hey this just might be worth watching
now if sing just would cut it loose and let the
offense play so our defense woud’nt have to be on
    the field for 3 qtrs!

Ok so I dont even know who this guy is or if he is any good at all, but to all of you supposed fans of the niners that is happy that smith is out, you are foolish…. He was starting to find his offense and find something that was working better for him than things we have tried in the past. Why the hell did we get rid of Davis?

dude david carr sucks at least troy smith is a heisman winner. If carr was better than smith why has carr been so horrible his entire career. I am surprised that he even is still in the league.

ITS OFFICAL THE 49ERS ARE A LOST CAUSE. THE GM MUST BE GETTING HIS WISH AND PLAYING HIS BOY TROY. THE COACH ISN’T EVEN MAKING THE CALLS ANYMORE. THIS IS SAD AND SHOWS HE HAS LOST THE TEAM. WHY WONT SINGLETARY COME OUT AND SAY HE DOESNT EVEN HAVE THE POWER TO PICK THE STARTERS ANYMORE, AND THE GM IS NOW PULLING THE STRINGS

  9. By Bruce on Oct 27, 2010 | Reply

are you serious? carr??? I would understand if you wanted Nate but Carr??? did you not watch him at the end of the carolina game? he was horrible. had no arm strength. maybe thats cause he hasnt played but wow. at least when smith sub’d in to replace Hill he surprised the defense and posted 3 td’s. carr was just off his game. we need spark. if t smith dont cut it. i say make a move to nate davis. by the time this experiment is done Alex is healthy and we will know who exactly is the best option…..but from the looks of sunday, it is not carr. lol.

yes why did we loose davis , well lets see what tro can do maybe we go on a 9 game winning streek.

  13. By Sobobaskin on Oct 27, 2010 | Reply

Im glad carr isn’t going to start. He is worthless just like WIllis said. At least we can see what Troy Smith has to offer. I would rather see Troy Smith throw an interception rather than that weak armed sissy throw that David Carr has. It looks like he is deformed the way he throws the ball. My technique looks better than his. But what do i know i am not a professional athlete.

  14. By Sobobaskin on Oct 27, 2010 | Reply

what is up with crappy Anthony Davis. He freeking gets beat like every play. I understand that he is a rookie but Upati doesn’t get slapped around like that. All Davis does is get beat for sacks and penalties. He should sit and get better before he is a starter. I don’t understand while Singletary will let our quarterbacks get killed all the time . And what is up with Joe Staley playing like crap you see when we kicked our last field goal, on third down how he got beat and he didn’t even react to the defender going past him he just turned back around like nothing happened.I am a die hard niners fan but i Miss Steve Young

I think this is the right move. I always liked the up side of Nate Davis but wasn’t upset when I heard abouth N.Davis for T.Smith trade. T.Smith put up some great number for Ohio St. He has been in the leauge long enough that he should have a solid shot at turning some heads and contend for the starters job. Good Luck Troy. I don’t think this was anyone’s decision but MR. Singletary’s, and it’s the right one.

Willie Beamen anyone? lol What if one of the best football movies came true? Ok its not very probable but c’mon people, though we are having a very poor season our team is talented and who knows how the rest of the season will turn out. There are teams that have gone on big runs before. Sure I’m being very optimistic its part of being a fan. As a fan I am sick of the negativity i the bay about the niners season, so what we’re 1-6? That means there’s 9 more games in the season and I’m gonna root for the niners every game. If u are a true fan u should too. Troy Smith is a Heisman winner and he knows how to win games. LETS GO NINERS!!!!!!!

Relax 49ers fans. Smith is good. He was named the Ravens starting QB in the 2008 preseason but suffered a sinus/flu infection in the preseason and never got an opportunity to start so Joe Flacco was named the starter and has been ever since. Smith has never got the opportunity to start a few games in the NFL, everyone looks at his last full game he played (2007 fiesta bowl vs Florida) where the OSU Buckeyes were blown out 41-14 in the National Champ. Troy has never been granted the opportunity to redeem the outcome of that game, but now he has that chance. He is very good and also has a very strong arm. Plus now he has Ted Ginn, his former High School AND College teammate, and Michael Crabtree to throw to (which you could liken Crabtree to Santonio Holmes whom Smith played with at OSU and helped turn both of them into stars). Smith is good, he just needs a chance to start (by a chance I mean more than 1 game) now he has been given the goahead to start and hopefully Singletary will be pleased with what he sees.

