookup again, but now as 49ers? So what QB choices do we have so far?

  13. By fredammer on Jan 12, 2011 | Reply

get rid of alex smith and go after kurt warner out of retirement hewill make a good qb and that will help the 49ers get to the playoffs

  14. By JR Baca from New Mexico on Jan 12, 2011 | Reply

Free Agent, Alex Smith is leaving on his own, he does not want to stay. he is a good QB but has not takenus to the playoffssince he has been here. I even thought that it would be great for him to stay, but we need a QB that will take us to the BIG show! Go 9ers…+…!

  15. By Dave Whitaker on Jan 13, 2011 | Reply

I think we need to keep AlexSmith, with new coach bringing in a more acurate version of the west coast offense. Alex is poised to take us to the top

  16. By Justin on Jan 13, 2011 | Reply

The media seems to be emphasizing the importance of signing a QB. While I agree, I would argue that another key area to address is our secondary. We had a very weak revolving door of safeties this year, and our CBs only showed up some of the time. Our last major gamble on a CB was Mike Rumph and we all saw how that turned out. Baalke did a great job with the draft last year, so far. Do you think the secondary will be a priority this offseason?

  17. By mac dre on Jan 13, 2011 | Reply

Alex may be a good qb but not the anwser to our qb problems. I believe Jim Harbaugh has the ability to draft a qb in the 3rd round and mold him into a franchise qb. 49ers fans, if you like Mike Vick then i suggest we draft Tyrod Taylor of Virgina Tech somewhere in the later rounds and let Jim do his magic. Tyrod Taylor plays alot like Vick. His college completion percentage is similar to Vicks and they both play very similar. We all know Vick thrived in the west coast offense and i think this kid(taylor) will too. check him out

  18. By mac dre on Jan 13, 2011 | Reply

I just think that going out of our way to trade for a qb and getting ripped off is a bad decision that will come back to haunt us. Also if a qb is released and his asking price is even somewhat too high; then forget it.. alot of teams recently have added quality talent through the draft and i believe that our future lies in the draft. my fellow 49er fans, think about the long term not short term. be patient. Just like you guys i have seen my team get beat year in and year out but i rather see the 49ers in three years win and contend for superbowls for decades to come than to see them make the playoffs next year and that be the only highlight of the decade. theres alot of quality qbs that put in the right situation with the right coaching staff will surprise everyone. examples: joe montana, tom brady, tony romo(for being undrafted). forget about kolb, vince young, mcnabb, orton; and lets try to find a hidden gem

  19. By steve9er on Jan 13, 2011 | Reply

i would like to see the 49ers get either kolb or
mcnabb but not fot a 1st rd pick, kolb for a 2nd
and maybe a cond. pk and donovan when he gets let go.
also i agree we need a young gun to groom under
harbaugh. this always seems to be the case when a new
coach comes in. he wants his own guy like ron wolf
did in g.b. with brett favre. go 49ers!

Will they be making a play for a free agent QB? Since we are going back to the west coast offense it would make sense to go after a young QB in Kevin Kolb or reach for Vince Young. Defensively I still say we need corners our front seven is wonderful but our secondary is atrocious. We have no speed and are easily beaten and I have seen this thepast few years and no type of scheme can hide this fact. Sure up the secondary and QB position and we will be a threat for years to come.

We need to make some serious tweeks to the team’s personnel. First of all, we absolutely need to get a QB with lots of experience so we can then draft a new QB to mentor. Andrew Luck will remain with Stanford until next year. We should do everything we can to get that number one pick so we can get him. I’m sure he’d love to come to SF so he could play under Harbaugh. To me, it all makes sense and I have a feeling that’s what the Niners are trying to do. But that is easier said than done and we won’t know how our draft position will be next year. We need to do something to turn this team around. We need to see our players improve. We need to take the raw talent and develop it. Mike Crabtree is a great example of a talent that has gone to waste. I really hope that we go back to the west coast offense and use Vernon Davis, Josh Morgan, Jinn Jr, etc. Also, Frank Gore is going to be a big question mark. I pray to God that he has a full recovery. I’d utterly hate to see his career be over with. He’s too good.

Why not go big….see if you can get Peyton Manning. Even if they franchise him, it would be well worth it, since you are not going to get a franchise qb via the draft and you will spend a ton of money/picks to lure others away.

has it been brouht up about nate davis getting a shot from what i”ve seen he has done great when had the chance. thank u niners for life .

  25. By Ian Israel on Jan 13, 2011 | Reply

I think we should go after a vet at QB Vince Young but not McNabb. Or even Draft a rookie QB like Cam Newton But Alex Smith has to go 7 yrs is enough how many chances can one person be given. or give the Troy Smith A chance he was what 3-1 as a starter.

we all must take a second and give these guy’s a chance to figure out just “who and how” to put the right people together to make any kind of b.s. statements regarding the 49’ers. seems so far someone??? is making pretty good choice’s hang on just a little and we all will be looking for playoff and maybe just maybe “super bowl” tickets ——— GO NINER’S

Would the 9ers consider signing Jeff Garcia as the stop gap and draft a rookie prospect for the future of the QB position?

I feel we have a great team we just need the right defense and the right quarter back and offensive plan.

What are the chances of signing Kolb if he ends up leaving Philly? Are they good? And do you think it would make sense? I believe Kolb would be perfect he will have a chip on his shoulder, he’s young, and I believe he could step in ready to play the position unlike a drafted quarterback.

