49ers Announce Roster Moves

Posted by Taylor Price on October 12, 2010 – 3:05 PM

Late Tuesday afternoon, the 49ers announced they have claimed S C.J. Spillman off waivers from the San Diego Chargers. In order to make room on the roster for Spillman, the team waived CB Tramaine Brock. FB Jehuu Caulcrick has also been released from the team’s practice squad.

Spillman (6-0, 199), was signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He played in five games as a rookie (1 start), totaling seven tackles. In 2010 with the Chargers, Spillman played in five games, tallying six special teams tackles.

Born in Louisville, KY, Spillman graduated from Marshall University where he was a two-time second-team All-Conference USA honoree, totaling 319 career tackles and three interceptions.

This game is the season with out a doubt for us, we win, still have hopes of winning the west if we lose, season over. Can’t win 1 in 6 you don’t deserve a pay check………. GET SMITH THE ….. OUT OF THE GAME . HE’S HAD 6 YEARS TO PROVE IT, HE’S NOT A PRO QB BY ANY MEANS. THE ONLY RECORD HE”LL BREAK IS FAVRE’S INT RECORD… NATE DAVIS LOOKED LIKE A GOOD QB TO ME!!!!!! NOTHING’S GOING TO CHANGE WITH SMITH IN CHARGE, CASE CLOSED………………

I was born a niner fan. Stuck with them through thick and thin. This last 6 years I feel like all I do is defend them. They are a good team. It’s not all Smith’s fault. Would I like to see him benched? Of course. But these close games were not single handedly lost by Smith. Anyway the frustration is mounting. I pay alot of money to watch the 9ers on Direct TV and now I feel like they are competeing for a #1 draft pick. Bring on the Panthers. Lets win this thing.

Does anyone see this or is it me? Alex Smith apparently is not the man for the quarterback position. It seems that when all else fails then he starts to play football, at least then he earns the millions we are paying him to show up!!!!!!!
Please help, the fans were definitely not ready for another losing year. How many years does it take to rebuild a team after all our greats have gone. Please help.

we need not only smith out of there but a legit deeo threat and furthermore why are we the only team not making moves to improve the team we can still get vicent jackson he wants off the chargers and we got the poicks so whats the problem. the yorks just need to get rid of not only smith but singletary also because hes the one who still has smith in and making the team loose this is niot hte 85 bears he’s not play and ditka’s not the coach

BENCH ALEX SMITH…….Bring Nate Davis back up from the practice squad, and start the CARR for now. We can still make it, but it is getting tougher. Alex you are a nice guy, but you can’t quarterback. Time to find another occupation pal. Best of luck…..Go 49ers….Playoffs or bust.

Before we take out Alex Smith.. Please remember that we have TWO ROOKIES starting on the offensive line.. We all expected great things from them since they were promoted to be starters but DAVIS puts the offense in holes every week with his False Starts.. Its easy to blame Alex but I think that we overlook the fact that he has not had the protection necessary..

When Eddie D hired Walsh, he said his job would be safe as long as Walsh beat the Raiders everytime they play each other. I’m sure the same holds true today with Jed and Sing.

I guess like everyone else I was hoping this would be about Smith but new in my heart if it was it would have been a bigger story. For God’s sake, it’s been 6 years! Exactly how long does it take for the organization to call it a bust…

if it means getting a win then welcome to the team. Alex Smith is a good Quarterback when he has time to throw the ball and when he stops forcing his throws. I’m a Niners fan now and forever and I believe they will turn this season around but if we as fans don’t believe in them then we won’t win. I say to Alex Smith show us your heart and take the Niners to the top again cause I know you have it in you.

You seriously call that a roster move! Come on! How bout Nate Davis brought up to backup Carr, and Smith moved to third QB! Im sticking with the Niners all the way, but we could go out at least swinging!! This guy just cannot get it done!(Smith)

I would like to believe in the new comments of Mr. Alex Smith, but I can’t. I have to see him in the next games. We can still play catch up in our division and get better results. I do not matter if we lose again but at least that we lose with honor because the other team was better than us, not because unthinkable offensive plays and quarterback stupidity. Everybody said how smart is our current quarterback, but I was in the stadium in the last game and that fumble made him look so bad. As a fan, I am not sure at this point if the owners, trainers, coaches and roster (with the exception of the defense) even care about the results and how the public sees the Niners. Still, I remain a fan and a tailgater no matter if they care, if they lose or win.