IT’s the defenses own fault there own the field so long. There offense moved the ball and held it for the most part when they had it last week. All teams have a few 3 and outs during a game. Our 3rd down conversions are getting better every game. The defense not getting off the field or not making plays is on the defense. I could understand the argument in the 4th quarter, but when the other team has the ball almost the whole first half that’s not on the offense

  27. By Sonic98 on Oct 27, 2010 | Reply

@ Mike. Maybe you’re the lost cause. It’s obvious why people call use 40Whiners and it’s not just because it rhymes. There isn’t anything that goes on with this team that people don’t moan and complain about. And whenever the team is doing anything good the minute one bad thing happens people panic and give up. There is still a lot of football to be played this season whether we can make the playoffs or not

What everyone is missing is the fact that no matter who is in the game we are still going to have our hands tied…Alex Smith is our best option but he is hurt. so what are we going to do run the football all game. Carr you are the worst QB in history you lost that game for us. I could perdict what the 9ers are going to do every play!! D is playing good enough to win, but the O…. we have the skill but play calls suck!! Put anthony dixson in more along with wesbrook put gore in the slot. And someone take lead of this team!!!

i am an outsider looking in, i am a bears fan, but like to keep tabs on your coach. seems to me he catches a lot of flack from the fans. and now the niner nation is complaining about troy smith, and how the GM is in control and coach is not. i read a couple of weeks ago that he wanted to let smith replace alex and not carr, but the oc at the time wanted carr. i think now singletary has who he wants at qb. just an observation, and one man’s opinion.

  33. By mutney on Oct 27, 2010 | Reply

Good move. For those who don’t read, Davis is still on on the practice squad roster. If Troy doesn’t cut it, try Davis quick. We might be surprised by either Troy or Nate. It’s a start even if several games late.
GM and HC still a must. We should be calling/shopping now!

Nate Davis would have done a good job for us as a back up possible starter.. I can’t believe he got demoted to practice squad.. Alex was starting to have a decent season stat wise.. But we need a more attentive QB that is mobile and can audible out on the blitzes.. Alex Smith is good if you spread the offense or shot gun formation.. He can’t do much under center.. I think Singletary has to get his head out of his @$$ and just let the offense play and focus on the defense.. I will also give up on this season as far as us going anywhere.. Crap give me the GM job with 3 years and I would do a better job than the current management and have better success.. Still Love My Niners..

If not he should have started as soon as he got here and let A Smith go.In regards to Garcia, I don’t think he would come back with our team in such a mess.I just hope we don’t draft another QB! I’d like to see us get Bolger in the off season! Tough veteran who played in our division and he throws the ball well. Just sad he got sacked so much!

This season is a lesson on what it takes to be successful…A FRANCHISE QB!
We were spoiled for so long and look now.
Why have Carr hand off most of the plays until the last and most important drive? Made no sense, set the guy up basiclly to fail. Cold off the bench with little or no reps during the week recipe for disaster.
I don’t know about you guys but I am tired of loosing the games by three and on our last posession! Can we please just blow someone out? Even the Raiders can do that!

For the clowns that thought Alex was finding his offense….he has been finding his offense for the last 6 years….it is time for a change and it came to late in the season for us to do anything to make a run at the playoffs but we at least may have a chance to get a winning record

Troy Smith has a lot more potential than Carr does. He’s similar to Vick(who we should of picked). A lot of people seem to be forgetting that Troy Smith is a Heisman winner, who did decently at Baltimore before Flacco came in.

So my team is just going to leapfrog a very capable leader in David Carr? He had zero practice time before Carolina, and had to deal with bad playcalling?

    What is going on here???

David needs another chance…and how MANY chances have we given #11? David Carr’s confidence was BURIED in Houston by inexperience everywhere- so why is his new shot for a FRESH opportunity NOT now at Wembley? He’s earned it.

This is another sad day for our 2010 season.

