Westbrook Up for FedEx Ground Award

Posted by Taylor Price on November 30, 2010 – 12:14 PM

Brian Westbrook entered Monday night with nine rushing yards. He left with 136 more, his first touchdown with the 49ers and a nomination for FedEx’s Ground Player of the Week.

You can vote for Westbrook by clicking here.

He’s amongst tough competition, but Westbrook’s performance deserves serious recognition. Despite having a limited role for the first 10 games of the season, Westbrook kept his head in the game and was ready when called upon.

His 136 yards were his most in a single game since Oct. 26, 2008 vs. Atlanta when he rushed 22 times for 167 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Great for Brian, but very concerned about Frank. Wish they would have used the rest of the backs more often seeing how they played last night. The team will miss Frank (and I pray he can make a come-back next year), but if the combination Westbrook and Dixon continues like it did last night! Short week for the 9ers, lets hope they ride the wave into G.B.

Agreed, Frank will be missed, but our two back combo may work well. I also hope this forces the offense to open up a bit more and be more balanced.

We cannot run the ball every down against every team.

Green Bay has got a good team, I have faith we can pull through it, no mistake and lets make it happen.

    Go NINERS!!

You go westbrook! Hit’em hard and show the public you were down but not out. Just like the niners! I am glad to have a experienced back to take over when needed. I am sure there will be more games that will showcase westbrooks talent but also showcase the niners ability to improvise with such adversity.

Niners rule! Beat the f%*king cheese heads!!!!! I hate that team!!

Gentlemen, We face the Packers in Lambeau…. I couldn’t think of a better way to to prove to ourselves, the league, and the world how good we really are. Joe, Steve and Jerry are watching. Bill is protecting us from above, and Favre’s punk a## is in Minnesota. This Sunday, we make our statement! ARE WE MEN, OR ARE WE MICE. Remember the age old mantra. Any team, can beat any team, on any given sunday. So gear up, and head to your local sports bar. MAKE AS MUCH NOISE AS YOU CAN!!! BECAUSE SUNDAY IS OUR JUDGEMENT DAY, AND WE WILL NOT GO DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT!!!!!!

ebonically speaking: we like the mutha f’in post office!!! Neither rain nor sleet, nor cheesy snow will stop us from our delivery to the endzone!!!

What i want to know is why they still post Brian Westbrook with a Eagles jersey and not a Red and Glorious Gold Jersey of the 49ers… Check the nfl website… i guess the NFL does not consider him a 49er

Mike Johnson is going to have to open up the offense now….. Not taking anything away from Westbrook… He is a great running back. But you cannot expect him to run every down. You can’t expect Gore to do that and we did…. Look what happened. It’s time for Westbrook to shine… he is capable of a lot…. Remember the days when he used to desimate us? he can still do that. And very effectively… He’ll be fine. We’ll have to use Dixon also. He can do alot of damage if we let him…. the receivers and tight ends are going to have to step it up and need the ball a lot more. I see the niners taking this negative of losing Gore and converting it into a very huge positive. I see the team now has a real chance to make the playoffs and even do more than that. this is a wakeup call that the niners have been waiting for.

The nonly thing I don’t understand is why they haven’t played Westbrook more in the first 10 games of the season. He is a different type of runner than Gore. He would have been a great change of pace to alternate with Gore through the season. I was very excited when the 9ers signed Westbrook, but was mystified when he sat on the bench the first 10 games. I like Gore, but when you have two great backs, why not alternate them and keep them both fresh and in a groove at the same time?
I hope Brian has another great game, and rest of the season. Go Brian! Go 9ers!