I say we trade the first round draft pick and go with a more experienced Q.B. kurt warner , michael vick, who knows they me sign with the right amount of $$$$$$$

Niner fans, I am as frustrated as any of you are but let’s face some ugly facts, Smith is not our only big problem! First of all everyone who is calling for Carr ,Davis or T. Smith can forget it. None of those guys are the answer so QB needs to be looked at later. Have you not noticed that our defense can’t make a stop when we need too.We can’t put consistant pressure on the QB without blitzing, are db’s stink and our safety’s can’t make the big play or hit for that matter. The one thing that is being overlooked is we are getting out coached in a big way. Our staff can’t make adjustments during the game until it’s too late and we are getting out matched. I like Mike Singletary but not as a head coach right now. So if you think Alex Smith is are only problem you are fooling yourself!!!!!!!!

I Think we should give Alex one more week. I hope he has finally learned his lesson on trying to make things happen. Take the sack and move on.I think he is looking sharper and is starting to make plays.Smith and Crabtree had a connection last week and need to keep that going.Alex still has a chance to make this happen if he just play’s smart the whole game. We have to beat the Raiders or i won’t hear the end of it.

We need a few changes. I had so much high hopes for us this year. And I am tired of defending our team. They need to realize there is true fans that ride or die for the niners. Pay a lot of money in support of our team. They need to return the love back to the fans we need a winning team.

The one bright spot is the offence did look more creative with crabtree going over a hundred yards. If we don’t win and now the whole team will be blown up next year and we will have to deal with the rebuilding excuse for 3 more years… since Alex is starting next week I hope he plays well cause everyones job is on the line.

The 49ers season has been over since the Yorks took ownership of the organization. Those of you that blame Mike Nolan for Alex smith don’t remember our GM who forced nolan to take smith. Nolan didn’t want him. Lets be honest, the 49ers have problems that will take at least 5 more seasons to fix if they started now.
There won’t be an NFL season next year thank you collective bargaining and a bunch of overpaid rookies, most of which are plaguing our roster!!

It is obvious Smith is not going to be the one, it has been six years, and I understand he has been in a rough spot with constant oc changes but still, he still makes stupid rookie mistakes. But our problem starts with the Yorks. They don’t care about this team, they don’t know football, they have no right owning a professional football team. We have SOO much talent that is so hard to watch us do this bad. Why would a team do this bad, not a single person upstairs that can tie everything together. Until the Yorks dedcide to sell the team to Steve Young we wont be good again. But dont get me wrong. even a DECENT qb would have gotten us into the playoffs this year. GIVE CARR A TRY

take smith out..lol. theres no other option. carr sux and so does troy smith. nate davis only did good against 3rd and 4th string preseason. best thing is to ride smith and draft next year or go after vick. Besides really its the WHOLE TEAM causing losses. one week its the line or fumbles or soft d. it hasnt been a constant of one thing. everytime does make a good play theres a penalty bringing it back. its the WHOLE TEAM not clicking

Bill Walsh told us to draft Aaron Rogers..Told us to draft Jake Plummer..Why do we just suck at picking up QB’s..We do have an all-star cast on this team..Sixth Offensive Cordinator..Its not them..Its Alex..Westbrook need some more playing time if Gore is going to fumble..I love the 49ers,but i dont have anything new to say..5-0 in superbowls is all i got..Go Niners

All of u so called fans get a grip 1st off. This is Alex’s 6th year in the league 1 of those years he didnt play a game oh and ryan mcmurray take some time and look at the #’s of wins and losses in steve youngs first 5 years and compare them to alex’s (remember he spent two years with the bucs his second year he was 2-12)hmmmmm. The bucks were pretty bad then, kinda like the 9ers when alex got here. The difference is simple young got to learn from montana and walsh. His first years with those bad buck teams he had 11tds and 21 picks. The reality is that Crabtree is not Rice, Morgan is not Taylor, Gore is not Craig or Waters, and Morris is not Raftman. O line is not close to the lines of the past and until vernon got his a** chewed by Sing he was not in the same catagory with Jones. So all of u quit living in the past. Im a real fan yea we’re 0-5 but not out of it. This week is a must win there are alot of guys that need to step up not just alex. This week is a must win and if we do mark my words we are going to run off 6 wins in a row. U heard it first here.

  47. By Eli Niner on Oct 12, 2010 | Reply

Pete Nice and Matt Merritt called it.Sing is good but we need an offensive minded coach. The Defense needs to pressure and we need some d.b.s with some speed. Yorks need to go and give the team back to Eddie D. They should know niners fans cannot stand them by now. Yorks are ruining what the niners once were.

  50. By Cody on Oct 12, 2010 | Reply

to those who don’t know anything about football alex smith is not the problem yea it is easy to blame one guy for what we are going through. but the truth is that our o line sucks and play calling is horrific! don’t think just cause you get rid of smith that all problems are solved there is a lot more going on than just the quarterback!