HEY BENAVENTE, YOUR NOT A TRUE FAN OR YOU WOULD STILL BE POSITIVE. THIS MAY SOUND FUNNY BUT I AM GLAD WE ARE BACK TO A NORMAL TEAM EVEN THROUGH THIS IS BELOW NORMAL…LOL, BUT I GOT TIRED OF OF BEING A TOP TEAM EVERY YEAR WHEN THEW GAME WAS OVER BY HALFTIME. THIS IS EXCITING TO SEE HOW LONG UNTIL WE GET BACK TO THE BIG GAME AND I HOPE IT IS BEFORE I KICK THE BUCKET AS THE NINER’S WINNING THE SB IS ON MY BUCKET LIST ALONG WITH HITTING IT BIG IN CASH SOME HOW. I AM CONFUSED THAT HILL WAS DOING ABOVE AVERAGE BEFORE HE WENT DOWN IN DETROIT AND WHEN HE WAS IN SF HE WAS A VERY BAD PRACTICE QB BUT AT GAME TIME HE WAS GOOD.
NOW NATE ‘SAVE US’ DAVIS I READ ON ALL THE 49ER BLOGS WAS THE SAME WAY, A BAD PRACTICE QB BUT WHEN HE PLAY IN PRE-SEASON GAMES HE WAS OUTSTANDING, WHY, WHY, WHY, DON’t WE GIVE HIM A SHOT AS HE’s GOT A CANNON FOR A ARM AND ALWAYS GOT THE BALL TO THE RIGHT GUY AND CAN THROW THE SIDELINE COME BACKER WITH AUTHORITY, I DON’T GET IT. SO I WILL BACK TS AS I AM A TRUE BUCKEYE FAN THAT THINKS TROY CAN BE THE NEXT RICH GANNON AND BE A LATE BLOOMER AND I HOPE HE CAN LEAD THIS TEAM TO THE PROMISE LAND. ONE PART OF ME WANTS TO SEE HIM FAIL AND GIVE ND A SHOT BUT AGAIN THEY STILL HAVE ND ON THE ROSTER SO I WILL WAIT IT OUT AS HE IS THE REAL DEAL AND I HOPE WE KEEP “ND” GO TROY DES'(“TROY’) SMITH

Good move for this week. Carr stinks as a QB – I am a lifelong niners fan who lives in the Carolinas. Carr was so bad here the Panthers had to bring Vinny Testeverde out of retirement to replace him. Give the young kid a chance and lets see what he can do until Alex is healthy again.

Hey they traded for Smith at the beginning of the season for a reason (Alex would eventually get hurt or fail) and Carr is back-up material. Need to find out how high we need to draft a QB. Offensive line takes time to learn…very young line right now. I am excited to see how someone else running the offence will do…never wish anyone to get hurt, would have rather Alex got pulled.

I would like them to bring in Gruden, I think he would mesh well with the young players!!

  62. By 49er forever on Oct 27, 2010 | Reply

    A. Smith is coming along he is working on making good decisions with the ball; Nate Davis is on the practice squat and still with the niners. He has a learning disability (Dyslexia) which is causing him some set backs in learning the plays. In preseason they dumb down the play book and just give a few simple plays so he can do his thing. He is still a project in the works. T. Smith was a Heisman trophy winner for Ohio State and would have won the championship game that year had Ted Ginn not gotten hurt. I think having Troy Smith and Ted Ginn back together again is a beautiful thing, because they made a great team at Ohio State. So Troy Smith isn’t a nobody and is a lot better then David Carr which we should NOT have picked up at all. Carr is a waste of money. We need to get one of those Philly Qb’s next year to challenge A. Smith a bit.

  63. By LouP on Oct 27, 2010 | Reply

I”m in favor of either T. Smith or Nate Davis giving it a try. Why not? They cant be any worse than what we had going on the past 7 weeks. The lack of quality play, coupled with the disasterous play calling(pre Mike Johnson) and poor coaching has led to this dreadful start.Nobody was going to hand us the NFC West because everybody predicted us to do so. I can only hope we draft a QB that can actually play, hire either Jon Gruden, Bill Cowher or Mike Holmgren next year, and find a quality number2 back behind Gore. Not tio mention a defensive lineman who can actually rush the QB and apply some sort of pressure. It’s unbelivably frustrating to watch this once proud franchise every week. They are now the joke of the league and it will take a miracle to win 5 games this year.

  64. By ob on Oct 27, 2010 | Reply

This season turned into a joke. I had hope as we all did at least a playoff birth. Our divison suck if we cant win this maybe we should get a new coach (he suacks anyway) and get someone who can do the job.Which ever QB we use it does not natter they all suck otherwise thet would be on a good tean, by the way who is this troy smith and were did they find him.

About Garcia, I loved the guy and recently got to see him play when Omaha came here to Vegas to play our Locos. He thru three picks and looked terrible. He only took off to run once the whole game and just didn’t look like the Garcia we once all knew. So that option wouldn’t work. He only looks good agents the BAD UFL teams. Also I was able to meet him and take a picture with him and he is looking pretty old lately. After all he is over 40.

