Teddy Football: Week 17

Posted by Scott Kegley on December 31, 2010 – 12:10 PM

It’s time for our last episode of the season, so make sure you send in plenty of questions for 49ers broadcaster Ted Robinson.  I’ll pick a few and Ted will give his answers before the 49ers season finale against the Arizona Cardinals.  Submit your question in the comments section of this blog, or send them to us on Twitter.

In case you missed an episode, you can listen to all of them on our “Teddy Football” page on 49ers.com.

Doug, thank you for sending in questions all year! This is the last week though, so I expect nothing but the best.

I will also be joined by a special guest this week as Taylor Price has a few questions of his own.

The season may not have gone as hoped, but I’d like to thank everyone for writing in all season long.  Let me know what you’ve thought of these segments as well as any other ideas you have for 49ers.com in 2011. Have a great New Years!

On the Phone with Whisenhunt and Skelton

Posted by Sam Good on December 29, 2010 – 6:21 PM

Standing on the sidelines during the 49ers and Cardinals Week 12 “Monday Night Football” matchup, John Skelton didn’t like what he saw.

“I remember how bad it was for us offensively,” Arizona’s then-third-string quarterback said during his Wednesday conference call with the Bay Area media. “The Niners have a good defense and we struggled with some of the things they did and we couldn’t get much going.”

Live Game Blog: 49ers at Rams

Posted by Scott Kegley on December 26, 2010 – 10:11 AM

I hope all the 49ers Faithful had a great Christmas.  If you haven’t seen it yet, check out this video as some of our players sing Frosty the Snowman – priceless!

But, on to the game.

This is probably the 49ers biggest game in quite some time.  The 49ers are 5-9, just one game back of the Rams in the NFC West.  If the 49ers win and the Seahawks lose to Tampa Bay today, the 49ers will be one more win away from the playoffs.  That may seem strange to the fans, but that’s exactly how it’s worked out this year.

As Singletary announced earlier this week, Troy Smith will start today, but he did leave open the possibility that both Troy and Alex Smith could see action in the game.

Here’s the inactive list for both teams:

49ers - QB David Carr (3rd QB), CB Tramaine Brock, CB William James, S Chris Maragos, DT Will Tukuafu, T Joe Staley, T Alex Boone, TE Nate Byham

Rams - S Michael Lewis, CB Justin King, LB David Nixon, LB Curtis Johnson, G John Greco, WR Mardy Gilyard, TE Michael Hoomanawanui, DT Jermelle Cudjo

With Byham out, Colin Cloherty will make his 49ers debut, as will linebacker Thaddeus Gibson.

On the Phone with Spagnuolo and Atogwe

Posted by Sam Good on December 22, 2010 – 5:32 PM

The 49ers are yet to say which Smith will be their starting quarterback on Sunday, but St. Louis Rams’ coach Steve Spagnuolo isn’t fretting over the upcoming announcement.

He’s faced this situation before.

When his team played at Candlestick Park in Week 10 the 49ers were deciding whether to start Alex Smith or Troy Smith. And just last week Spagnuolo wasn’t sure if Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback Matt Cassel would be healthy enough to start less than two weeks after he underwent an emergency appendectomy.

LaBoy and Nedney Placed on IR

Posted by Scott Kegley on December 18, 2010 – 5:13 PM

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have placed LB Travis LaBoy and K Joe Nedney on the Injured Reserve List. The team has promoted TE Colin Cloherty and DT Will Tukuafu from the practice squad to the active roster.

LaBoy, who played in all 14 games this season and ranked 2nd on the team with 5.0 sacks, suffered a knee injury against the San Diego Chargers on December 16.

Nedney has been sidelined since suffering a knee injury against the St. Louis Rams on November 14. Prior to his injury, he connected on 11 of 13 field goal attempts and all 17 PATs this season.

49ers Put San Diego Loss to Rest

Posted by Taylor Price on December 17, 2010 – 4:31 PM

The show goes on.

Even after the 49ers lost 34-7 last night, at 5-9 with two divisional games remaining, they have not yet been eliminated from playoff contention.

St. Louis and Seattle will have to lose this weekend to keep the 49ers playoff hopes alive. But there’s a possibility that both could do just that.