  51. By niner3780 on Oct 12, 2010 | Reply

z9ners I absolutely agree with you, Alex smith hasn’t been the main fault for there struggles. Our O-line is young and they are really showing there age they cant open up running lanes and when Smith is playing good they always let the the other team get clean shots at him! Half of his interceptions have come from tipped balls, receivers not catching the ball and people hitting Alex as he has thrown the ball, dont get me wrong he hasnt been great but i believe he has played better then a majority of QB’s this year. Gore needs to stop fumbling, receivers need to be more consistent and our defense needs to stop people in the fourth quarter, and our O-line needs to start blocking. Its a team sport one guy cant always be blamed for the losses.

  52. By 9er4ever on Oct 12, 2010 | Reply

@z9ers…there is no doubt that we are not the same team as we were back when we were winning super bowls, it will be hard for any team to ever play the way we did again, we were unstopable with that roster…but like you said this is his sixth year he shouldnt still be making such stupied mistakes. the number of wins and losses is not everything, i also look at how an athlete plays and smith will not ever be good. he just does not have it. and if you think we well when 6 strait, your just not being realistic

People understand this. I was born and raised in San Jose, the 49ers have been my boys since birth. Im 46 now and burnt out on bad decisions. Alex Smith Blows there is no argument about it, the last dude was right Alex has had 6 years to get it done and he can’t even bring us a 500 season. Singleterry, great player horrible coach. I dig Nate Davis, he’s young a great athlete and would be a great QB if we give him 1 year under his belt as a starter. We have a ton of talent at WR and the rest of the team, but we have no leadership at QB Alex needs to GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

We are (0-5) because of Alex as our QB. No Alex can’t single handedly lose for us. But with QB as the most important position, if your QB is not contributing he is losing the games. Just think, if we had even an average QB who is consistent we’d be (5-0) in my opinion. Alex is not an NFL Starter. He would be a great back-up, but Starter is a no-no. I believe we should still beat the Raiders. I hate them!

I’m a 49er from the days of John Brodie and Gene Washington. Like others I have been on the band wagon through thick and thin. Besides shooting ourselves in the foot we need the whole team to step up. Put a short leash on Smith and put Carr in ASAP. Use Westbrook more! Find some DB’s who can cover and tackle! I like Singleton too but he is getting outcoached. Successful 49er teams had more takeaways than turnovers. Let’s not take the Raiders lightly.

I have season tickets! I pay good money to watch this circus live. The way I figure it, I own a little smidgen of this team. As a fan since I was born, I’m willing to take the ups and downs. But to hear the crowd (and be apart of it) rain down the boos. And shower this Quarterback with discourse. Then not have a change granted, was down right disrespectful. Then for Smith to say he thought he was the only chance to fix it, is arrogant at best. How does he know the outcome of a substitution? I’ll be a Niner fan even long after I’m dead. But Sing and the Yorks aren’t giving enough attention to the people that keep their franchise rolling. Us! The fans!

Alex Smith s trying to play the game to safe which is causing lots of errors. When he lets loose, he has a great game. If he doesn’t let loose or Singletary doesn’t bench him, Singletary will be unemployed before season is over. Everyone has already held Alex’s hand, it shows that when he falls, he cant get back up on his own. Alex may not be the whole problem but he is a problem and we need to start the fix with him then go from there. Every year i look forward for bragging rights over the raiders, this year i dont care bout bragging i just want a win to start. LETS GET GOING NINERS

Coach Singletary NEEDS to Go. I do not think he has the talent to coach these young talents. He fired Mart as an offensive coordinator and now look at Chicago. I do believe we need a new coach for the 49ers. Mr Singletary is not the answer at all.

  80. By CrazyToro on Oct 13, 2010 | Reply

Our local paper in Salt Lake mentions ‘last chance for Alex?”. When I read that I thought are you kidding me? The last chance should have been last year. I think all of us are amazed we have players like Willis, Gore, Crabtree, and Lawson and are 0-5. The one ingredient we are missing is the QB. I’m not saying Carr is the answer, but we need a better QB to win this division.

One more note. This isn’t all Alex’s fault. Don’t forget we had two fumbles last week and the week before that we had a game winning interception that turned into a fumble. Like Mike said Sunday night, “we need to stop shooting ourselves in the foot”.

  81. By Eddie on Oct 13, 2010 | Reply

To some of the 49er faithful. You say that Carr, Davis or T. Smith is not the answer. How do we know that? From what I know N. Davis and D. Carr played well in the preseason. I know it was only preseason, but Alex Smith did terrible in the preseason and it carried over to the regular season. Why not try these other quarterbacks? We can use D. Carr for the next five games, then use Nate Davis for the remainder of the season. I know this is not good, but right now we need to try something. Go Niners!!