Ok 49er Faithful, to all of you giving up on this season you have never been a Faithful. There will always be a time where it’ll be tough. It’s the Faithful that don’t give up. I’ve been a fan since I was 6 and those were some great years with Steve Young and Jerry Rice. I know we haven’t done anything since 2002 but there will be a change in the tide. Also, Alex Smith was getting better. Mind you, he didn’t have any turnovers right up to his injury. David Carr threw a costly pick against the winless Panthers. Troy Smith is a great QB, he was to be the starter over Joe Flacco of the Ravens until he came down with an illness that kept him out. He has a better win percentage than Alex Smith and David Carr. Nate Davis is on the practice squad and has a gun too but he made some poor decisions during the preseason that costs the 49ers in the turnover battle. I believe this is a good move by coach Singletary. GO 49ERS!!!!

niners for life know matter what happens i am sticking with them and SUPPORTING them not looking for any reason to cry and be dramatic and talk crap about MY team.I hate losing more than anyone but im also a team guyand i want to see this team turn it around and i know we will or i should not call myself a fan.I was at the game ,and every game, and I heard all you dramatic people calling for carr.you guys dont know what you want.if you call yourself a niner ,then be niner thick or thin, winning or losing.if we could all do that then maybe we can be that twelvth man that our team needs.instead of a bunch of cry babys that act like everything they do is perfect.we are better than our record and it will soon show.but singletary is a great coach and we do not want to lose him.but i never liked carr so i am very glad we leap frogged him and went with t smith.

I’m just looking ahead now. Maybe if we keep losing we will be set up for a really good draft pick and we can get a new qb. the only bright side to having a horrid season I guess.

This is the problem. Sing’s idea is for the team to put themselves in a position to win the game. The team has been doing that. If you look at it only two games were we not in a position late in the game to win. Our team has done what he has asked them to do including our coordinators. The problem is this team has not won in so long and they are not good enough on either side of the ball to make the plays when they count the most. So how do we resolve this we have to be more aggressive on O and D. This past week against Carolina and played the game to keep it close. We have to play to try and put people away because we have not learned to win the close games yet. Even the game against the raiders we would have been in trouble had they’re receiver not had the ball bounce off his chest into spikes hands.

Start Nate Davis already he was the best QB in the preseason hands down. Alex and Carr are useless 1st round picks that are never going to work out Texans found that out the hard way. Troy Smith has never taken a snap but yet he’s our third string QB. How does Carr or Troy beat Nate Davis for 2nd string I still dont know how that happened. Davis has football smarts and it shows in game situations. I saw him play at a preseason game last year vs Dallas and I was very impressed he was the best QB that day that was including Tony Romo. Let’s stop making excuses for Alex Smith and lets move on. Get rid of little hands already.

This will be another good opportunity for everyone to see that Alex Smith is not the golden boy everyone thought. After 6 years its safe to say he has done all he can in SF. Its time to cut him loose, and find someone able to to fill the position. I’m looking forward to seeing what Troy can do.

This coaching decision makes me realize that things aren’t getting any better under Sing. It’s time to look towards next year and get a coach that has some playoff experience.

This is a good move! If Alex can’t go, Troy is the next best option. Carr is the worst QB they have on their team. I do think Troy gives us the best chance to win without Alex. Yes this season is a lost cause but I am a 49er Faithful and will still watch the games and stand behind my team. Kind of sad that some of the fans here are giving up on them completely and not even going to stick around and ride out the season. Wow! So what you all are going to jump back on the band wagon when they start winning again?

To everybody that “wishes” we didn’t trade Nate Davis, he is on the practice squad guys! Anthony Davis needs to go. David Carr is the worst quarterback in professional sports. I’m not sure of T. Smith’s abilities but he has to be better than Carr, just not sure if he knows the playbook very well. I can’t wait to see Alex get better he was really starting to find his groove. But now the big question, what do we do for a qb NEXT season??

Most everyone is pulling for Gruden which would be cool with me but what about Mike Holmgren, Bill Cowher, John Fox, or Marty Schottenheimer? This team should not be this bad. I am so disappointed…The foundation is there we just need a good QB and HC. Scrap most everyone from the Nolan era and alll the Smith fans can follow him to the CFL.

