Gore Receives Crystal Inspiration Award

Posted by Lisa Goodwin on October 15, 2010 – 3:02 PM

During Friday’s practice at the 49ers facility in Santa Clara, the team hosted Tyre Shamir, an 18-year-old native of San Francisco diagnosed with cerebral palsy with spastic quadriplegia, and his family to fulfill one of his life-long dreams.

The visit came as a wish from Tyre to meet his hero, 49ers running back Frank Gore, and present him with a Crystal Inspiration Award through the When U Dream A Dream Foundation.

Following practice, Tyre and Lawrence Pleskow, President of from the When U Dream A Dream Foundation, presented Gore with the award. This award is given out to only four people annually for their accomplishments, in this case, Gore’s football accomplishments. Although, Tyre has trouble forming sentences, he played a message for Gore through his computer. It said, “Hi Frank Gore, it is nice to meet you. I have been a 49ers fan since I was a baby. Offense, offense!”

Tyre not only met Gore following practice, but 49ers rookie offensive lineman Anthony Davis and Mike Iupati stopped by to say hello during practice , and a majority of the team stopped by  after practice to sign autographs for Tyre. Tyre and his family were also given a tour of the 49ers facility, autographed memorabilia, watched practice from the sidelines and enjoyed lunch in the 49ers café.

During the visit, Tyre was unable to express his excitement verbally, but his mother Nadine knows it was a moment he’ll always remember.

“I would say this is a dream come true for him,”  Nadine said. “He has been wanting to be around and go to a live football game, or a real football game, as he calls it, but it’s so hard maneuvering him around so I’m really happy for him. He’s always wanted to come to a real live football game, and now to see the practice and come to the game (on Sunday) as well, this is a moment he will never forget.”

And anyone who was able to witness Tyre at the practice facility would agree with his mother’s thoughts. His eyes lit up and his smiles were from ear to ear throughout the entire day.

Tyre and his family will be attending the 49ers home game against the Raiders this Sunday and will be on the field before the game to watch the teams warm up.

The opportunity came through the When U Dream A Dream Foundation, which heard Tyre was a Frank Gore fan. For more information on When U Dream A Dream Foundation, please visit http://whenudreamadream.org/.