We are all blaming on the offense. The defense has done nothing to stop the enemy. A freaking running back with rib’s injury ran like candlestick was his house. We wanted to be the Ravens of the west, but that is we are nothing close to it.

  85. By Mr. Brown on Oct 13, 2010 | Reply

Yes, Alex Smith can take blame for the 49ers disappointing start. Our offensive line from what I see has not improved even with the two rookies plugged into the line up. Davis and Iupati are soft in the trenches and its obvious to see the other guys arent any better. The offensive play calling remains a question. I see the same conservative crap coming from the coordinator. Why sign Brian Westbrook if were not gonna use him. Anthony Dixon is a beast and should get more playing time instead of making Frank Gore the “workhorse”! Lets not forget he is vulnerable to injury. The defenses lack of athleticism on the back end is being exposed every game. The 49ers management can take a lot of blame also with their lowly draft picks and free agent moves. I say bring Nate Davis from the practice squad and give him an opportunity to prove himself. Oh yeah another offensive coordinator may not be a bad idea and finally your 10 million dollar man Nate Clements who has yet to make a pro bowl should be re-evaluated because the guy is simply washed up! I’ve been a faithful since ’88 and I’m just fed up. The results of this Oakland game could be my last hurrah! Mr. York please take notes from the Patriot organization. After all you just inherited money and a franchise and know nothing about building a football team.

Then do us real fans a favor and stop following cause we will win the west. the only team we are losing too is ourselves. Im sure that OUR COACH has a plan and if he has the faith in Alex Smith then so do i cause im a fan not a coach or any other part of the team. i agree with what Singletary said that Smith has the Greatest Potential out of all our QB’s so lets just have faith in our team. booing our OWN team AT home is just DISRESPECTFUL to EVERYONE did we really start becoming like the Pittburgh steelers fans plz shoot me if thats true cause we are suppose to be better then that as SF fans. so cheer up everyone we will win and stop whinning.

november 1957-kesar stadium – leo nonillini (tackle) sat in equipment room and
told a rookie to go and get him two raw steaks. he ate them in front of the entire
team. my uncle darwin (they were friends- that’s how i got into the games) asked
leo why? anwered “no particular reason, but it scares the hell out of the rookies”.
he went out and broke three ribs on Merlin Olsen that day. i think Merlin broke
leo’s nose-again! long time ago. irrelevant yes but rookies are rookies. this is
about all the above: alex has just about run out of time “coach said turn it loose
so I did?” well duh! do you really have to tell your starting qb to “turn it loose?”
that ain’t right. Offensive line is just that-offensive. you won’t get a quality qb
to come and play if you Oline is like the Buc’s was with Steve Young. nor will
frank gore last very long- so far more fumbles than I have seen from him since
he started playing. And yes the defense only stops people when it doesn’t matter. Def. coordinator Manusky’s or whatever his name is seems to be of
the same cloth as Raye. lots of talent but no knowhow. From head coach to
Offending coordinator- to an offensive Defensive coordinator. One of two
things: the raiders win and show Jed DORK how you adjust. Niners can’t!
Because their coaching staff can’t. Coaching staff can’t adjust because the
players don’t know how. Scripted game plan- if it works great and seeing as
it hasn’t worked so far-NOT SO GOOD! Waiting for Alex to mature as well as
all the other young starting rookies shows no balance: vets to rooks. gifted
rookies have to have the discipline and focus. but they also have to have a
coaching staff that can impart the skills, comprehension, vision of field. Only
Mike has those credentials. These other yeawho’s come from obscurity and
have coached previously in the same manner. And Mikey’s game plan is far
too antiquated. Loved Mike’s work: Defensively be offensive “tear their head
off and S**T Down their necks” quote unquote. It would appear that only
injury can make the necessary adjustments-the entire coaching staff can’t.

Go Niners I will be in Charlotte to cheer them on next weekend! Go Niners. I agree with zniners we are not the team of old, but rather than place blame on Alex, Gore lost two fumbles also in critical momentum shifting times. We put drives together and then shoot off our own feet! Yeah I think Alex Smith should be benched! Yes I think Carrr gets the keys and that he should get a chance. I mean what else could go wrong? We lose another five games? The heart is there for the team, but before we shoot it out of our own chests its time for a change somewhere either in team mentality or the roster. I believe in Coach Singletary. I feel he is doing the best with the hand he was dealt, and he is a man of his word and principals. I respect him very much! The guys need to step up for him before he is run out of San Francisco on a rail! Alex I wish you luck bro even though my faith in you is shaken I still am pulling for you! God bless you all and God bless the team and coach. I am a die hard fan, but these past few years have been rough. Shawn Hill is winning with the Lions for crying out loud. No, it isn’t all Alex’s fault, but 3 of the 5 games he sure diid not help them win. and 5-15 in your last 20 starts is not a good stat…nor is 43TD’s, 52 INT’s…isn’t that suppose to be the other way around…and that still would not be good!!