I for one hope that the Niners don’t win another game this year. In next years draft they should draft the best defensive players that they can find. I also hope that they give serious consideration to Jim Harbaugh as their next head coach. Any coach that has made David Carr as the # 2 man at QB is not head coach material. The Niners need a general as head coach…not a drill sergeant. It took a coach from Stanford to finally put us on the map and I think history is waiting to repeat itself if they give Harbaugh a chance.

David Carr is a loser. I think its a good move to start Troy Smith to see what he can do. We have seen what that loser Carr has done in his carrier so far. Cost us a winning game last week. Nate Davis should be the back up before David Carr. We just wasted money by bring in Carr. I think we need to start scoring points. We did get the first touchdown with only four plays last week. We always get the first touchdown, and try to kill time by doing little plays here and there instead of building on those points. Why do we sit back with a little point difference, and don’t give us a chance to build up on those points so that if there is an error, it won’t affect us so easily. We play with no room for errors. There is talent on this team to score. We just don’t do it. Lets go out there and get this win from Denver, and keep rolling. I know we have the talent to do it. Lets go 49ers.

Carr looked like he had not practiced with the team on Sunday. I expected more from him vs. being paid $2M to carry a clipboard. It’s time to see what Troy Smith can do with an eye toward the rest of the season and next year. The 49ers need to find their quarterback. Alex Smith has not proven himselp to be that quarterback yet.

Who know’s maybe he’ll be the next franchise QB for us. Give him a chance. After all that’s all Montana and Young needed (not comparing him to them at all). But change is good, and it needs to happen. Also Anthony Davis needs to be benched, put Chilo Rachal, who’s a vet and not as penalized. We need max protection and good balls.

I was at every OSU home game Troy Smith played his entire career at OSU, met him and Ginn several times at charity events in Cleveland. He is a freak of nature. Everyone counts him out because of his height but he is the same size as Breeze. He has a cannon for an arm, can outrun everyone on the field but Ginn, and can actually lead. I never understood why GM’s in the NFL over look the most important statistic for college QB’s… WINS!! Troy is a winner and congrats to the 9ers for finally starting him. Now maybe you can salvage your season and get a glimpse of you future starting QB that can bring the team back from the depths.

  96. By A_Ninerfan on Oct 27, 2010 | Reply

I laugh when I read all the “true” Niner fans pushing for Nate Davis, the only reason he looked decent in the preseason is because…. it was the preseason! Anybody can look good playing against 3rd stringers and low level draft picks.

Alex Smith is a bust, at his best you get a 30% chance of good play. Carr cannot play without a strong offensive line, we dont have one yet. Nate Davis played like crap when they threw him in against starters and 2nd stringers in the preseason.

I think its Troy Smith’s mobility that makes him our best option on the roster for Sunday. If anything, maybe he can run for the 1st down.

I am a true Niner fan for life and have been frustrated for some time now but I never stopped supporting the team no matter how bad it got.

This isnt the 1st time the Niners lost their identity (and most of their games) due to crappy QB (i.e. DeBerg) coaching and ownership, remember the years of losing BEFORE Eddie came to town?

Let’s get it!!! I’m sorry but I’ve been a Niner fan from birth, but I never saw Alex Smith in a Niner uniform jus never seemed right, plus the fans have lost all confidence in him, that showed in the Eagles game. Troy smith at least has the ability to move out of the pocket, since our O-line hasn’t been consistent every game, but hey we got new guys workin in the system it’s all good! That’s why Troy is the obvious better choice, Even if Carr was better, Troy would have taken the spot anyway. And the season is not over we jus gotta man up support our Niners, even if it is jus for a winning record at the end of the season, GOOD LUCK TROY, SHAKE THEM HATERZ OFF AND LETS GET IT!!!!

Ive been a long time SF fan from the east coast and I’m very disappointed at the mismanagement of a young talented team. Let’s resign ourselves to the fact that Alex Smith is a back up quarterback, he has not demonstrated, after all of his years in the NFL, leadership qualities and even the professionalism to make the right decision at the right time.

GET HIM OUT……As for Carr, he’s not capable to lead this team. What in the hell happened to Nate Davis who, in my opinion, is better than both of those bums. This is a young team with loads of talent that only needs leadership on the field and if the coaching staff continues to show a lack of, then they should all go……love singletary but call it what it is…he may be limited to a defensive specialist…being a head coach maybe outside of his realm. SF has got the young talent, now go out and get a season QB whose not afraid to be a leader. The team had their chance with Micheal Vick who would have been a good fit.