  31. By pk on Jan 13, 2011 | Reply

Now that we have a coach we have to get a qb asap. I dont think any qb in this year’s draft are worth gambling on. If Vick is available, he should be our first choice. Kolb, Mcnabb, and Young comes after in no particular order. We need to use the draft to beef up the secondary and d-line. If we do draft a qb, we should draft one that would learn from our Vick or whoever will be starting for the 49ers next season.

Who are the leading candidates for the coordinater positions and who are some key coaches and scouts Harbaugh and Baalke are likely to bring Stanford?

  33. By ninersalltheway on Jan 14, 2011 | Reply

I think we need to focus on troy smith for our lead QB. Also we need to focus on the players we have already and train them in the new west coast offense. With harbaugh in command and all the talent our team possesses we will make it all the way to the top.

  34. By Justin on Jan 14, 2011 | Reply

Ok, I’ve seen so much talk about Young, McNabb, and Kolb. Their price tag is going to be way too high for all the drama and investment that would be required. Many people seem to be all about signing a vet until we get Luck. While everyone wants to dream big about getting Luck next year, let’s face it, we aren’t going to be the worst team in the league next year, and we aren’t going to trade off any star players or several years of draft picks to get him. Let Luck go. The most uncomfortable thing to do here is to wait, and let Jimmy Harbaugh (a 15-yr QB) find his guy and go with it. Here’s hoping for a new CBA before the draft!!! Go 9ers!!!

I dont think there is a question that Coach Harbaugh has the potential to do great things for the franchise. I do think there are a few things this team needs to change in their personal to allow them to be great.

I dont know about the rest of you, but I very disappointed in what Nate Clements has done for the organization. The 49ers are paying him top corner money, but he’s playing nothing to the level of a shut down corner. In fact, he was third in the team on tackling with 82 tackles! That might sound great to some of you, but your #1 corner should not get that many opportunities to make tackles; he should be shutting down the receiver and not allowing the quarterback to even think about throwing his way. This just tells me that he is not making enough plays and is allowing his receiver to make catches, and isn’t playing at a high enough level. I would be ok if the niners kept him another year, but only at the #2 position. Other than Clement, I like a few players in the secondary. For example Taylor Mays; he hasn’t done much yet but the skills this guy has and athletic abilty is off the charts. I also like the play making ability in Dashon Goldson. This past year his statistics dropped from ’09, but he has the hands of a receiver and can hit like a mad man. I think these guys can anchor the backbone of the secondary. So the one thing I think this defense is missing is a true shut down corner. I would love to get either Patrick Peterson or Prince Amukamara with the #7 pick.

As far as the offense goes, getting a quarter back is the most important thing. In response to what Gary said, I would really be disappointed in this organization if they decided to deal with Vince Young. I don’t think he would fit into this offense at all. But, I would love for the team to do an offer with Phily to get QB Kevin Kolb, but with the CBA expiring, trades are not going to be allowed until the new CBA is set in place and it doesn’t look like that is going to happen until sometime after the draft. So because of that, I think the next best thing would be to trade up in the draft and get Jake Locker out off Washington. The guy led his team to the Holiday Bowl this past year while having four or five injuries and ended up defeating Nebraska who beat them earlier in the year by about 45 points. He is most likely going to go in the late first round (if not later) so we wouldn’t need to give a whole lot to get him. And I love the skills this guy has; he has great feet, arm strength, he understands defenses, and he ran an offense just like the one Harbaugh is bringing in. I think this could be a great fit for the organization.

Let me know what you guys think.
    Go Niners!

  36. By bigsteve8789 on Jan 15, 2011 | Reply

What about Jamarcus Russell we could get him cheap and he has the talent all he needs is a mentor like Harbaugh to mold him into a quality NFL QB. Why dont the 49ers hire Jerry Rice as a wide receivers coach he could definitely teach these young receivers how to play the game like a champion.

  37. By GMoney on Jan 16, 2011 | Reply

Lee Engle: “Would the 9ers consider signing Jeff Garcia as the stop gap and draft a rookie prospect for the future of the QB position?”

Although that would make for a great and amazing story to have the 41 year old quarterback come back to play one more season; its just never going to happen. Garcia might have the mind set to still play, but there is no way his body ancient can last a 5 month long season.

I too agree with Justin in the hope for a new CBA before the ’11 draft. Although its most likely not going to happen, we can still wish right? With that said, no matter what happens with the CBA, I still hope the organization decides to draft the CB Prince Amukamara with the #7 pick, and then trade up in the late first round to get QB Jake Locker. These two guys could be the faces of the 9ers franchise for years to come.

  38. By Trevor on Jan 16, 2011 | Reply

Please stay away from Vince Young. I’ll take Alex Smith any day over him! Please stay away from Cam Newton as well. NOT a 1st round QB!!! Great athlete. Thats about it. If anything Harbaugh knows Jake Locker extremely well having coached against him. Also, not happy about letting our def coordinator go so harbaugh can have “his” guys. Why let our off coordinator go and have our qb’s learn yet ANOTHER system???

  39. By bigsteve8789 on Jan 16, 2011 | Reply

I think we should go for Mcnabb and a unknown qb in the draft of Harbaugh ‘s choosing. That would give us a couple years with a playoff quality qb while the rookie learns the system. Bottom line we need a qb that knows how to win games in the nfl, thats our achiles heel since Jeff Garcia left.