here is what i would do: Get Gruden or Cower for head coach, we will most likely get a good draft pick so lets get a qb with the first pick, go after Vick and sign him to a 2-3 yr contract. Next line of business will be getting defensive backs because ours cant cover anyone. For the rest of the season give carr a start, see how he does, then go from there. You are paying westbrook. Keep him and gore in the backfield at all times, its another worry for defenses. lastly, STOP RUNNING THE BALL UP THE GUT!! It obviously does nothing but wastes a down. We only average 1-2 yards/carry. Try something different. Theres a good chance we will be 0-6 after this week. Sorry I am 49er faithful, but also a realist. Unless something drastic happens at practice this week, we will lose. Oakland looks a lot better than us right now.

Imagine being Coach Sing?… Inherited a QB and hes the best one on the roster. Alex Smith have flashes of a great QB when I feel like defenses can’t stop him. Then there are times he completely shuts down and throws a pic or fumbles. However some or the fumbles are not just him DEF Crabtree has got to take blame for some of those….I agree with every1 else If A. Smith can’t lead the offense to a victory over the Raiders we gotta try something else… P.s. OBVIOUSLY Shaun Hill is playing pretty good with the lions

I have been a 49er fan since I could say football. so about 26 years. I love the 49ers through anything and everything. But everyone needs to relax about Smith. Someone made a great point, we do have 2 rookies on on the offensive line, and Smith hasn’t had the same offensive coordinator, in his 5 years of game time. He looked great when his job was on the line, and I hope he can find it inside of himself to be that QB all game long. I believe he just needs to break out of his shell, he has been hiding in it too long, and it’s time to shine.

As for blaming him for everything, That is WAY unfair. he isn’t the only one turning the ball over………….The 49ers are beating themselves, and until they find a way to play as a team, they will never win. Stop blaming just one person. Blame the whole team. You win as a team, and you lose as a team.

Ok first CrazyToro you mention the great players we have willis and gore but really lawson and crabtree. Lawson has under achieved since we drafted him he has never been an impact player and crabtree can be good but he has done nothing, this is crazy. Eddie carr and davis played well in preseason against backups so our backups are better than the other 4 teams that we beat. Oh and remember the two rookie lineman played almost the whole game. Oh and no I am not crazy to say 6 wins in a row, look at our schedule we can beat all of the teams till we get to greenbay. I would like to see Adam snyder back a guard we had our best balanced attack against the saints when he was the starter. Look here is the bottom line I think that this week will make or break our season. Alex played great last year when he had nothing to loose. Well here is the same situation I believe that we have played to conservative and it has cost us games. Alex has to throw the ball down the field. He did it against N.O. a few times and played decent, He did it in the later part of the game against Philli and looked good. Johnson has to take the cuffs off of alex and tell him to take shots down field. I like Sing but players have to play fearless and sometimes they can be over coached. Alex has been told to manage games that is wrong a player should be told to win games. Look Im not saying that Alex is the next star by any means, but I do believe he is the best QB on the team and when he played well it was taking shots down field from the spread. Our o line is not good enough to handle 8 men in the box. Spread is easier for everyone because it dictates coverage and blitzes. 6 in a row and it will start sunday @ 1:15.

Wow this is sooo crazy to me. Nate Davis isn’t ready yet, that’s why he was waived. And the fact that no other team tried to pick him off the waiver wire, not even for their practice squad, tells you that no-one else thinks he is ready yet either. Always been an Alex Smith fan, but he has to stop living on the potential and do something. Reluctantly agree that the Raiders game could be his last chance. Get Johnson to use Alex out of the spread, that’s what he knows. And we know from last season that it works with this offence. Use Gore, Dixon and Westbrook out of the backfield and start throwing the ball around. Or sadly Alex is gone!