I hope he shows his stuff and the other QB’s never get back at starter. If he blows it we need to find a new QB when we have number one draft pick next year. I think we are very close we just need a leader. Someone said something about Alex was starting to find his groove. What games have you been watching???? He couldn’t find a groove if the earth opened up and swallowed him. He is NEVER going to take us to the big show. GREAT MOVE!!!!!! Good luck Troy!!!!

Firstly Alex Smith is not the number 1 draft bust… that dubious title would have to go to Jamarcus Russell……. and I would agree that Troy Smith need to be given a chance to see what he can do with ball. But niner4life … you have to remember Alex had like 4 OCs.. during his career with the niners… never really had a chance to settle into a consistent offensive scheme. I do think we need to cut our losses and try to get him out of a niner uniform. Sad to see … but true…:( And why in the hell did we get rid of Nate Davis?????

The O-line dont do a good enough job blocking thats why alex has to rush the throws and makes mistakes. we would have won in carolina if alex didnt get hurt. we would for sure beat denver if he was healthy. and when he does return we will win the division on alex smiths shoulders! i been a Faithful for 25 years and i ride with the team win or lose with the talent we got!

Fellow Niner Fans!! It’s exciting to see Troy Smith getting a start for us! Let’s face facts, Alex is not panning out like we hoped, we spent a ton of money for a “less than stellar” number one pick.
    It happens.
Carr IS NOT the answer. His record in Houston clearly shows that he is an under-achiever.
I hope that our coaching staff maintains….without panic. We have a lot of talented players in all aspects of the game.
It’s easy to point fingers when our record isn’t what we expect as fans. the truth is, we have made some mistakes that cost us wins. The players have to be accountable as much as the coaching staff!
We have been so close, with the exception of Seattle and KC.
This week, and after the bye,a couple of wins while Troy is the starter, there will most definitely be a competition for QB.
    GO NINERS!!!!

Carr has not been given a chance. Sing lied to him abou this. My peeps say he and Carr, mostly Carr, had quite an exchange. “Why bring me in if I don’t get a shot? No first team snaps in two weeks and you expect me to perform? Why? I had offers in Cleveland and Arizona, and NY offered me more to stay on as a back-up. You won’t start me and you keep Alex in after 9 interceptions?

    – Agreed. Why bring him in if you don’t give him a chance to prepare as the starter? This is at least what he had in NY, and check his clean up stats there with other subs. Very Good!

    – Word is the the change in QB’s came from the GM. Word. This just goes to show how little in control Sing is, or the administration.

Great players. Good job there. Very poor management in every other area. Go 49ers. Will be there vs Rams.

For all of you who wanted Carr(Glen) how blind can you be? He had a chance albeit a short one. Did you not see him under throw Davis by like 5 yards on a 25 yard corner route? or that pathetic attempt at a throw to Ginn? Ginn had 3 on him and hadn’t looked back still Carr under threw it. He has no arm strength, and he can’t read defenses. Honestly our best chance for the rest of the season would be to let Carr go, bring up Nate Davis and let him try to develop. I think Troy Smith is also a good option. No way Carr is an answer to our problems i think my mom could throw farther then that POS

I’m recorded in 2007 on a national radio show saying that San Fran should have picked up Troy Smith then. The OSU offense is close to the 49er offense aside from one being college and one being pro. Besides, Troy Smith and Ted Ginn Jr. will make an excellent match up. I’m stoked!!

    NINER QB OPTION……
Million excuses Alex Smith = small hands, use to playing a spread offense in college, can’t play under center, different offensive coordinators, needs more protection, no receivers to throw to. Ohh!!! but he’s a nice guy and very smart.

Texans 1 round nightmare Carr= total bust, holds on to the ball to long, can’t look off receivers, too short gets ball batted down at the line of scrimmage, Ohh!! but he has a good arm just can’t get it to his receivers. Also nice guy.

Baltimore reject Troy Smith= came from baltimore a team known for producing great QB, Got beat out by Kyle Boller, Drarted 5 round, NFL experience unknown, Ohhh!! He won the Heisman in 06. That should be good enough lets start him even though he has no Knowledge of our offense it’s OK he can learn it in less that a week.

Much more better options that Mr NATE DAVIS…..