Our defence is good as long as they don’t have to play 40mins of everygame. Any defence would get tired if you keep turning over the ball. Nate Davis is not a pro QB guys. Why is he on the practice squad??? Carr is not the answer, he has had 10 seasons to prove himself, we just dont have the bad taste in our mouth yet. Troy Smith??? Was a heisman winner, but I think that is what attracted us to him, not his QB play, just award. Hate to say it, Alex is our best option. But this is what worries me, if we do somehow turn our season around (i am optimistic because our schedule becomes favorable and 8-8 will win the division) and make the playoffs, does that mean we will resign Smith and go forward with him?? I have been a supporter of him, mainly because I am a supporter of any NINER through thick and thin (with the exception of Mike Coffer) but I don’t want us to think the turnaround was him instead of a soft schedule. Remember, Joe Montana was not a superstar at first, and well, Steve Young sucked as well in the beginning. Alex Smith has work to do but he is looking sharper as the weeks go on. he is getting more accurate but stull not protecting the ball and making the occasional stupid mistake that ends up being the difference between a w and L. By all rights we lost a couple heartbreakers and should not be 0-5. I am really interested to se how we play against the Raiders. Nate Davis however, got my attention in Pre-season. Already commented yesterday, but had to say more. I think we need to bring Nate Davis back and try him out. Kid has raw talent. You all saw that 65 yard bomb, and it looked effortless. He could probably toss an 80 yarder. What is the worst that can happen; we win a game. I mean really that is the worst case scenario is to win a game. What do we have to lose? Nothing. None of our quarterbacks could get us anything less since we have already which has been to lose all five games. We need to mix it up. Where the heck is Vernon? He hardly ever gets the ball and he is one of our biggest play makers. Nice to see Crabtree getting more balls, but now we need to get a quarterback in there that isn’t color blind and throwing to the other team. Nate Davis for the rest of the season baby. Salvage what we can and at the same time get him some live game practice so he will be ready for next year. 49ers forever.

What the hell are all of you guys talking about, do you understand football at all!!!!! I’m reading these things and wondering if I’m the only 49er faithful that has any idea what is going on here. We are simply at 3-2 team, whether our record shows it or not. Look at it. We have had 2 blow outs. Blow outs start at the beginning of the week not the beginning of the game. It was a bad game plan, bad execution, and bad coordinating when you lose to a team 31-6 or 38-10, but when you lose a game by 3 or less points you can bet that its a couple mistakes that lead to that.

Look at it in all of our 3 close loses, we clean up any one of those fumbles and we win the game it is just that simple. HOLD ON TO THE BALL GUYS!!!!! AND YOU WILL WIN OUT, I GUARANTEE IT!!!!!!! If we work on our ball security I whole heartedly believe that we go 11-5 this season, you just watch it. Even with Smith in the game. This isn’t rocked science guys, don’t turn it over and you don’t lose!!!!

Side note: Alex Smith is the best red zone quarterback in the league right now, remember that before you call for his head. And this isn’t just me going against Carr, I’m a Fresno State senior hes home grown and I love the guy, but Alex has got the goods as soon as he learns to let it fly and let the ball fall as it may.

our problem is not only alex smith, though i agree in crucial moments he makes a crucial mistake, but the coaches need to let him get in a rythym, not throw the ball a couple of times and see good gains and then run the ball 5 times in a row. if the coaches dont show confidence in letting him loose a lil more than how is he ever going to have the confidence in himself.. and gore isnt getting it done and gets brought down way to easy. they need to bring in dixon for a change of pace runner and wear the defense down a little, then maybe well see the old gore breaking the long runs again.

Alex is DONE we all see that talk about happy feet we have good WR’s nobody 2 get the ball 2 them bottom line , make the trade 4 mike vick we r not that far away if we go out and trade 4 some people CB DL i think YORK is just 2 STENGY with our money !

Alex Smith needs to calm his mind down and stop thinking about everything. I’ve heard about he’s a smart QB. And he’s always asking questions. Just play the game. The game against the Saints was all the proof I needed. I think Alex Smith can be the future if he’d just play his type of football now. Crabtree and Davis need to quit posing after every catch. Gore needs to hold on to the ball. And Willis needs some help on defense. He can’t be running after everybody on every play. We need some shut down corners and a safety who can be a leader on every play. I know Alex has the team on his shoulders, but let him play. He needs to get frustrated with himself before he can be the player I know he can be. Let’s go Niners we’re not done yet. And coach Singeltary has done a good job of bringing these guys around. I felt has though management step in when it came to the decision of sticking with Smith. He was fired up after benching V. Davis. But when asked about the QB position he held his head down. Let’s go coach. Don’t stop being the man God has called you to be. Niners will beat all the remaning teams and win the division.

most of you are retarded alex smith finally got weapons and he actually throwin the ball … do you guys remember that frank gore fumbled 2 timeS last week . he got 4 already this season and he aint gettin no yards thats a big problem and whats even more crazy is everyone wants david carr he is a hell of a bust he is no good all he do is run around the backfield wow do some research for real . DAVID CARR IS A BUST HE SUX AND WON’T DO NOTHING FOR THE TEAM …. FRANK GORE AINT DOIN NOTHING BUT FUMBLING THATS ALL HE GOOD FOR … AND OUR ROOKIE RT IS HORRIBLE … BLAME THE COACH AND JED YORK FOR HIRING THE RETARD COACH !!!!!!!!!

We had a choice betweeen Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers. We took Smith and have watched him struggle. Rodgers is doing well in Green Bay. Awe shucks, we picked the wrong guy. Did we really? What would have happened to Rodgers if he had started his first year and then been beaten down because we can’t field an O-line that can protect the quarterback? How would Smith be playing now if he had the privilege of mentoring under Brett Favre for several years before taking a snap? I think we would be singing the same tune regardless of the pick. It would be “get Rodgers outta here?” A recent self professed niners fan posted a comment that we should bring in CArr. The poster defended this position by explaining that the reason Carr had not been successfull was that Carr did not have a line that could protect him. Apparently this person had not watched any of the games this year. It is frustrating to watch the collapse of the offensive line. It is frustrating to watch Gore try “one more up the middle.” It is frustrating to watch the defense play great for 2 downs and then give up 3rd and long. But what is most frustrating is listening to people look for a scapegoat and place the blame of team failure on a single player.

I agree with those who think the future AND the present is Nate Davis. I don’t know what it is that Singletary has against him, but there is definitely something there. He was put all the way down, so he wouldn’t cause Alex to look over his shoulder. I think Nate made a comment directly to Alex. I can’t say that for sure, but that’s what it looks like. How else could Mike be totally blind to what Nate has.Regardless, Alex has no talent. Every up and comer has a day where he shines, ALEX 0 in 6 years.

Alex Smith is a joke he has been with the niners way to long and has done nothing for them.. York needs to get a clue find us a QB who knows how to play football…

Rock on Mark Marin. I’m with you. Bring in Nate Davis. If we have to start the CARR for now fine, but bring up the new guy and we will win some games. Heck even Steve Young looked pretty good on Monday Night Football. Lets give him some pads and have him come back for the rest of the season. Looks younger and in better shape then Farve. Go 49ers.

I’ve been a fan since ’69. FRom the beginning I would rant about past busts Plummer, Drunkenmiller, the guy opposite plummer, losers.Smith, middle linebacker who led the team in tackles…none of which were in the backfield, mostly 7-8 yards down field. I’m not as narrow minded as most fans neither. How many agree with this, although a good QB Steve Young does not belong in the hall of fame. One ring earned and a 8-7 playoff record shouldn’t get you there. Kerry Collins has a better playoff record and so does…..Stabler, Joe Theisman, Plunkett [8-1 and 2 rings], Dilfer,Mark Rypien, Phil Simms, Jeff Hostetler, Doug Williams, Brad Johnson,Rich Gannon, and by the way they all earned a ring too!

To all of you folks that keep posting, that we are not 49er faithful, because we are upset and want changes not excuses need to shut the hell up! I was born a 9er fan and I too have been through thick and thin, but enough, is enough…we have been THIN for too long now, it doesn’t take this long to rebuild if the people in charge want to win. Brandon Lloyd over Anquin Boldin…dumb. Alex Smith over Aaron Rogers…dumber, that kid was in our own backyard, and we couldn’t get it right…he was small people complained, well Alex played in the spread, which doesn’t translate well to the NFL, and yes that means Tebow will also be a bust also. Alex struggles because he can’t read defense quick enough when he is under center, and unless we are gonna play outta the gun all game, we need a QB that can do that. And for those wanting a deep threat…if Alex can’t find the check down man on the blitzing side, then how the hell is he going to find anyone streaking down field. I will never jump ship, but if we lose to Chokeland, i’m packing this season in people. 49er fan for life!!!!!!!!!!!

  154. By philthy49 on Oct 13, 2010 | Reply

I agree coach-marquise! I think we will see a change if we stpped paying to come see them…the problem is….we aren’t protesting, we are still one of the few losing teams that will sell out a game, and until that changes….why would York spend any real money. I am asking in advance that no one brings up Nate Clements and the $$$$$ we gave him, I think that would push me over the edge, and I just might throw my laptop.

To sdakota9er your right this is not high school u don’t get five years to get developed this guy is a BUST , lets face it stop playing and bring up NATE DAVIS he is ten times better than alex put N NATE DAVIS put N NATE DAVIS but mike don’t like his work ethnic and thats Y he won’t put him N and your right again frank gore slips 2 much gets mad when he gets subbed out what has frank gore done 4 us lately nothing ! Alex might B smart just not football smart straight up we could never let him run the O like Manning his feet R to happy i ‘m sorry i ‘m just keeping it real put N NATE DAVIS AND JED YORK spend some money stop locking up Gatorade when u get a tax write off 4 that lets play the QB we have NATE DAVIS !

damn you guys are draging Gore in to this,
Gore didnt cause 2 turnover every game.
Gore hardly fumbles the ball but i am blaming
Alex Smith he has 2 INT in every game so you
can see wat we need to work on.its him being
smart with the ball and not turning it over in every game
i bet if he doesnt turn the ball over or if he only threw
1 INT and no fumbles from him we still win the game.