Troy smith only played 4 games last year for the raven but he only got a little over a 100 yard a game…but her does have dave and crabtree to throw two and if he cant connect with them we go have a great running game…but with the running gan=me we need to start running with all three running back and save gore for some of the so clled harder games when we will most definately his skills…i hope that troy can command the team till alex gets back and we should win again the weak broncos…next year i think they should cut carr and place davis on the depth chart at 2nd or 3rd string…i think that davis is still alittle young to be a good start but just give him a couple years i ithink that he would be a good qb for us…don’t cut the niner out just yet…the nfc west is in shambles we can still with thte division or at least a wild card game we just need a cople of win in a row and we will be an unstoppable force…confindence is key!!!

I like to see Nate Davis before the end of the season he shows great QB ability but I doubt he will get a chance this season…They should have made him the second QB from the start and he should be starting Sunday.

They like to play musical chairs because coaches are not sure what they are doing. Must be hard to be a player for that team…I hope Troy plays well enough to make it through the end of the season so this organization can move on at QB position.

Troy I believe is our best bet maybe even for the long run because of his ability to run around and make plays and not get killed, hopefully. If theres one team i cant stand is the broncos so count on me loosing my voice this sunday no matter the outcome. Come on troy we need this one to start the spark for us. Go Niners!!!

My vote is for Nate Davis. The guy just looked good, and will only get better with experience. Maybe pick up JaMarcus Russell to work with as a back up. Lose Alex Smith and Carr for sure. A Smith has proven for years that he can’t win.

    From die-hard 49er fan to 49er team,
I for one do not blame any of you for your slow start. The blame must be placed squarely upon the shoulders of those that are paid to properly utilize your strengths and coach any weakness you may have out of you. Those people failed you and in the process they failed your fans.
    Always faithful

Troy Smith quote ” Who’s number 1 on the field and number 1 in everybody hearts…”

I agree with Couch’s decision, David should have been ready to go in carolina, his game play sealed his fate. Don’t be discouraged Dave just be ready to go, good chance you’ll get those reps you wanted so this time be ready, and remember the best way to win over niner fans is to win. Good luck troy, this would be nate if it was all about a big arm. It’s about faith Alex, you believe in your team, they believe in you, you work hard, you sacrafice, you get back up, you have no fear, you display leadership, your ball valacity has increased, and were 1-6 and your injured 2-3 weeks. All of this is by design it’s for a reason. Continue to fight and keep the Faith the answer will appear soon.

  144. By tom on Oct 28, 2010 | Reply

if some one of the 49er factually is reading this. The general manager must get jeff garcia back for the 49ers. Garcia put the 49ers in the in the playoffs, and with so much talent on the 49ers right now, Jeff Garica must be hired for QB. Jeff Garica is in Canada, come on, are you serious. Get Garcia, PLEASE. Thanks

First off i have no clue why we dropped Nate Davis he looked very good in preseason, i dont even want to think of david carr touching that football again he looked like a freshman quarterback, absolutely pathetic. He can only throw the ball 30 feet max. How can you be in the nfl with such a week arm.

HEY 49er head office if your seeing this how about looking into Daughnte( not sure of the spelling) Culpepper. I hear his knee is 100% and he is hungary for a chance to redeem himself in the NFL . I think hes playing in the UFL ??? GO NINERS – PLAY HARD – PLAY SMART !!!!! LOYAL FAN WIN, LOSE, or DRAW!!!

I’m excited about this. Why not give Troy a try. What have we got to lose. Any change would be welcome to me. It hurts to watch these games. Good luck Troy!!!!

Well Troy gets a new start. As much as i’m a niner fan, smith or carr wasn’t the answer, Coach Sing is playing Politics unfortunetly, Our defence is ready and gud but if the offence struggles then the defence will. Win Lose or Tie Niner til i die. We will do better.

I have been a loyal fan thru good and bad times ,with haters in my own family like packer fan and charger fan and even a chiefs fan. And he has real nerves because the chiefs have been pathetic for years and and havent won anything since the days of stram, dawson, lanier. But i am always a 49er fan,but i have had enough of alex smith they should have dumped this guy three years ago ,he shows no sign of gatting any better he’s stills making wild throws and rookie mistakes,he has been stealing money for three years come on mgmt. dump this guy already he has been stealing money for three years.Give troy a chance the 49er image is tarnished enough . Spend some money for a change and get a good free-agent QB that will give us a chance to win