Go Niners! I agree with a “fan for life” through thick or thin. Every team, every season can’t be a winner! I feel they should give Nate Davis a try. Don’t feel Carr has the potential either! Good luck Niners and have faith!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  160. By anthonyfromTexas on Oct 14, 2010 | Reply

Go Niners, with you all the way, Don’t put in Carr, already seen him with the Texans, watched videos on youtube about Nate Davis and he is the answer, how many times is it gonna take for singletary to chew out smith for doing bad , seems like every game he is throwing interceptions

  161. By ZachA on Oct 14, 2010 | Reply

I agree with most of you…..Smith has had a chance to shine and hasn’t capitalized. Our defense is garbage! We cant never make a stop on 3rd down and our DB’s suck and are terrible in coverage. I have faith in Taylor Mays cause he’s new and has promise but Nate Clements sucks! He always gets burned and is getting the big bucks for it. A.Smith will be a descent back up but shouldnt be a starter, hopefully we can pick up a veteran next year because this franchise cant wait around for another first round pick to “blossom”. Who feels me?????????

I agree that Alex Smith has made some awful decisions at QB this year but he has also rallied the troops late in games to bring them back to close games. There have been missed field goals this year that have lost us games so should we bench Joe Nedney? Frank Gore fumbled twice last week … should he be benched? At the end of the day Smith has been 2nd string quarter back behind Shaun Hill for the season or so before this and look where Hill got us?! there is no point in straight up benching Smith and starting Davis or Carr because they wouldn’t have a clue how to deal with the D’s coming at them. they need time to get into the real world of NFL. Let them play 3rd and 4th quarter football if Smith makes a mess but dropping him now would leave us with a record possibly worse than 2-14.

  164. By Hermie on Oct 14, 2010 | Reply

OK, lets get real now. I like Nate’s arm, but you know Sing. is not going to bring him up from the practice squad when they “traded” for Troy Smith. At this point you know the first one in is Carr…The next one after that will be Troy. I personally have no knowledge of the type of QB Troy is…but at this point am ready and I believe we will find out about one of them in our system shortly! I just want the 9ers to win.

  168. By Joseph on Oct 14, 2010 | Reply

How come nobody blames the O line or the backs for not doing their job. I am not an avid Alex smith fan but to only blame him for these losses is ridiculous. Have we had a 100 yard rusher this year? I do remember Frank fumbling twice sunday. I do remember Nate fumbling the game sealing INT. I do remember Delanie walker fumbling the ball on the 12 yard line this year against the Saints. I do remember Baas hiking the ball out of the end zone. I remember Nate Clements and Tarrell Brown jumping routes on double moves of seahawks receivers. I remember I believe it was williams dropping a punt on the 10 yard line. Why is all this all Alex’s is fault. It is hard for a good Qb to win always playing from behind, not to mention a young average Qb. We are a power running team that has not got the job done and put our Quarterback in bad situations. When we are plus in the turnover department and get our young offensive line to keep down the mental lapses(false starts and other stupid penalties) you will see what kind of team we have.

I don’t think merriman is the answer. He is hurt all the time plus he has lost a step. Bench the shutdown corner his words clements., tell manusky you can’t play corners 10 yards off line of scrimage on 3rd and long

Who is the #2 in the NFL in TOTAL YARDS FROM SCRIMMAGE behind Arian Foster????

That’s right faithful… its FRANK GORE.

So stop blaming him for those two fumbles vs philly because as far as I’m concerned, GORE is doing his job with a mediocre offensive line and an underachieving QB. Period.

  174. By ChickenFriedRice on Oct 15, 2010 | Reply

    Coach Singletary,

I have just one request. Please allow Alex to call his own plays and just let him play football. Loosen the reigns a bit and give him the freedom he needs so he can utilize his strengths to the fullest.

That’s all I ask so that hopefully we can run off 11 straight wins.

    Thank you.

Alex Smith has already wasted a half decade of this teams time and has destroyed several good offensive coordinators. Best Red Zone QB?! He has 10 more INTs then TDs, a feat only done by one other active QB, and he is THIRD STRING!!
Smith is the biggest bust in history and I would currently rather have any other QB in the league, starter or backup.