Time to be the voice of reason we all seem to need. the season is not over untill the team quits. And like a team of fans who seem to quit on the season I stand up for the faithfull every sunday. I sit and watch sometimes in horrid dis beleif at what im seeing. However, alex smith getting hurt was not fun to watch in the pain department but I still found delightful. Carr was put in a position to fail on purpose. If he looked bad enough you would have a good reason to sell your fans and team on T. Smith. Either way you look at it this was designed to give us the impression that Carr is a bust. A. smith is a bust. Sorry folks but it doesnt take 5,6,7 years to figure out how to play in the NFL. Just ask A. Rogers B. uselessberger j. Flacco S. Bradford M. Ryan and the list just goes on. N. Davis is still young enough to add to the list but untill he shows what he can do when it counts it will never matter. T smith has his shot. I give him 2 games to figure out if he has it or not. he is an awsome athlete with a lot of tallent. Davis is a lot of tallent but little in the way of development. We dont have time to wait for davis in our situation. So let smith and carr go draft R. Mallett from Ark and keep T smith and n davis. let them fight for their role and watch 3 talented players give us reason to belive now and later. i belive in the 9ers and always will. i dont belive in A smith. And i sure as the heck dont belive in the so called fans who have quit just like m lewis and that other scrub who couldnt handle his role.

Carr is a pre-season quarterback. he can win when it doesn’t matter. There is a reason he is second string. I don’t know how good Troy Smith is but he is a Heisman winner. Let’s hope there’s more to him than we have been seeing out of Smith and Carr. It would be nice if our O-Line actually protected the quarterback though … that’s been a big problem for more than a couple of years.

About time this guy got to start he was good with the Ravens and now he gets a chance if it wasnt for mono he wouldve started the whole season Flacco’s rookie year I’m a Ravens fan but I know for a fact you guys will love this man a QB

Sorry to say but NO PLAYERS are the answer at this point NO PLAYERS.

We need a seasoned GM and a JIM Harbaugh or a real Head Coach with a REAL Coaching system with a REAL plan that understands ALL aspects of the GAME.

Alex Smith, Troy Smith, Nate Davis, Frank Gore, our TERRIBLE DEFENSSE are not going to thrive in this “KEYSTONE COPS” Atmoshphere. I’m a HUUUUGE fan but I also know the game very well and am a realist. I’ll live and die a NINER but this COACHING STAFF is a complete joke. 2 & 1/2 seasons with Singeltary A coach who has ZERO Coordinating experience, ZERO and he’s a head coach for 2 & 1/2 SEASONS are you KIDDING ME-Time TO GET SOME GONE!!!!!!!!!

  156. By Johne B on Oct 29, 2010 | Reply

Troy Smith…OK Alex Smith “NOT OK”!! This will work until Nate Davis moves up the depth ladder! So OK let see…the last Troy we met in Dallas cost us a couple of “Championships”, so LETS SEE WHAT THIS TROY’s got!! Go Niners!!

  157. By SeanO on Oct 29, 2010 | Reply

Anyone is better than Carr. He seems far too gunshy. Troy should get a chance, he only started 2 games for Baltimore and was 1-1. Nate Davis is more of a work in progress with his lack of ability to learn the plays. But this team is ready for a run soon, with the young offensive line which will play better the longer its together, a young defense including several key younger players… P. Willis, P. Haralyson, M. Lawson, N. Clements, D. Goldson, T. Mays even looks good. No penalties. No turnovers. And this team has the talent to win every single game.

  158. By SeanO on Oct 29, 2010 | Reply

Sorry. Nate Clements. Not Young. Lol

  159. By 9erforever on Oct 29, 2010 | Reply

Players can come and go, but as long as we have the current coaching staff the Niners won’t have any success for a long, long time.

The Niners have good quality players mostly from the draft over the last few years. But as long as the Niners keep their current offensive and defensive philosophy, they will be no better than average at best. The Niners head coach may be good with players on a personal level, but his coaching skills are not NFL ready.

I wish the best for the Niners and hope for their sake they will make some coaching changes.

Troy Smith is everything San Francisco needs.. I’ve been a fan of Alex for a long time now, but Troy can do everything Coach wants. And with a young but powerful O-line, a scrambling QB with Troy’s skill set is best for the time being. I say we keep Alex as a second string.

lets keep troy as a stater we need a big change the team played decent with him in carr needs to be released and bring davis up from the practice squad we still need to open up the field but we have a better chance doing that with troy in he can scamblie and make plays happen GO NINERS
